uSirius iPhone Application Denied
After weeks of waiting, it was announced today that Nicemac’s uSirius iPhone application has been delayed for the time being. Several things came to mind as I read the latest news updates. It seems to me that if there was a problem with the technology of some sort, Apple would have denied the application outright. With age comes wisdom, and I am getting that feeling of deja vu. The delay that was mentioned in the press release reeks of attorney wranglings.
“As fans, we are committed to continuing to work with all parties involved as necessary in any capacity required to see this product to market. It is our goal, as it has always been, to release this application at as low of a price point as possible, if not free of charge.”
Years ago, there was a Yahoo message board poster named Tulane Jeff, who went on to create the mother of all Sirius fan websites, SiriusBackstage.com. It wasn’t long until Sirius issued Jeff a court order to cease and desist and the idea created by Jeff stalled. Luckily for all of us, the two sides came to an agreement of some sort, and Sirius Backstage grew to be the biggest Satellite radio fan site on the web.
It would not surprise me to learn that Sirius XM has now decided, after years of doing absolutely nothing with Apple no matter how loud their customers screamed, that they have decided they want in on the application that they did absolutely nothing to help produce. If this is in fact the case, and keep in mind this is purely speculative, I would expect a deal with Sirius XM, Nicemac, and Apple. Sirius has sought a partnership of sorts with Apple for many years and the company may see this new application as its proverbial foot in the door.
Position: Long Sirius XM
While I agree that it appears to be a delay that could be caused by Sirius, it doesn’t seem to make any sense. There are plenty of other apps that run on other devices and OS that stream the feed.
I had thought that this might be related to making a timed announcement and including the app but then why even bother rejecting it “temporarily” now.
Nothing makes sense with Sirius stock or with anything related to the company.
Frustratingly Long Sirius.
Methinks there may be a timed annoucement, only not with Usirius app., but perhaps another.
SOMETHING BIG IS COMING?

This is fucking stupid. This app will DRIVE SUBSCRIPTIONS and the morons at Sirius are apparently holding it up? I have 3 Sirius radios (one at home and one is each of 2 family cars) and I have been checking the Nicemac/Starplayr websites every day s=for the last month waiting to see an announcement.
Everyone wins here. Apple gets revenue with a cut of sales. This is a no brainer for them. Nicemac (uSirius software maker) makes money on downloads. No brainer there. Sirius makes money on new web subscriptions (which they are now charging separately for). So what’s the hold up people? Make it fucking happen!
well for now I guess I will just invest in jaadu and rdp to my desktop to listen…tad clunky…but ya know..as I found out yesterday…it works.
The nice thing is the ability to get the feed without having access to open sky. I’m surprised they haven’t developed a wireless antenna.
I have 2 and wanted this so damn bad.
I have just called them and gave them both my reasons, Covino and Rich in horrid timeslot, and the fact this App has not come out yet.
All I can say is thanks Jay for Cydia. Without it the iphone wouldn’t be half of what it CAN be. Hey Brandon, Cydia has a store now. Ill pay 20 for starplayr. Orb casting isn’t good enough. get r dun
