Rosie O’Donnell Leaving Sirius XM for Television Return
The issue has not received a lot of press, but Rosie Radio will soon be history on Sirius XM Radio. Rumors of a possible show on Sirius XM began to swirl shortly after O’Donnell made an appearance on the Howard Stern Show in the Spring of 2009. By Fall of that year Rosie Radio became an official show on Sirius XM’s airwaves.
Over the next 18 months months the show gathered a loyal following and was a popular addition to an already robust satellite radio line-up. Sadly for her fans, Rosie will be vacating the Sirius XM airwaves this June in favor of a new television career with Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network.
When people think of Sirius XM they tend to bring up the huge content advantages that the company offers. Such a massive library of music, news, sports, and talk have allowed Sirius XM to proudly live up the slogan “The Best Radio On Radio”. Will the news of a Rosie O’Donnell departure shake things up? Most likely not. Her fans will certainly tune into Rosie’s new television show, but they will also find new compelling content on Sirius XM as well.
If you are a Rosie fan you still have a couple of months to catch her shows and explore the dial. No announcement has been made regarding what will fill Rosie’s slot on Sirius XM’s talk and entertainment channels.
Position – Long Sirius XM Radio
Rosie is not all that sine qua non to Sirius’ bottom line. Howard is the only one that may shake up things.
I think it is a win for both Sirius XM and Rosie O’Donnell. In my opinion, The Rosie O’Donnell Sirius XM radio show really didn’t have the following they said it had. She’s more of a t.v. personality anyway. This will leave an open spot to fill for someone who will have more success bringing in way better content. Remember, some marriages don’t work out.
Rosie who?
This makes me feel so much better about my recent renewal. I’m hoping for a better replacement, which shouldn’t be hard to find at all.
I got Sirius for one reason – Rosie – and in two months will be canceling my subscription and following her to TV.
Nothing else on Sirius interests me.
Please tell me it isn’t so!!! My kids and I LOVE Rosie radio. I tune in everyday, and enjoy her show so much. It is entertaining, funny, and you feel like you are just sitting around hanging with old friends. With my work,I am in my car far more than I am in front of a TV. Just PROMISE you will not give anymore time to that pompous DR Laura. I always have to turn the dial to someone else when she is on. Fill it with Broadminded. The next best thing!
