Came acros this message on the yahoo board.

"I just got a call from the XM people.... 46 minutes ago
they said my free trial offer has expired on my 2008 Hond Civic and wanted to know if I wanted to sign up. I said no and he said that they would give me the service for 6 months for 3.99 a month. I told him that I just never really used it when I had the free trial offer and that I had no real interest in it. He then said that he would offer me a 1 year contract for 1.99 a month and I said no thanks.
I guess this company is in worse shape that even I thought."

Has anyone else heard of this before from Sirius XM. I remember AOL in the past doing the same thing to keep subs.

I hope so because selling for less does not say to much about your product. IF people want to cancel, sirius XM reps should try and convince the sub to at least accept the entry level sub package then offer then the best of XM for a trial.

For the record, I pulled this off the yahoo message board. The offer that was given to this person does not surprise me at all because I have had similar offers in the past for other products and services. I do remember one case when I sighing up for a credit watch service for 11.99 a month then eventually trying to cancel it and was offer to keep the service for 3.99 a month. I think offers like this are on a case by case basis. The reps have scripts that they follow and are authorized to give certain deals when see fit. I think the sub number is important to Sirius XM for several reasons. It does not cost Siri anything to keep a receiver on for a discounted price.

Why would someone come to a yahoo finance board to post that information? Think about it. Did AOL ever try to cut someone a deal? Sure. Did anyone who wasn't vested run to a finance board to post about it? Of course not.

People report things to messages boards because they want to be the first to report something. Most people think others are making up stuff because they have not heard the same news. Anything is possible in this economy, companies will do what it takes to survive. Nothing surprises me.

No one posts anything for no reason. When was the last time you did?

I cant speak for others but I only post things that I come across and have not been mentioned on message boards or forums. Its obvious that no one has seen or heard of the original post so I guess this thread should be closed.

So you only post things that you think are exclusive news?

Also, you post things about companies/products that you have no interest in? I am not sure I understand what it is you are trying to say.

I would invite any other members to tell us if you ever post about companies that you have no interest in, such as in this example. I am honestly curious but I assume people need to have some kind of motivation to take time out of their day to post about something. Am I wrong? Do people do this kind of thing for fun?

For the record, we don't typically close threads. People are allowed to continue to participate or not.
