spanyo – you may be right but you might want to watch what you wish for. If they get the yes vote on the RS they can pull the trigger at any moment they so choose. That would turn your “bargain” into a “blood bath”.
Agreed Straight. Unfortunately great reward would mean great risk here. I believe that they would use it only as a last resort or if they actually had a profit coming. Then mutual funds might actually want to start buying in.
But of course I could be very wrong. I want to buy more before this Q3 in hopes of a surprise, but I also hoped for a surprise at the merger and after Labor Day.
I can’t buy on anymore rumors. I think I need to buy on really bad news, in hopes that things finally can’t get worse. I know they could, but SIRI’s luck might actually change… someday.
Hey friggin the Republicans didn’t link obama to wright or ayers. He did and he hasn’t been man enough to explain it.
Typical friggin liberal democrat.
LIE & DENY – LIE & DENY
NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
J56D – YEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWW. Round ’em up!
spanyo – yeah, risk/reward. The only thing that sucks is pissing away yours (mine) last couple grand on a gamble. I’ve done that in Vegas a few times and wished I would’ve walked with something left. Oh well. We’ll see how it goes.
SPANYO…
Mutual funds have so many more bargains now with best of class in stock names.
I am sure we are on the bottom of their list if even on a the list.
They dont want 1.00 stocks when they can buy low MS APPL and other high price stock that are on their bottom of pps.
Man enough to explain it? MAN ENOUGH TO EXPLAIN IT???
After the RELENTLESS smear and fear campaign by the likes of Hannity on TV, Rush on Radio and the Republican machine played the Wright clips OVER and OVER and OVER again…forgetting the FACT that Obama wasn’t even THERE for that sermon….
Obama came out and gave perhaps the most eloquent and INTELLIGENT speech on race relations you’ll likely to hear in modern times.
I don’t know how old YOU are, but this was my generations version of Martin Luther King.
Obama didn’t try to spin, or package his response in a quick surface sound bite.
Oh no. He TALKED to America and not down to them. He talked openly and honestly about race.
And when Wright(who comes from a different generation and is filled with rage) said more hurtful things…Obama denounced him.
Obama IS NOT Wright.
The issue died. Because the American public was sick of the distraction and feeble attempt by the Republicans to beat a dead horse.
Then they tried to do the same thing with Ayers. Totally glossing over the fact that Obama was 8 years old when Ayers did what he did. Forgetting to METNION the FACT that Obama worked in a group of MANY individuals when he met Ayers which INCLUDED many top ranking Republicans.
No. They(with the help of Fox) just said those “key” words over and over and over. TERRORIST. OBAMA. AYERS.
It’s all bullshit. Any intelligent person can see.
But what do you expect from Fox. Where a “newscaster” actually queried wether the Obama “fist bump” was ACTUALLY a TERRORIST HAND SIGNAL!!!!
You can’t make this shit up.
If ONLY the Dems played as dirty. The only difference would be that the Dems wouldn’t have to MAKE SHIT UP. They could have gone after Bush relentlessly for the crimes hes committed.
So go on chanting your “NOBAMA” mantra.
It’ll do you NO good. Obama WILL win. And he will win HUGE. The people are tired. Tired of the same old crap and Republican lies.
I find it so funny that aside from their rich oil buddies, the vast majority of their supporters are angry poor white trash too stupid to realize that they SHOULD be angry with BUSH and the republicans. But being so angry, they’ve been duped into blaming BLACKS, the Dems and anyone else BUT the Republicans for their ills.
The Republicans have effectively used FEAR and ANGER to exploit them and direct that anger away from Bush. These people confuse American patriotism with the Bush war machine. The Republicans have fixed it where ANYTHING Republican means good…and anything Democrat means terrorist.
Alot of people were swept up in the post 9/11 horror. But now they realize that Bush exploited that tragedy for his own agenda.
He TOTALLY and completely abandoned the pursuit of Osama Bin Laden…and directed the countries anger onto Iraq. Even going so far as to say “OSAMA WHO? I DON’T GIVE HIM MUCH THOUGHT!” when asked by a reporter if he had given up looking for him.
There is so much to be angry at the Bush administration and the Republican party for.
And most of America has woken up to that.
Except for some lone brainwashed idiots. 🙂
When Sirius is on the verge of profitability mutual funds will be very interested. If the company got to $1 a share based on fundamentals then a reverse split to get it above $5 would not be such a bad thing. It would mean some interested funds could buy which would drive up the price more. Google has 314 million shares. A 10 to 1 reverse would bring Sirius to a similar number.
But if Sirius is close to a profit before the end of 2009 we may never see the RS.
Hey friggin,
You sure do like to rant and rave. Here are a few facts for you to check out. Show me the lies in the following.
1. Maybe friggin Obama was not at the church for that diatribe but he was a member of the so called rev wright’s church for over 20 years. Do you really believe that the clip that we have seen so many times was the only time the so called rev wright preached like that.
2. The friggin liberal democrats like to blame George Bush and the Republicans for everything but who has had control of the house and senate. Maybe you ought to blame friggin pelosi and friggin reid because they were the majority leaders.
3. Maybe friggin Obama was eight when Ayers was bombing and killing people but how old was Obama when Ayers was bragging about it after 911.
4. Is the following link friggin Obama or is it a Republican Obama look alike orchestrated by George Bush.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....&NR=1
Anxiously awaiting your rant errrr reply.
It’s time to open your eyes to the truth and not more lies and denials.
Whew. Im glad we didnt start talking politics here. If we did, I dont know how heated this discussion might have gotten…
J56D – Don’t take any offense but I’ll bet you drive truck, weigh over 300 lbs, chew tobackie and own a bunch of guns. You do use good
grammar however so I could be totally off base.
Just kidding. But anyways, to blame the dems for all of this is a little too much considering they’ve only controlled for the last 2 years. The snowball of crap was going to tumble down no matter who was in control based upon things that have been in motion for 2 decades starting with the massive debt we brought on during the Reagan years. Do some studying up.
And by the way, the war wasn’t because of WMD’s. Saddam was moving towards selling oil in Euro’s which would have collapsed the US dollar. Do you think anyone would have approved the war based on this? No. We needed something much more powerful like the B.S. WMD’s.
For the record, I tend to be more of a libertarian and constitutionalist than democrat or republican. That being said, the platforms of the more conservative candidates tend to be the closest to my own thinking in terms of government, liberties, taxes, etc.
Being from a very liberal state such as Massachusetts, I see first hand what happens when one party (regardless of which party) gets too much power. The state government in Massachusetts, being over 90% democrat, is a virtual joke because there is very little balance of power. I am sure the same is the case in states where republicans dominate.
In the end, I would like to see the government have less input on my life. I will vote for candidates that, in theory, align the closest with my beliefs.
I was aand still am fan of Mitt Romney, and had the financial crisis happened during the primaries, Romney would have been a presidential nominee (in my opinion). While he is in the republican party, he gets more towards what I believe this country needs.
I have seen many people come through the office who after getting their taxes done complain about the size of their tax refund. What is amazing is that some of these people did not pay a thin dime in taxes, still get a refund, and then complain. They pay nothing, get money back, feel like they are poor, yet year after year do nothing to change their situation. Who pays the taxes in this country? Look, and you may be surprised (from 2006).
Top 1% – Incomes above $388,806 – 39.89%
Top 5% – Incomes above $153,542 – 60.14%
Top 10% – Incomes above $108,904 – 70.79
Top 25% – Incomes above $64,702 – 86.27%
Top 50% – Incomes above $31,987 – 97.01%
Bottom 50% – Incomes below $31,987 – 2.99%
If you make $64,000 or more, you are helping pay 86% of the tax in the country! How much more is this group supposed to be responsible for?
I will always give Bush 43 credit for two things…
1) Helping to make it possible for Sirius and XM to merge.
2) Helping to end racism… by doing such a lackluster job that droves of people are actually considering voting for a black man for the first time in their lives.
If McCain picked Tina Fey as his running mate I would have actually thought about voting for him.
Hey Getit,
I drive a SUV and not a truck.
170 lbs.
I don’t chew or smoke.
The only gun that I own is a 1851 pistol made by Star Industries that doesn’t fire.
Thanks for the grammar comp.
I live in Connecticut (a very liberal state, I wish that Sarah Palin was our govenor).
I am a Cincinnati Reds fan surrounded by rabid New York Yankee and Boston Red Sox fans.
I am also a Buffalo Bills fan surrounded by rabid New York Giant and New England Patriot fans.
I am a registered Independent.
I have voted for both parties.
I would vote for Colin Powell or Condoleeza Rice in a heartbeat even though Powell came out and supported Obama.
I agree with Tyler about Mitt Romney.
I don’t think that this election would even be close if McCain had picked Romney as his VP.
My Dad and I used to get in loud (to put it nicely) political or whatever arguments at the dinner table. My Mother used to get irate at both of us and at times would even leave the table. She would even get madder at us 10 minutes later when we would be laughing or joking about a completely different subject. Especially since she claimed that we ruined her dinner. How could we kid around after such a heated argument? She finally realized that we both enjoyed the debate and that either one of us could take either side of an argument, just to get the other one going.
My Dad died shortly before 911 and I really miss those arguments, debates or whatever you want to call them.
frigginregan – I hope that you eventually start to see that things aren’t always as cut and dried as the spin doctors make them out to be. I also hope that you are right about Obama should he happen to win.
Tyler it was refreshing to go off topic.
“I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself by the handle.”
Winston Churchill
J56D – Thanks for the insight. One last question – how do you propose we pay for all of the stuff we’ve been so wildly overspending on the last 8 years and more so the last 28 years? The Chinese and others will at some point stop lending to us. Our “credit card” is tapped, over the limit.
And if your answer is we stop spending and leave the poor and middle class behind we are in for some deep pain but maybe that’s what is required anyway. And if that’s the case our concerns over losing 100k in SIRI stock will be the least of our worries.
A good start would be to elect John McCain and Sarah Palin.
I believe that a McCain victory would be the start of more accountability in both government and the private sector. I also hope that this would lead to more personal responsibility which I feel is sadly lacking in our country. No, I am not advocating leaving anybody behind but this country was founded by individual initiative and not by the eternal “what about me”.
I live in the tax & spend – tax & spend state of Connecticut. We have basically taxed businesses, job growth and people out of our state. I must know of 20 people who have retired in the past 5 years. The first thing that they did in retirement was to move out of state. The could not afford to retire in this state. The town I live in thinks that only a 6% budget increase is a cut in spending.
We have a governor who wants to protect us from billboards by having them banned. We have an Attorney General who tried to prevent the merger of XM and Sirius. Maybe in hindsight he was right but not for his reasons. Maybe its time to set some real priorities and not make everything a special interest group wants a priority.
I do not believe that bigger government is the answer. I believe that government should be a fall back in case of both national and personal catastrophes I would like to see a lot less government which I feel would lead to much more opportunity.
hey tyler, i was for romney also.
my vote will go to mc’cain/palin.
i kinda wish it was palin/mc’cain instead !
With all due respect J56D….if you’re sick of Bush, John McCain and Sarah Palin would not be a “good” start. They’d be MORE of the same….or worse.
In all likelyhood, McCain won’t make it thru his first term, and we’d be looking at President Pailn. Can you HONESTLY say you have CONFIDENCE that she’d be able to lead the nation effectively in the world we live in?
As a proud Liberal and independent, I’ve watched a McCain I USED to respect become the very thing he despised. His entire campaign is run by lobbyists. Hes become a shadow of his former self.
And as far as “BIG GOVERNMENT” is concerned….we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in if Bush hadn’t removed so many regulations on Wall Street.
The way McCain tried to turn the economic crisis into a “show” was so transparent. And after all that, he just sat there in the meeting with nothing to say….while Obama laid out a detailed plan after he consulted the likes of Warren Buffett and others.
I just find it ironic that the party who is suppose to be about LESS GOVERNMENT has ended up being the party who is all about telling others what to do and how to live and taking away civil liberties. And talk about OVER SPENDING. Clinton left this country with a record surplus. Bush has left it with record deficits.
I agree with you about Colin Powell. But Condy Rice? Are u serious?
Doesn’t McCain scare you? Cause he sure as shit scares me.
Doesn’t the thought of president Palin actually make you even MORE frightened?
The fact is, he is going to lose, and hes going to lose big. And thats a good thing. 🙂
Can we go back to talking about Sat Radio now? This was fun tho. 🙂
Spanyo…
I would not call a RS an opportunity especially with Sirius stock.
If the stock had no history of being preyed upon as a naked shorts wet dream, had no history of manipolation by hedge funds, and lending institutions such as GS that have alternate motitives, I still would not be in favor of a RS.
A RS indicates a company is mismanaged.
Because Mel made a bad loan decision, he can work his way out of it as far as I am conecerned.
With SiriusXM a reverse split would accomplish a few of things.
As soon as the reverse split was announced the stock price would dive. You are already saw that, and will see it again, if they got approval and tried to implement.
Sirius completes the RS and then issues more shares to pay off loans, a LOT MORE SHARES.The stock price dives again
The shorting begins, the nakes shorting begins, the stock price dives again.
SiriusXM needs to service the debt by reducing costs, re-negotiating content agreements, increasing sales, etc. companies need to work their way out of debt.
Think about this, SiriusXM would reverse split take away shares,—- Then turn around and print more shares. What’s wrong with this picture?
This is good mangement?
No it is not good mangement.
We need to say STOP,and stop diluting share value. No RS
Spanyo, to me an RS is a sign of a complete failure of mangement.
On the bright side.
I do think that we may get the Feb note serviced favorable.
May and Dec also with extended terms we can live with.
If Mel pursues a RS I would join a class action suit.I also think he can work is way out of having to do a RS and he is close to doing that.
I don’t think we will see .25 a share again. We are going up from the start of the 3qtr cc.
imho
vaporgold
Vaporgold….truer words have never been spoken. You’re right on about a RS and what it would do.
It boggles my mind that both Tyler and Brandon have come out in STRONG support of a RS.
Anyone currently holding shares should be against a RS….ESPECIALLY considering Sirius’ track record with the shorts and naked shorting as Vapor points out.
Not only would you be giving up your shares times 50….you’d then LOSE value further as the shorts ripped the new post RS stock price to pieces….WHICH THEY WILL.
ANYONE who believes OTHERWISE is totally deluded.
Mel got us into this mess with the debt deal…HE CAN GET US OUT by cutting costs and growing the company. Simply inflating the price via a 1 for 50 RS at this stage would simply be SMOKE & MIRRORS. The shorts would see right thru it.
And so should we.
It isn’t a fix. Not even a TEMPORARY one. The anger we felt at the FCC and the NAB would pale in comparison to the anger we’d feel as shareholders if Mel did this.
He JOKED about paying off the debt himself. He better start getting Serious about that then….because we’ve already given him ALL our money. He can’t have anymore via a RS.
Vote NO on the RS. Send Mel a VERY CLEAR message that the buck stops here. We voted yes on the merger…and LOOK what good that did us. We gave Mel what he wanted, and he sold us out to close the deal.
He ain’t getting my vote on the RS thats for damn sure. 🙂
I found the following post on the Sirius Yahoo Board. Yes, I know…not the best place for unbiased views. But sometimes it’s good to see what the shorts and bashers are thinking.
The following excerpts are from the post titled
IF A REVERSE SPLIT OCCURS:
It will be the easiest short on the board.
IF????
Look at the numbers. If they are talking about it, they will do it. They need your approval to do it. You are delisted if you don’t. No way the shorts will let this go over a buck again.
If a BK occurs???
SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO INC bonds are trading @ 37.50. (Face value is 100.)
That’s bonds, up the liquidation preference scale.
The bond price is the single biggest indicator of an imminent BK. If creditors had the slightest faith that they would be paid back in full, with interest, the bonds would be trading over 90. Bondholders sell because they can’t endure 2-3 yrs. in BK court until the company is reorganized and they get their distribution.
This thing is toast, IMHO.
I agree.
I think the reason why some of the reason why bondholders have been converting to stock at a loss is so that they can sell the equity on the open market.
They can’t really call the bonds as SIRI does not have the money to pay for them. Calling the bonds might force SIRI into bankruptcy and if they aren’t the senior bondholders, they might get nothing.
You can’t get blood out of a stone.
The bondholders are willing to take a small loss now instead of being hit with a big loss (BK) later.
Friggin..
If I was Mel I would send negoating teams back to every content provider we pay and try to get a reduction. The amount of the reduction would be based on the total amount we needed in the plan along with cost reductions to speed up the time table to get the company profitable.
There has never been a better time to do that then right now. With the economy the way it is right now many would understand. They would not like it, but they would understand.
They would also understand that a 10% to 15%reduction in the amount of money being paid to them by SiriusXM, is better then no money at all if the company went BK.
Three to five years from now they may even be getting more then they are now.
Content providers from Stern to Oprah to NBA to Nascar and all the rest need to work with us for continued growth in the future.
Every company has a Right to a profit, without it they will cease to exist.
SiriusXM has made many of them very very rich, They have to understand that the high fixed operating costs of SiriusXM has to be met if we are going to grow together in the future.
imho
vaporgold
You guys have some great ideas and share some great info.
I do have to admit that the beating I’ve taken in SIRI has left me with one choice if they decide to RS and that is join the dark side and short the living daylights out of the stock to try a recoup my money.
As some others have mentioned it’s the only way to try and get back some money. It’s unfortunate to have to do this to a company I love, but if you can’t beat ’em join ’em. With a reverse split we’re headed to 0 anyways.
Froggen…..
Tyler has come out in STRONG Support of a reverse split?????
I am not a fan of reverse splits at all. I do recognize that there are a few opportunities to do them and pull it off. IMO they could have done it rigth after the merger. The economic times will see several companies doing a reverse split. A good company with strong financials can weather the reverse split storm. IMO SIRI is a good company, but there are a bunch of question marks about the financials.
I would not characterize myself as a supporter of a reverse split. If the stock price is too low, and the company is about to be delisted, I would then be a staunch fan of a reverse split, as there would be no question about whether or not it is needed.
What I have tried to convey in articles I have written is that people look at these issues from many perspectives. I try to identify the negatives and positives, and see which side outweighs the other.
Hi, am new to this board. Enjoy reading posts on this board. I am a SIRI long. Own approx 50K shares at an average of about $2.50. Its been an excrutiating ride so far. Hope the Q3 CC has some positive news. Will not vote in favor of the RS.
We can go to zero just as easy without a reverse split. I think ya’ll are making too big a deal out of it.
Yeah Doobz26 – But wouldn’t it be much more fun with billions more shares outstanding and a higher starting price. We could really make some cash then.
With all due respect Tyler, wether you are a fan of them or not, you’ve said several times recently that you think it’d be for the best. Even AFTER the SEC suspended the delisting rule.
At least this is the impression I got from your articles and on your radio show in the last couple of weeks.
You never ONCE mentioned the FACT that SHOULD a 1 for 50 RS be approved that the shorts would RIP OUR SHARES TO PIECES.
Which is so true. And how anyone who currently holds shares wouldn’t come out STRONGLY against that baffles me.
I totally appreciate your site, and I DO feel you write well about ALL points of view.
It’s just that I haven’t read ANY outrage from you concerning the possibility of a RS and what it would mean to current shareholders.
I am just shocked that your confidence in the company has blinded you to what the shorts will do to us after a RS.
You of all people should know what the shorts have done to this stock. If a reverse split happens before the debt is completely settled or the company has a chance to blow away some Quarters…..current shareholders and longs would be WIPED OUT. I can’t stress this enough. I feel it in my bones. And I’ll be damned if I’m going to roll over and give my shares to the shorts.
It is for this reason alone that on principle alone I’d rather see Sirius get bought out, or go Bankrupt than give the shorts the satisfaction of taking me out.
SERIOUSLY.
This stock has become so divorced from the company itself. If it declared BK the company would survive. The product that we know and love would go on.
I am so strongly against a Reverse Split that I just wish you(Tyler) were more vocal about it too. Thats all.
LOL.
Honestly I only remember Brandon being 100% for RS.
I think that it was put on the agenda to satisfy NASDAQ requirements. However, again MEL refuses to communicate his reasons for it.
That is why until Mel does, I’m holding my specific opinion on RS, until after the conference call.
This company has the most PATHETIC PR I can imagine.
Mel is like listening to reruns of groundhog day. That being said.
I’m going out on a limb and saying that in spite of merger costs etc., etc. Mel may have a decent conference call. It’s a week from Monday. Nov 10.
So……………where do we go from here. It’s all about the conference call right now. If you sit here reading this, Mel is faced with the FEB debt first.
A good CEO would have it solved by Nov 10. No way should we hear again, that the debt issue is “going” to be fixed.
I really think Mel has been cutting costs like crazy these past three months. We’ll see. However, this conference call IS Mel’s first real chance at having the company under his control solely.
Did anyone remember that he did have Sirius cash flow positive as a stand alone.
I saw people out in force this weekend. The gas price going down to 2.69 in my state, has a huge impact on peoples driving.
You wait. People will get those cars going again, and then car sales will turn around and we will see a big boost in this stock.
There are ads on tv again for companies offering low interest financing for purchases. Have you repaired a used car lately? It’s expensive. I bought a used car recently and priced a new radio with Sat radio and it’s not bad.
There is good equipment out there for reasonable prices.
And hey did you notice that when you upgrade to HD radio, that your new radio offers XM or Sirius? It’s true.
It’s true competition. If satellite radio has a future it has to compete with HD for it’s business.
One thing I still think is unresolved is this commercial issue. I agree with Tylers article on commercials, and think that this issue is still unresolved.
Also I believe in Egiscodr’s take that there should be some kind of rewards program.
I get emails from local stations constantly regarding their current point programs.
There is no reason Sirius/XM can’t do the same. It easy and relatively inexpensive.
I heard an ad on local radio where home builder would give you 75,000 pts to your radio rewards program for walking through the models.
Why not here. I guarantee you could farm out the program to a sub contractor who specializes in these programs.
Did you get that Led Zepplin email. This are the kinds of emails they could make much better use of.
Mel, get you head out of you ASS and make something good happen Nov. 10th. Or my sorry ass will be emailing M. Hartleib.
Friggen, you know what, I’ve heard N. Pelosi from my state, whine about the G. Bush politics now for years.
They should shut up and do something. Two stroking it is bullshit.
And after Tuesday when they have control of all branches of government, which is completely insane. I never want to hear another whining politician blame it all on Bush.
Cause that’s what they will still do. I can hear it now. We are still trying to salvage the Bush years. LOL.
In my opinion Dick Cheney is the DARK Side of all that is dark. But hey I”m just some dumpshit, typing on a blog, on a Sunday morning.
Happy November everyone. Let’s hope for a good month to all.
Tyler..Friggin..
We have time before any delisting which was a blessing in our case.
The 3qtr cc will throw some light on where we currently stand.I still think the company is on track.
I still believe the annoucement for a RS and to issue more shares was premature and that statement should not have been requested by the mangement at this time. It was an additional factor in driving down the share price.
I am voting No on any reverse or issue of more shares. Mangement needs to switch from that bail out thinking to operating the company to achieve profit.
GetitStraight…
Short the hell out of the stock after any RS?….But I am a long.
However, I will go short if they RS.
I think you are right on the money and you’re thinking and action will take place on a very very large scale if a reverse split occures. If we join all the hedge funds, shorters, naked shorters, the stock will go down.It will be a feeding frenzy.
The other reasons they will be successful in taking the stock down, is the past history of SiriusXM tells you to do it, the May and Dec notes are still out there, we are not profitable, a huge float, a reverse split, and if they get the RS they will HAVE to issue more shares.
A reverse split does not bring in money, in fact it will drive the stock price down even further making it even more difficult to obtain favorable financing. Then the the May and Dec notes become like the Feb note is now.
So SiriusXM will have to issue more and more and more shares to try and get the money.
What direction will the stock go in under those circumstances and pressure?
Friggin…if they get the RS vote we may need to join Get it Straight and the dark side and short the hell out of SiriusXM until they fold.
We have to be vigilant during the next year to make sure that the RS is not planned to help take the company private. If it is, we need to get a class action suit started a with a high profile law firm.
I am 100% against a RS for the above reasons.
imho
vaporgold
Vapor,
I AM NOT in favor of the RS or dilution. I am not suggesting anyone vote for it. (Just to be clear.) I will not vote for it unless Mel basically says it would only be used as a last resort in December of 2009. I will accept it over BK. I will not bite off my nose to spite my face.
But yes, Mel can get the price above $1 without the RS. (That’s why in the long run it won’t matter if it is approved. I believe it won’t ever need to be enacted.) So if the RS is approved the shorts will eat away. When others are running out of the “burning building” I will buy more shares than I can hold.
When the smoke clears, those with the most faith will either be complete idiots or get bumped into a higher tax bracket. In the latter scenario I will happily spread 5% more of my wealth.
Just planning on turning lemons into lemonade.
By the way, I’ll bet that there are at least a few people who drive trucks, weigh over 300 lbs, chew tobacco and own a bunch of guns who will be voting for Obama.
J56D, you are more proof that first impressions are not always correct. Are you a Stern fan?
And another thing.
Have you noticed the East Coast dominance of this company?
There is a huge customer base just waiting to be marketed to in California.
LA, second biggest city in the U.S.
Howard is an East coast marketing miracle. But in California there are other options.
Here are a few.
1. A large profile Spanish speaking comedian or other appealing segment. George Lopez comes to mind. The Spanish speaking population is huge. They love soccer. Add a Spanish soccer station, and your subs will skyrocket. Think I’m kidding. You need to be around here and see that they love the radio. And Spanish stations are big time on the airwaves.
2. There are many famous black comedians and talk show host, possibilities. No Oprah, is not what I was thinking.
3. The bay area has a huge traffic population. There needs to be programming directed at this market. Same sex programming is a necessity. Think out of the box. There is a huge revenue stream waiting for a product that works towards them.
4. Resigning more sports guys and more of the same white music hosts, is just appealing to the same group. Get moving Mel. Get your head out of your ass and start reinventing this thing.
I think Mel is preserving capital. Advertising is expensive. Mel knows this. Of course you have to spend money to make money. But when you need loans you have to make sure that the foundation is strong and the roof isn’t leaking before you worry about landscaping.
More advertising is coming. When it will give the most bang for the buck. Now is not that time, because the retail buyers are preserving capital too.
After the uncertainty of the election is over I think their will a psychological sigh of relief in the country. Hopefully it will last long enough to get the company jumpstarted.
The “comments” section of this site is officially a joke. This place is worse then the yahoo boards everyone here claims to hate.
With every new article there are comments that are longer then the original article itself and often do not fit in my 21inch monitor without scrolling.
Maybe SiriusBuzz can put a limit on the number of characters per comment? This would at least force users to present their comments in a clear well thought out manner rather then the rambling gibberish we now see daily.
I got dissed once for getting off topic related to an article, and the article above is about the election ….
So:
McCain all the way–moderate forward-thinking and honorable ex-POW who deserves respect for SURVIVING 5.5 YEARS of the worst the North Vietnamese Army could put him through.
Obama no way–liberal with less time in the Senate than McCain had as a prisoner of war.
Obama associates with and attracts the lunatic fringe left and (most alarmingly) the far left in our society. Foreign powers that are sworn enemies desire to see Obama elected to further weaken our nation and country.
Fact, not an attempt to instill fear: Obama’s massive marketing campaign brainwashes the weak and plays into enemy hands.
I have never met John McCain but would be honored to do so because he is among our nations finest.
During my 20-year military service career I got to personally know a number of former POWs including the following three that are in McCain’s league:
*** Nurse 2nd Lt. Hattie Brantlee who was one of the “Angels of Battan.” She suffered through Japanese attrocities on Bataan, on Corregidor Island, and at Santo Thomas “University” in Manila for years. At one point on the Bataan Peninsula before the U.S. and Phillipino defenders (the “Battling Bastards of Bataan”) finally had to surrender and go on the 200-mile “Bataan Death March,” Brantlee came back to her hospital outpost after helping the wounded and dying in the jungle. Upon her return she found that the Japanese had bombed the hospital (used Red Cross symbols on top of tents as targets). She told me about “one sweet boy from the Midwest that had all four limbs blown off.” She said to me, “He said, what’s a sweet girl like you doing in a place like this. You shouldn’t be undergoing these hardships. Can you imagine? He said that to me?” More than 40 years after the end of World War II in the Pacific she received the then new POW Medal at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
*** Army Master Sergeant Martin Frank, captured after his patrolling unit was ambushed in the far north of South Vietnam. Held at the infamous Hanoi Hilton where he, too, was tortured and suffered deprivations for years. He remembers the NVA taking him through the DM–from South Vietnam to North Vietnam. He said that was when he was most afraid because U.S. warplanes bombed the DMZ daily. “The DMZ looked like the Moon because of all the craters,” he said.
*** Army War Photographer Angelo Spinelli, captured at Faid Pass during the scorching Northwest Africa Campaign in the Sahara Desert. He was transported like livestock from Africa to Italy to Nazi Germany, and was transferred through several brutal stalags. Secretly for years and at the daily risk of his life, Spinelli photographed conditons inside the stalags. (See “Secret Camera of Angelo Spinelli” in the Congressional Record.) He watched as another U.S. POW tossed a cigarette over into an adjacent Russian POW compound, and snapped a picture just as a Russian got his head blown off for picking up the smoke.
Brantlee, Frank, Spinelli, McCain and other former POWs are among our nation’s most revered heros because they served with honor and distinction through terrible ordeals and never gave in. They endured conditions that only a rare few of us can even comprehend.
In a great way the President of the United States gets elected based on stength of character. I trust McCain and know that he is by great measure the best candidate to lead during these troubled times.
Long McCain. Short Obama.
Solomi, “change the channel” if you like. Nobody forces you to follow threads on SiriusBuzz.
Friggen….
I have not stated that it would be good. was pointing out aspects of it that can be good. There is a distinct difference.
I feel that if it gets to a point where there is a danger of going to the pink sheets that there is no choice in the matter. I would rather see a reverse split than land on the pink sheets. There is about 8 months before that transpires right now.
My opinion has been very clear. We need to, AT A MINIMUM, see what Q3 and Q4 look like prior to going down a path of support or being against a reverse split.
As long as this equity is under $1.00, the reverse split has to be on the table. If it gets to a point where it is needed, there are deeper troubles investors will want to wortty about.
The problem at hand is that investors are being asked to make their decision on December 18th, and we will not know Q4 numbers yet. Thus it boils down to a question of faith in management, which at this time can be chanllenged.
If a reverse split become a foregone conclusion, I would rather get it done sooner than later.
To be clear, I am not a fan of reverse splits, and encourage people to be fully aware when they are looking at SIRI.
Be that as it may Tyler, I just don’t get a sense from you about how dire it’d be for CURRENT shareholders this reverse split. You NEVER once broached the subject of how shorts would literally WIPE out longs after a reverse split. I don’t know if it’s because you are in denial or truly feel that a reverse split wouldn’t attract shorts like flies.
I think you’re mad cool. I’m not trashing you. It’s just as a long…to ME a RS is the DEATH NELL and more of a threat to longs than BK or the PINK SHEETS.
Like you say, the threat of a RS has been delayed and is 8 months away. SO where is the rallying against the RS??
The vote is only a MONTH and a HALF AWAY for crying out loud.
I’m just REALLY concerned about this thats all….as I think all longs should be.
I guess I just don’t sense the urgency. Knowing all we know as shareholders and WHAT happened with the merger delay. If we had a crystal ball and could have SEEN what was going to happen…we ALL would have sold last year.
SO…when I hear they are considering a 1 for 50 Reverse Split…THAT is LIKE having a DAMN CRYSTAL BALL in my opinion.
We ALL lived thru the shorts COMPLETE annihilation of this stock. We ALL KNOW that they are SALIVATING at the chance for another go…especially before Sirius reports forth quarter earnings or has a chance to refinance the debt.
If this vote goes thru on December 18th….it’ll be a Friggin FEEDING FRENZY. Longs will not only lose 50 times their ORIGINAL shares….their remaining shares will be RIPPED to FRIGGIN PIECES.
Don’t you see that Tyler? I know you aren’t a financial advisor….but don’t you have a responsibility to warn people about this VERY REAL possibility?
Other than that….keep up the great work. 🙂
Salomi,
There is prose for those that choose
And be hosed to those that bemuse
I usually try to avoid the topic of politics or religion in mixed company. Always a combustible topic.
I think the passions of our political views got all mixed up with out frustrations about Sirius….
and Wah-lah!
At least the cartoon wasn’t portraying Muhammed and that this isn’t a Muslim extremist board! Lol.
Then we’d be in some SERIOUS trouble. 🙂
Cheers,
8 more days my friends. 8 more days and we find out some more news.
PM – would you consider that Bush was elected based on your statement that, “the President of the United States gets elected based on stength of character.”
Who judges another person and their “strength of character”?
Someone that calls his wife a c@nt? Someone that has flip flopped on almost everything he recently stood for? Someone who wrecked 3 US planes in the service and a fourth almost being lost due to his admitted “daredevil manuevers” and didn’t get demoted because his father was an admiral in the Navy?
We could go on and on about Obama as well but to say that McCain has better character than Obama is reaching.
Lest you forget McCains beautiful rendition of the Beach Boy’s “Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran”….er….I mean “Barbara Ann”.
Doh!
Theres really no discussion. Obama will be president. Now all you McSame supporters back to your moonshine stills
Funny stuff!!
No one “knows” who will be the best president. People can only give opinions. But we will eventually find out if the person that is elected is a good president.
One thing is for certain, whoever is in there will have one of the most difficult presidential terms relating to the economy in 75+ years. The piper is going to get paid one way or another no matter who is sitting in the oval office.
