The All New SiriusXM.com is up and Running
Well it’s about time. Sirius and XM have finally launched a website on their new domain name SiriusXM.com, which they recently acquired on September 3, 2008. As of today it’s still nothing special, just a simple landing page that directs visitors to each of the two services main websites.
It’s good to see the company trying to paint this rosy picture of everything being under one roof but, I find it ironic that in doing so they are still consciously sending visitors to two separate websites. This is not the kind of model they need to be flaunting to potential customers. Sirius XM needs to step it up and remove this line between, the still separate services, as quickly as possible.
[ Thanks Larry ]
Charles thanks for the link. I pointed my browser to it, the page loaded, and then I sat there wondering, “Why did they do that?”
Since the merger why would “the company” set up a Wed landing page that makes visitors decide whether to go this way or that way to get company information?
Hope the website merger doesn’t take as long as the Sirius and XM merger.
It’s a start. But to really even begin to remove the line between the two services, all new radios will have to be interoperable. You have to think about all of those cars with either sirius or xm only the dashboard. The average person will always only have average intelligence.
You have to think about all of those cars with either sirius or xm only IN the dashboard.
Yes, my proofreading skills are average.
can you not just make the lineups the exact same for each service so that it doesnt matter what service you have you still get the same content?
This would be a big step in the right direction to me. I dont think they should be getting rid of channels I think they should be putting all content on both services one consistant with the other. Stop cutting down channels and start adding. This will give the customer more choices and more bang for the buck. Id agree though they need to get the middle wall torn down and start truely working as one company in all aspects.

I posted this to the Yahoo boards yesterday (sorry SiriusBuzz). I will copy the link here so you can find out the rest of the info. They are consolidating things. If you go to the link I have there, there is an error page which gets you into the site. They are working on it, and clearly is showing some consolidation in the links. The format appears to be similar to the XM site.

I think it’s a good idea in the meantime as they merge the websites. I also think they should have an XM link to Sirius website and vica-versa while they work on one website launch.
@Egi
That error page in the post does not get you “into the site”, it simply shows that the site is on the same server as xmradio.com as they are using the same default 404 error.
Any xmradio.com path works with the siriusxm domain: http://www.siriusxm.com/shop/h.....ay2008.xmc
Great, thanks for the update. from what i understand the sats broadcast in different formats. as soon as the new interop radio comes out then more channels and significant ala cart options should be available. does anyone know how many channels were gained with the new lineup? i see using the gained bandwidth to add these features. maybe even on demand???
broadcasting the same on xm and sirius sats is quite literally wasting one half their bandwidth. (because the format/radio difference) basically its using two channels to broadcast the same data.
Another example of division
Question…
What has this company done right since it announced intentions to merge?
Your answer is?
Hope, They cut a whole bunch of costs. As a shareholder I would say that is something done right.
You are right Charles. It is actually hosted at the same location as http://www.xmtestdrive.com
You can see this in the ping results and by visiting
Perhaps the site is a backup for xmradio.com, but I believe it is the working copy for developers to work on consolidating resources.
Yup, its all the same:
I would have pointed all of that out in the original article but, to be honest, I didn’t think anyone would care.
Looks like the XM web team might be getting the nod post merger.
I wasn’t going to be the one to say it Charles. If nothing else, the XM equipment is being used once they consolidate equipment.
Another potential problem with both companies broadcasting identical lineups: Sirius and XM in canada are still two separate companies, and they are governed by Canada, and they have NOT approved a merger and could raise anti-trust issues.
I think the website is the least of our worries
I believe the XM Web Site has better scheduling software than Sirius did, so they might use it.
I think there will still be differences in the channels numbers regardless of how hard they try to merge. For instance, all the XM radios use Channel 0-3 for signal testing and subscription. Sirius has a full channel on #1. I doubt this could be changed no matter what. Because there are different codecs involved, I highly doubt they can make all the channels 100% synchronized under the same channel numbers.
Because of this, I still think there will be two brands of radios. Sirius models and XM models. Any merging of the two items require a lot of work and might take years to complete, especially since they need to keep older radios functioning.
Eventually I see them using the dual-band radios to get extra content. Quite frankly, there’s no way Sirius and XM can share all the talk and music content without severe cuts. You can’t have the NBA and NFL on both radios equally, for instance.
It might also be wise for them to keep them as separate brands, because depending on this economy I could see them eventually selling off one unit to remain solvent.
Last I heard a cyber-squatter had grabbed the URL when the merger was announced. I hope they didn’t pay to much for it. Considering the current financial situation it wouldn’t be prudent to pay a lot of money on it
I have both XM and Sirius radios. I have found a HUGE difference in reception coverage, my 80 mile drive to Portland,OR is not usable as it cuts out over 32 times in an hour. Sirius has much better coverage over XM satellites. When will there be better coverage for XM ?? hear XM uses 2 satellites and Sirius uses THREE. Are changes coming ??
