Rotten Tomatoes Radio Launches On Sirius XM
Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) and Rotten Tomatoes have announced the launch of Rotten Tomatoes™ Radio, an exclusive, live, weekly one-hour call-in show featuring Rotten Tomatoes’ editorial staff bringing listeners the latest in movie reviews on upcoming releases, including big budget blockbusters, independent and underground cult films plus DVD and VOD reviews. Rotten Tomatoes has been a very popular service enjoyed and used by millions. It has a particularly large presence on the web and in mobile devices.
Rotten Tomatoes Radio will be hosted by Matt Atchity, Editor-in-Chief of Rotten Tomatoes. The show will air live each week and include will also previews and recaps of new movie releases.
Various Sirius XM channels will feature the Tomatometer™, Rotten Tomatoes’ own movie rating system. Sirius XM listeners will also get the latest box office news, reviews and interviews about movies and the film industry, plus special editions of the show broadcast from red carpets and movie industry events.
I often use Rotten Tomatoes personally on my cell phone in my decision process on whether or not to go to a movie. Flixster is among the bigger brands that utilize the service. It has become such a staple for many movie goers and renters for quite some time now. Sirius XM, if they are not careful could get a few rotten tomatoes of their own by over-using the updates on radio.
Rotten Tomatoes Radio will premiere on Thursday, June 7 at 6:00 pm and air weekly on Thursdays at 6:00 pm, with encore broadcasts airing Fridays at 6:00 am and 7:00 pm, and Saturdays at 8:00 am and 4:00 pm (all times ET) on Sirius XM Stars Too, channel 104.
For Sirius XM I see this as a positive development in that the company is aligning themselves with the types of on line content people want. The relationship could expand even further in the future and perhaps one day even do some cross promotion on websites. I wont hold my breath on that one though.
