SiriusBuzz Conference Call 9/11 9:00 PM EST
The weekly SiriusBuzz radio Show will not air tonight. With all of my travel in the past few days I neglected to get the radio show scheduled, and now am past the time where I can schedule the show through Blog Talk Radio.
However, all is not lost. I have scheduled a conference call where Sirius Buzz Radio listeners can catch a radio style show followed by some direct “Town Hall Meeting” style discussion. The conference call this evening is limited to 100 participants, so be sure to log in on time.
With the recent conference speech by Mel Karmazin, and the stock under $1.00 there is plenty to talk about.
To participate in the call, simply dial 518-825-1400 and enter PIN #371488. Sirius Buzz Radio will return next Thursday night at our normal 9:00 PM time slot.
Position – Long SIRI
Not cool Zeus. NOT cool.
Oh well…whatcha gonna do?
Guess I’ll catch it next week.
friggin, whats wrong? Don’t have a phone to call in? Or just not available for it tonight? I like these conference calls better anyways.
Tyler, same time tonight as well? 9 pm EST? I will try and make it for at least part, as I am working (again). At least I can usually listen via bluetooth while I pretend to work…
I prefer the regular radio show. I have a cell, but won’t be able to call in tonight. I had planned on listening to the show in repeat tonight.
Hey…are you going to record it and post it on SiriusBuzz? That’d be great.
Since I ain’t gonna get a chance to vent tonight on air…I figured I’d post it here.
WHY hasn’t Sirius come out with an iphone App on Apple’s online App store yet? I know there are the “illegal” ones…but those are cumbersome.
The iphone was MADE for Sirius. And the software code is SO simple. Companies are cranking out programs in a matter of weeks.
Mel SHOULD have had one ready by now.
I only ask because I was wondering if it’s because Apple denied them to be able to put an app in their store? Do you think thats the reason? Mel was alittle TOO dismissive when asked about Apple the other day.
All it is is an application. I don’t know what the big deal is. Sirius doesn’t have to create a “partnership” or anything. It wouldn’t cost them ANYTHING to put an app on itunes. They could give it away for FREE. Current members could use their account to sign in, and NEW members could sign up with the click of a button and choose one of Sirius’s NEW A LA CART memberships.
WHY THE HELL haven’t they come out with an app on itunes yet? It just doesn’t make sense. It would cost them NOTHING.
And would expose them to MILLIONS of potential NEW customers!
Because internet play incurs higher royalties?
I think Sirius needs to crank out a parallel ad-supported product. True, there will be some increase in churn but that would get more than offset by the hundreds of millions of terrestrial radio listeners eager to listen to free ad-supported sirius content.
But online is online. I don’t get that. Lets say YOU sign up for Sirius. You now have an account. You can listen in your car. You can listen on your Stiletto if you have one, AND you can listen to Sirius online.
WHY would it cost Sirius ANYTHING?
If they had an app on itunes….a person downloads the app…if they are a Sirius Sub already, they sign in with their account number as if they were at home on their computer….AND if they are a NEW customer, they simply “CLICK” a button to become a subscriber, and then THEY TOO could listen online using their iphone just like they’d use their computer.
WHY WOULD THAT COST MORE? Once you are a member of Sirius…you immediately have access to listening to it on your computer.
To me this is a NO brainer, and for the life of me, I can’t think of WHY Sirius hasn’t offered an OFFICIAL app on itunes yet.
Pandora and all those other internet radio stations do. If Sirius wants to DOMINATE….Mel has got to be more aggressive.
I already wrote Sirius about this. Hope they listen.
When you listen on line it costs sirius more money in royalties than if you listen over satellite radio.
Sirius makes less from online subscribers, or even when any subscriber listens on line
New members are new members. True, alot of people who are ALREADY Sirius subscribers would use it….but you can’t tell me that Sirius wouldn’t get a HUGE amount of NEW subs thru this as well.
Even a small amount is SOMETHING. But I’d bet it’d be HUGE. And lets face it, in light of the economy, the ugly merger approval and the reaction to Mels speech the other day….EVERY LITTLE BIT WILL HELP.
This along with a total LACK of tv commercials EDUCATING and TURNING on NEW people to what a combined SiriusXM is and how cool it is…BOGGLES MY MIND.
Don’t give WALL STREET only one hat rack(the car OEMS) to hang their hat on. If car sales are down…and Sirius had other things going on like the iphone app and tv exposure…it’d all balance out.
blah blah blah. I’ll shut up. 🙂
Yeah but Tyler I still don’t get it. If there was some guy who was on the fence before about Sirius radio…but then being able to get it on the iphone helped PUSH him over the edge….
So he then takes the plunge. Becomes a member. Puts it in his car and downloads the app on his iphone so he can listen when in class or walking….
HOW IS THAT a bad thing? He’s a paying subscriber aint he?
Exposure is exposure isn’t it?
If people look at Pandora(and yes that is a MAJOR Sirius competitor) they say…cool…I can get it on my computer at home, my iphone while walking around, and pretty soon in my car thru the internet, I’ll just go with them.
This is how people think. Sirius needs to have a presence in ALL THE AREAS that their competition is. And to Mel ignores the iphone at his peril.
You think Pandora and Slacker aren’t trying to get into cars to compete with Sirius? Soon as internet radio in cars is feasible…they’re in there baby.
I just don’t get this BLAISE and dismissive attitude from you and Mel towards providing a Sirius iphone app.
Can’t you see how very important it is?
I’m broke. Is there a toll free number?
Sirius needs BRAND recognition. They NEED to advertise. They NEED to be seen as the COOL…MUST HAVE THING.
And right now the iphone is the COOL MUST HAVE HARDWARE.
For Sirius not to take that SERIOUSLY….is VERY FOOLISH.
They NEED to Make radio COOL again. Sirius has a HUGE advantage over the likes of Pandora and Slacker. LIVE EVENTS.
They NEED commercials on tv with people’s favorite music personalities promoting Sirius.
Sirius sponsored concerts. They could air them live with video too.
The potential is there. EVERYONE knows it….but like the Meryll Lynch analyst said today…its about SHOWING ME now.
So thats why just talking about guidance ain’t gonna cut it. Or waiting for earnings next year. Or refinancing the debt. All very important. But there are SO many things that can be DONE right NOW that could help make Sirius’s POTENTIAL more TANGIBLE and REAL in the eyes of WALL STREET and to MILLIONS of potential subscribers.
I’m not angry. Just a passionate investor and Sat Radio lover who SEES so many missed opportunities. And when I do…I HAVE TO POINT THEM OUT. 🙂
A guy at Radio Shack today told me that Sirius is coming out with a new touch screen device and a Stiletto with more memory. Not sure if they are the same device. Claims it was in new info documents given to sales staff in prep for Oct 6th. Hope it’s true.
I agree with all of Friggin’s points. There is a way to make the costs work to pay the royalties.
I was talking to an XM subscriber today. He’s got XM in two cars. He did not know about the “best of” programs coming available. He was really excited about adding NASCAR, NFL and Stern. He said that every subscriber would jump on that deal for $4 more. (He didn’t care about Martha Stewart, though.)
If anyone needed further proof of the URGENCY that Sirius should be in to get a program on the iphone….look at this from Orbitcast about the competition:

Tyler and brandon, great job tonight. You guys really eased my mind about the BK issue. I am glad it was beaten to death because I needed it.. I hope one you do a write up on the call for the rest of your readers
Just wanted to say thanks to both Tyler and Brandon, it was such a stress release to be able to talk about the stock and gain some insight regarding the direction of the company. Please keep up the good work. Matt
was it recorded for those who missed out?
3 channels have now advertised for the new ipods and the touch on Sirius. Crazy. Why the hell are they having a full segment about how awesome the apple ipods and touch are on the Playboy channel. I am sitting here laughing that Sirius is advertising for Apple.
Tyler and Brandon-
Great call last night. I was impressed by three things:
1. That you made alternate arrangements when internet call didn’t happen.
2. The focus of the call was dealing with only the important issues.
3. People who were on the call were respectfull – very respectful – of each other. I had expected a lot of people jockeying to get their voices heard and their questions answered. We sure have a great group of people here, intelligent and for the most part respectfull of each other.
Keep up the good work everyone!
People are funny. We don’t feel nearly as anonymous speaking (as anonymous) strangers on the telephone as we do typing profanities (or being rude) to each other on the internet tubes. No surprise that all were generally respectful. Were there any female investors who called in? It seems that there aren’t any females here, though there could be.
horsecork-
Good points. There was one woman who asked a question. By the bleeps that were on the phone it seems a lot of people were on the call, but amazingly respectfull considering how much we are all biting our nails with this stock!
Is the selling pressure done for the time being, more demand for the stock coming back in coming weeks leading to Oct 6th laynch of Best of and Ala Cart ?
See the BetaNews.com article, “Sirius CEO Karmazin looks to 2010 for handling 2009 debt,” which was published last night. Good insights in it from Mel, and quotes from our own Brandon. It helped me better understand the three debt hurdles in 2009–and further reinforced my decision to go way long.
