Sirius, XM Set Date for Station Merger
By Eliot Van Buskirk November 07, 2008 | 3:25:14 PM

Sirius and XM satellite radio subscribers wondering when the merger of the two companies will start affecting their programming need wonder no more. Sirius XM Radio will shift both services into their new formats on November 12.
The XM Escape channel was the first to announce the date that the new Sirius XM Radio line-up will go into effect, according to Rolling Stone, and a DJ on Sirius' The Pulse channel later confirmed the date.
For some, it's the chance to experience a better selection of high-quality channels (Howard Stern's already on both Sirius and XM, for instance). Others could lose their favorite channels, assuming those channels aren't included in one of the "best of" packages. One example of this is NBA fans with early Sirius radios losing NBA programming after the switch, and the punk channels Sirius Punk and Fungus 53 being replaced by an AC/DC channel.
Other than that, not much is known about Sirius and XM's combined channel line-ups and packages, because neither division of the merged company has released that information. But with only a about a month until the channels change, we shouldn't have to wait much longer to see what the combined line-up will include, and what sort of packages are available to try to fill gaps.

I have high hopes for the conference call monday.

I do not know what time they will be releasing their information, so I decided to pick up some more shares today, ahead of the announcement. Got them for $0.26. Nice average down for me.

I think subscriber numbers and revenue will disappoint for Q3, but I am looking for good projections into q4 and beyond. Specifically, I want to hear about the success of Best Of Both subscriptions and churn. I think Q4 will take care of itself, but I hope they will be having some new radios coming out for the holiday sales. We are getting too close to wait much longer.

Dee: I agree. A free radio with 1-2 year upfront subscription would be great. Associate that with instore purchase of the subscription so they can walk out of the store with a working radio, and I think you have a good holiday season and the elimination of a lot of inventory.

I also think Mel will talk about the DEI deal, announce their new deal with another company, and talk about financing - there already or nearly complete.

In a perfect world, I would like to hear Mel state that the have secured 100% of the financing needed for all of the 09 debt, and that the board has authorized a share buy back program with current cash on hand.

I know, Im dreaming. Key, Demien: Keep up the great work in this thread. Key, don't go too far. Many people work and are unable to post frequently throughout the day. I follow the thread on my iphone, but posting can be difficult, since I tend to be long winded.

    Different Radio plans

Something that I think could attract more subscribers may be to do something like what the cellphone companies do...build the price of the Radio into the subscription and/or offer the cheap Radios for Free for first time subscribers instead of offering them for free to the current subscribers (I paid for my first radio but my second one was offered for free if added it to my current plan). They have to give something for FREE and preferably not the accesories or an installation... either the Radios or the first month of subscription on a 12 month contract billed monthly, not in a lump sump....
I do not know they got to think of any other options available to attract more people...and keep them !!!

I read the boards at somepoint everyday. I am just not as knowledgeable as most on these boards when it comes to investing. I love the product, so I purchased shares.....That's why I don't post, but I do read!!

I appreciate the oppinions and updates of Demian and Key and the others who add to the board.

Thanks for the kind words. It's nice to know that I'm not talking to myself...

I'm hoping other people get involved and help out, as I won't always be able to be as active as I have been. I've been trying to get it started and keep it flowing until more people get involved...

    Demian...

Just a suggestion...if you want the dailey intraday to have more people use it, clean it out dailey, in other words delete the previous day posts and start new each day.

Who wants to go through 16 or 17 pages of old comments ??? to find the starting point for the new day?

A lot of the comments start from Tyler's news releases dailey, you need to carry the same topic here as a starting point for the dailey thread.

But whatever you do, empty it .

    imho
