Paul McCartney Takes Over The Bridge on Sirius XM
Today Sirius XM announced that it will launch yet another niche limited-run channel and this time it will be devoted to the music of Paul McCartney, in celebration of his new album recorded under his alter ego, “The Fireman.”
Paul McCartney’s Fireman Radio is set to premiere on Feb.14 and will air through Mar.13 on The Bridge, Sirius ch. 33 and XM ch. 27. The channel will feature a rare in-depth and revealing interview were Paul McCartney, the legendary artist, will share his inspiration behind his secret Fireman projects. He will speak candidly and openly about every track and will shed new light on this acclaimed music project, which for years has been shrouded in secrecy.
In addition, subscribers will be treated to weekly fireside chats where McCartney will discuss music, politics, news and any other topic he feels compelled to discuss. You can’t get that kind of programming on regular radio! More information and a few in-studio video interviews can be found at sirius.com/fireman.
This just is one of many reasons to say that Sirius Xm is not only the best kept secret in entertaiment but also the best buy for the buck in entertainment.
Neal Barkett,
Exactly!

So whats going to happen to E Street Radio???
I have already seen this press release hit several Beatles websites. I think this is an example of a niche channel that could really add some subscribers. I already like to listen to Breakfast with the Beatles on the Underground Garage so I will give this channel a try. It would also be nice if they played some of Howard’s recent interview with him on there. It might help people see that Howard is way more than just strippers, porn stars, and drunk dwarfs.
nsxdan,
You are right – most people are blind to the fact that Stern actually has certain unique abilities. He not only has an amazing sense of humor, but he is one of the finest interviewers in all of media. He makes Leno and Letterman – especially Leno – look like absolute HACKS ! When Leno interviews someone – if you can even call it that; he can’t even complete a sentence – you end up learning nothing about the guest.
Satellite radio could still be in a class of its own – if only management would apply some of the great suggestions from sites like this one.
Ok, I like Paul McCartney as much as the next person, but COME ON!! I am SO sick of “The Bridge” being hijacked for months at a time for “all one band, all the time” projects. First we lost it for “all Led Zepplin all the time” and now Paul McCartney! “The Bridge” is one of the BEST stations SIRIUS has. Please use another channel for once!!
I agree with Jessica. Please pre-empt a station other than the Bridge for one-artist formats. If this continues, I’m going to seriously consider cancelling Sirius.
I listened to the Fireman show this morning, It’s garbage. Bring back The Bridge and stop scewing around with this format.
The Bridge was one of my most favorite stations! I am NOT happy! Why couldn’t they pick another station???
I agree with Charlie. Bring back the Bridge.
I love Sir Paul, but c’mon! I want The Bridge in its ORIGINAL format.
I absolutely agree. We feed our 130+ employees satelite music and The Bridge is a perfect music mix. Give Paul and the boys their own station and bring back The Bridge!!!
Bring back the bridge and dedicate another channel to one artist format. Granted, paul mccartney is a huge talent, but a months worth–c’mon
Paul Mccarthy needs to retire. Ive been listening to him all week on Bridge and it sucks!!!!!Ive missed my music on Bridge.
Fireman radio sucks. Bring back the Bridge.
We miss the Bridge too. It is our favorite channel. Please bring it back soon!
Bridge is the reason why I paid for 18 months of Sirius. First you ruined it with E Street and now you’ve ruined it with Paul McCartney. A little of either one is fine but nothing but drives me nuts. BRING BACK BRIDGE as it used to be and please quit messing with a good thing. It has caused me to re-think whether I will renew my subscription in April. If you must dedicate one channel to one artist, don’t use Bridge as your whipping boy.
I got Sirius mainly for Disorder. Since they dumped that I listened to Buffett for it’s variety. A few weeks ago I sampled the Bridge (by accident) and thought that was a good fit for me. Today I tuned in and wondered why it was non-stop McCartney. This website enlightened me. I like Mccartney but 30-60 minutes is enough. My wife and I decided we had enough after an hour. Bring back Bridge – and Sirius Disorder.
Please bring back the Bridge and quit messing with it. !!!!!!! You can only listen to so much of the same thing!
I like Paul, but give him 1-2 hrs per day on the bridge…maybe 7pm-9pm…then bridgness as usual! 24/7 of the Fireman makes me feel like I’m gettin’ hosed.
I agree with everyone who is sick and tired of the Bridge being used for one artist. Keep the bridge and find another station for the flavor of the month, The bridge is the best station on sirius.
I am originally an XM subscriber and was thrilled to discover The Bridge in the new lineup after the merger, and then suddenly it’s All Paul. We like McCartney, but infinitely prefer the variety of The Bridge. So will it be back after March 13?
This WAS my favorite channel on Sirius. Please bring back The Bridge. I listen to it all day in work. I like Paul McCartney but in small doses.
Quit ruining all the good channels. First you merge with XM and you kill the good grunge channel- I have since forgotten the name, and now the Bridge is all Paul McCartney. Seriously? How much is he paying you for this? Sirius, get a clue before you lose a listener.
Sirius… PLEASE bring back the Bridge. It’s your best station and you seem to think it is expendable. Why don’t you create a channel that is dedicated to showcasing artists?
The Bridge was the greatest! I am very saddened that it was taken away. I love Paul McCartney but not 24/7. Bring back the Bridge.
I completely agree. What an excellent idea… dedicate a channel for spotlighting a particular artist. There are many bands and artists that I enjoy listening to, but I doubt that I’d enjoy any of them 24-7! The Bridge is such a great channel, playing the music that so many people relate to, playing artists like Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor, Carol King, Al Stewart, and so many others. PLEASE BRING IT BACK, WON’T YOU?
12-20-10 How long is Paul McC going to have exclusive use of the Bridge! I love Paul and Elton but what makes you think that we like to listen to the same artist 24/7? I agree with Sharon, dedicate a channel to showcasing artists…I have not listened to the Bridge since this started.
please bring back the bridge… best channel prior to ALL mccartney!
I subscribed to satellite radio to hear a VARIETY of artists. If I wanted to listen to the same artist ad nauseum, I could have done that with a CD changer. Bring back the Bridge and if you have to devote a channel to the same artist, create a channel but don’t take away my reason for subscribing or you’ll lose me as a customer.
Has anybody noticed that the above promo is dated Feb.6,2009? Is this just a typo or are we getting upset over nothing except that Paul has taken over our favorite station for god knows how long? Come on Sirius give us some answers!
Please bring back the Bridge….How long can a person listen to one artist…The Bridge is the best station on XM….Please……..I too am very sad. Maybe dedicate a channel to showcasing artist.
I totally agree, people!
Bring back the Bridge!
It is THE REASON that I subscribed, if it doesn’t come back solely, I will not be renewing!
