    9/11: Have we forgotten?

In Trumpworld, 9/11 is all about Trump. Today, the 18th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that left nearly 3,000 dead, Trump sent out a picture of himself and Melania with the caption "We Will Never Forget." Critics quickly added, "Except when we invite Taliban terrorists to Camp David." (It was Trump's second tweet of the day; his first tweet was a rant about China and the trade war.) Salon political writer Amanda Marcotte is dismayed that for Donald Trump, "We will never forget" is just another "branding opportunity." She's even more dismayed by how our nation is being torn apart by the "lying bigot" in the White House and his "hateful, alienating, authoritarian politics." Trump, Marcotte writes, is destroying America in a way Osama bin Laden never could have dreamed.

We forgot the lessons of 9/11; Osama bin Laden would love Trump
In electing Donald Trump, we gave Osama exactly what he wanted, by exposing the US as a hapless paper tiger.

At 6 AM September 11, 2001, I was stunned to hear KFI newsman Gary Hoffmann say an airplane crashed into one of the World Trade Center towers. I turned on CNN just in time to see a plane crash into the other tower. That is when I, and every American, knew the crashes were not accidents. Later a third plane hit the Pentagon and a fourth plane headed for the White House crashed in Pennsylvania after its passengers thwarted the hijackers in their final moments of life. Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, who masterminded the attacks, faces the death penalty. His trial is set to begin – finally! — on January 11, 2021.

Here is CNN's coverage of September 11, 2001, the day Alan Jackson described in song as the day "when the world stopped turning":

CNN's Chris Cillizza faults Donald Trump for a complete lack of empathy: "Even as President, he tends to see everything through a simple lens: Me, me, me and how does this affect, well, me." Today, after lashing out at "Crooked Hillary" and "fake polls" and "fake news" and "lamestream media," Trump finally got around to tweeting about 9/11 – and made it all about him.

Donald Trump surely has a strange way of commemorating 9/11
At solemn times like today's 9/11 anniversary, it's hard not to be struck by how different Trump acts compared to his predecessors.

I started work at 5 that day and did not know what had happened until another person came to work at 7 and told us. We listened to news on the radio all day and hardly any of us talked to each other, we were just so shocked. It is hard to believe it has been 18 years already.

Here is an editorial that says 9/11 brought us together as a nation but now 20 years later we are more divided and more polarized than ever.

Prepare to be outraged. Two thousand, nine hundred ninety-six people died in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. That number includes the 19 hijackers. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the Pakistani terrorist who masterminded the attacks, still has not gone to trial and now we learn he might make a deal that allows him to avoid the death penalty.
