Legends, Lies, and a Tendency To Exaggerate
As sad as it is, I am once again put into the position of getting the truth out there. There are some people in this world that lie and exaggerate so much that they ultimately believe their own lies. Once that happens they can become very convincing to other people. The reason is simple. They sound believable and are able to do so because after months and years of lies they have gotten to a point where they believe a different version of reality.
Brandon claims that he started Satwaves as a one stop shop for Sirius news and information and that the site was getting over 50,000 hits a day.
This is a bold faced lie and gross exaggeration. The name Satwaves was MY IDEA. It was not even created until after Brandon came aboard at SiriusBuzz. I have the email to prove it. Satellite radio sites were not getting 50,000 hits a day. Orbitcast was the top of the heap in those days and it was getting about 15,000 to 20,000 hits a day. Brandon had started another site called sirius news and rumors, which he just launched. Contrary to his claim that he was sending a ton of traffic, it was more a case of consolidating sites to make a better product. In fact, I have emails from him citing that the site was getting 50,000 hits a month… not per day. Before Brandon offers up a comment such that this email image is photoshopped, I will forward the email to anyone that wants it. Simply send your email request to [email protected].
We approached Brandon with a concept of a couple of sites under one flag. I suggested the name Satwaves to him on August 12th, and within a week he had registered the name. The idea was a partnership of sorts. Investors geared news would be on SiriusBuzz, and rumors, programming and hardware news would be on Satwaves. If the partnership did not work, I would keep satellite Standard, SiriusBuzz would remain with Charles, and Brandon would get Satwaves. The concept of a subscription based service was also my idea.
In an email on July 30th I wrote (just prior to coming up with the Satwaves name idea):
“I spoke to a fund manager today, and after our discussion, I broached this concept with him. I had quoted the $60 figure. He said:
“Sirius Buzz is the only viable source where professionals can get good information on satellite radio. For professions to only have information from sporadic analyst reports, and quarterly calls simply does not offer the level of detail needed. $60 per month is a lot lower than they pay for other research, and many virtually have to trade SDARS because of the sector their fund is in.”I told him the $60 was per year, not month. He said that information such as we are proposing is more valuable than even $60 per month, but we need to weigh quantity vs. quality. That being said, I am now thinking an introductory rate of $120 per year, see the demand, and adjust from there. Thoughts?Below is the conceptSiriusBuzz is proud to introduce SiriusBuzz Premium. There was a point where it was Brandon that disappeared for months. In the movie Stock Shock Brandon claimed that he had to move his family because he was receiving threats due to his coverage of SiriusXM. Another lie. Brandon had to move because he was renting a house. The owner of the house sold the property and his family had to move. His wife and kids moved in with his wife’s family and Brandon to the plumbing shop of a family member. Times were tough for Brandon, and even though he was not contributing to SiriusBuzz or Satwaves for MONTHS, nor communicating with us, we sent him regular 1/3 payments of revenue.
In the beginning of 2009 Brando came back. He quickly got into a situation where SiriusBuzz was threatened with a lawsuit. He was making libelous and slanderous claims against Michael Hartlieb. On the third such occasion Hartlieb called me and stated that he was getting ready to serve the site with legal papers because of the libelous and slanderous comments made by Brandon. I contacted Brandon and told him that he needed to chill out or we were going to get sued. His response was, “let him sue, I do not have anything”. The problem, and I explained it to Brandon, was that I did have assets, and while he may not care about a lawsuit because he had nothing to lose, I cared deeply as I had substantial things to lose.
At this point Brandon went crazy and continued his posts about Hartlieb despite the fact that we had a cease and desist notification and Brandon’s actions were now in direct conflict with the notification. We had no choice but to cut Brandon off from continuing to dig the site into a hole and negotiate with him about a separation.
We decided that Brandon would keep the Satwaves name as a separate entity from SiriusBuzz. Unfortunately Brandon spent the next weeks using SiriusBuzz messaging system to recruit members of our forums by stating lies and slamming SiriusBuzz. He convinced posters in forums and our moderator to become his and Rick’s partner in the new Satwaves. He lured them with promises that the site would make about $20,000 per month. They joined him and Brandon continued, up to this day, to spend time saying lies about me and about SiriusBuzz to anyone that would listen. I have had scores of people that eventually were intelligent enough to see Brandon’s games confide in me the active campaign against myself and others Brandon keeps going in chat rooms and forums. If you lie enough you believe it. If you believe it you can spread the cancer to others that are unsuspecting.
There is an extreme tendency to lie, exaggerate, and stretch the truth. Think about it. “Thousands of members”. Do the math. Look at the numbers. Why is it that Brandon can not simply go on and simply run his business? His GoDaddy web hosting costs him about $10 per month. It is not rocket science. It does not take 18 hours per day. This guy does not add up. Personally, I do not care who pays him money. I understand that people read every site. What I do care about is that he seems to continue to want to lie about this site, the historic facts, and me. It puts me in this position.
Satwaves Pro, contrary to what has been fed to people is not bankrupt. The business that ran Satwaves Pro is still in existence in the sate of Florida. In fact, I imagine that the money he has most recently got people to send him rests in that account. If Brandon insists on continuing to spread lies and misinformation about me than I will have no choice but to take legal action against that business that still is in operation. A business does not die just because you say it dies. It dies when you file legal bankruptcy.
Grow up, run your own business and let the past be the past. Stop the lies. Stop the begging. Stop the games. If anyone doubts the accuracy of what I have said, I will forward emails to you. Emails can not be faked and a forwarded email is not anything I can mess with. If you like Brandon, that is awesome. I will NEVER trust anything he does or says again. I got BURNED in a big way and continue to get BURNED today. The lies, exaggerations, and outright misrepresentation of his record speak loudly.
For YEARS I have tried to let these things simply pass with the belief that it is the best way to handle the situation. I have corrected the record a few times, and revealed part of the story at times. I have always tried to keep to a higher road even when cheap shot after cheap shot came my way. Now, for those very few that may be interested, I will outline the whole situation if required. I have had enough of Brandon lying about me and this site to forward his crooked agenda.
A legend in his own mind was born… NOTHING else.

Brandon seems to spend many hours telling a story that simply is not true. He tries to do it at the expense of me and others. His exaggerations and revisionist history have destroyed what was once a good satellite radio community. You will see a few comments here I am sure. Most that have fallen victem do not go public with it. It is not easy for people to admit they were fooled for so long. I have many private communications that I have received over the years
You would have been better off keeping all of this private just like those private communications you were sent over the years but, I’m sure you know that now.
Spencer, I paid for a Lifetime membership to Satwaves Pro a while back. Sounds like after this weekend, I will no longer have my membership and I’m OK with that. I would much rather be a member at Sirius Buzz anyway, great information without all the drama. Keep up the good work!

The Future….
The whole story is still not out there. I have tried to be the better person and keep things at a level where, if the guy decides to turn a new leaf he can. Typically it works for a while, but he seems to be unable to just move forward. Perhaps one day he will simply do the right thing.

It is bad enough that he adjusts all of the facts concerning his own record….I will not let Brandon matthews define me, the truth in my record, or who I am. He can lie about HIS record all day long and I do not really care. He lies about me and mine, and I will stand up. The high road is the one I try to take, but sometimes I have to get down and sling the mud to defend myself.

I disagree with almost everyone’s reply here. Spencer has a right to defend himself from false accusations, and anyone in his shoes would do the same to protect their credibility. If you’re not interested in reading the article, no one forces you to do so.

Thank you for the words of support. For a few years now I have tried to simply move forward. It seems that others do not have that desire. From being accused of stealing his articles, to his false insinuations in messages to many who have revealed the levels of deceit once they moved away from him, to outright lies about just about everything, it is not only tiresome, but damaging.
At the annual meeting this year I met several people face to face. Many expressed shock that I was not the picture Brandon painted of me. When they asked what happened, I simply stated that Brandon is not someone that I trust, that I would not do business with, and that if they valued his opinion, that was fine with me. I did not go into detail, nor offer up anything additional. I simply wanted to move on to another subject. I have tried the higher road many times. Meanwhile there is a force that has a different agenda taking any opportunity to accuse everyone else with his problems. The truth deserves to be known.
Do you want to know why I offer only one membership option at SiriusBuzz Premium?
1. It is easier for me.
2. The subscription model was ruined by business practices that offer one price one day, one sale the next, memberships on top of memberships, prices that are never going to be offered again only to see a lower price a few weeks later. People need a system they can trust. That is the model I built.
3. There is a 30 day money back guarantee. If someone does not like my service they simply ask for a refund. It is simple and protects myself as well as the consumer.
4. I am committed to delivering services on a monthly basis. My consumers are going to get what they pay for. If at some point I move on from this site, I will live up to and honor commitments and be able to walk away knowing that I have delivered what was promised and not welshed on my end of the deal.
I try my best to run my business in an honorable way, even though it is done at a price point that does not really bring in the revenue that should equate to the time I spend doing this.
The fact of the matter is that it takes an ok computer and a server fee to run a site. The cost side is not big. The time factor is substantial, but not a full time thing. I could make a lot more doing other things, but I choose to do what I do. I do not complain, do not beg for donations, and do not cheapen the value of what I deliver. Not everyone will be a member, I am well aware of that.
400 members at $50 would bring in $20k. The reality is that this subject matter does not bring in that type of membership level. If a site about satellite radio had thousands of paying members, there would never be a need to ask or money, complain about server services, etc. 1000 members at $20 per month is a great revenue stream. If that existed there would never be a reason to complain or get into financial trouble. 20k per month is $240,000 per year. That would present a good income. The fact is that it does not exist in a SDARS website…..never has…..never will. People that Follow satellite radio no longer trust the model because the stories do not add up.
Perhaps I will write a tell all one day and offer it for sale for those that want to see the ins and outs of what happened and the dirty side of this business that brings havoc to it. Until a certain person came along there was a respect among sites. Those days are long gone because of one person. Many have seen the light… some have not and never will unless the stark reality is presented to them in an undeniable fashion. I have the stark reality, but believe that the good in people will one day win out and they can turn a new leaf. I would rather leave all of this in the past, continue my business, and have others do the same. It seems that it my not be able to happen.
You are a reasonably intelligent guy. What I find amazing is that as a reasonably intelligent guy you don’t see why this kind of article is a terrible business decision on a number of levels. Sad.

To cancel simply log into your Paypal account and cancel your membership. The cancellation happens on your end, as we leave you in control of how long your membership lasts (as it should be). I do not want to assume anything, so please let me know via email if you want the cancellation immediately or if you want it to run through the current 30 day cycle you are signed up for. Thank you or the comment. I would like nothing more, and while it seems easy, to move on, it is not always the case. This piece frustrated me in publishing it because I knew that it would not be popular. The higher road is the more difficult one to navigate. for every 100 things said about me that are lies, inaccurate, or misleading, I respond to one.
You are correct that there is a reflection on the community as a a whole. I try to be the best example I can be.
I have already cancelled the reoccurring payment with PayPal. If I have paid through December 3, then so be it. My intentions are clear…I do not want to pay for a service that I can get from a local sorority party.

I have tried to be very professional. Both in the manner the site is run, as well as my interactions with you on this thread. I sent you a professional email trying to honor your request, and in lieu of responding to that you posted here in this comment section. I am trying to behave professionally, in this very situation and even this small issue is coming off as childish because of how you are airing and handling it, that is quite interesting. You requested your cancellation in a public manner. That is not what I would do, but you certainly have that prerogative. I took the matter private in an email to you. You did not respond to that and again wanted to air your cancellation in the public forum. I responded here as professionally as possible, offering you the options, apologizing that the site is not meeting your expectations, and even wishing you sincere success and a happy holiday season. If you feel that the site is meeting the criteria you seek, you are welcomed back at any time. It is clear that I can not read your mind to design the site around what you want. The direction of the site is coverage of the audio entertainment sector, investing, news, and analysis. I can not, and will not, totally tie my own hands regarding the slanderous. libelous, and cheating activities of someone that makes it a point to denigrate me whenever possible. Sending a personal email is never an issue. A business sending emails can be. All I wanted to do was identify his desires with regard to his cancellation and honor them. It was what I asked in my email to him.

I can appreciate your opinion. You have made your opinion known, as well as your decision to discontinue association with SiriusBuzz. I can understand that. What I do not understand now is why, after making your decision, you are continuing on with this thread.
I sent you a professional email in private with regard to your membership options. You did not respond to it, but instead posted your reply here. Okay….that is fine….your membership was cancelled by you. You have requested that I contact you when I run the site in a manner that meets your expectations. I expressed that I can not run a site designed to specific people, and that if you see or feel that membership is a value to you, then you are always welcomed back. There have been well over 300 SiriusBuzz premium posts….you take exception to one. Your disdain for the one post outweighs the value of the other postings. That is fine….obviously the premium side of this site carries little value to you. I understand, as it is not for everyone.
I have tried to satisfy your desires, but obviously am not capable of meeting your requirements. That is okay. We can both go our own ways with no hard feelings.

Not interested in E-mails. I knew a pathological lair once who believed everything he was spewing. The more he repeated the lies the more he believed them himself. He was pretty good at it. I was wondering why the thread was on tinting. I think that I did everything I could in a respectful manner to accommodate the desires of Chris. I was kind, considerate, and bent over backwards to be professional about the entire situation. To this moment I am still unsure of whether he desires any email updates through December 3rd. I do not know what else I could have done. In business it is sometimes hard to do the right thing even when I attempt to take all of the right steps.
The site will go on, as will SiriusBuzz Premium. I am at ease because I feel that I took every step I could to make the cancellation as easy as possible

1. I did move it to a private conversation. He did not respond to my email request, and instead kept here. That was his choice.
2. As of this writing he has still not answered specific questions as to his edits with regard to whether he wanted immediate cancellation or he wanted to run out his term. In the classic sense, it s not a big deal, but if he does not want email communications from the site, and wants immediate cancellation, then I am obligated to honor his request and not spam him. At this point, any article I write may be spam to him because he has expressed a desire to cancel
1. You replying when he said no response needed was YOUR choice.
2. Sending a customer an email is not spam, especially when that customer explicitly welcomed further contact. Spam is unsolicited and commercial in nature. An email to Chris would be neither. You should read up on laws regarding spam. If you sent Chris an email after he opted out of email communications trying to sell him something, that would be spam.
As for email alerts because of your published articles, he opted in for those so, they also cannot be considered spam.

The gentleman requested cancellation. I tried to handle it in a professional manner and even took the matter off line in an email.
We can debate spam as well, but in the end it will again accomplish nothing. My desire was simply to understand and honor his wishes.

I’m sorry that you think having an understanding for your clear misunderstanding “will again accomplish nothing.” Personally, I’m a fan of knowledge so when people try to educate me on something I don’t understand, I listen.
Again, no laws against sending emails. Especially when a party is consenting to said emails.

Let me clear up a quick misunderstanding that likely isn’t helping this situation. The main website email address goes to me for general support inquiries, this is why you received a reply from me. When I read your email, I did forward it off to Spencer as an FYI but, there may have been a lapse in time from when I read/replied and Spencer ultimately received the email.
We have heard you loud and clear and appreciate your feedback. Sorry for the confusion.
