    Donald Trump indicted – again

On August 8, 2022, FBI agents removed 20 boxes of documents from Mar-a-Lago. Many of the documents are top secret, classified or confidential and are supposed to be safeguarded in a secure government facility. (The FBI search took place two months after a Trump attorney lied and said all the government documents that were at Mar-a-Lago had been returned to the National Archives.) Trump insisted the documents belong to him. They do not. They belong to the National Archives. Trump insisted he "declassified" the documents. That was a lie. Trump insisted he is protected by "executive privilege." He isn't. He is no longer the President. Following today's indictment, the orange-skinned parrot is making his usual squawks: "Hoax! Witch hunt! Hoax! Witch hunt! Awwwkkkk!"

Trump indicted on 7 charges in classified documents probe
NBC News, Jun 8 2023 6:09 PM PDT

A federal grand jury has indicted Donald Trump on seven criminal counts in connection with his mishandling of more than 100 classified documents that were discovered last year at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, making the twice-impeached former commander-in-chief the first former president to face federal criminal charges. The charges include willfully retaining national defense secrets in violation of the Espionage Act, making false statements and an obstruction-of justice-conspiracy.

Two sources familiar with the matter confirmed the indictment, with one adding that Trump has received a summons to appear in U.S. district court on June 13. One source notes that seven charges doesn’t necessarily mean seven counts. There can be multiple counts associated with each charge.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said: "The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax." He later posted a four-minute video where he said he's "an innocent man" and called the probe a "hoax."

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who has sold his soul to Donald Trump and protects him and defends him at all costs, issued this statement: "Today is indeed a dark day for the United States of America. It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades. I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, stand with President Trump against this grave injustice. House Republicans will hold this brazen weaponization of power accountable."

Uh, Kevin? Trump was indicted by the Department of Justice, not by Joe Biden. Trump is also no longer the President. And as for believing in "the rule of law," you declared on January 13, 2021 that Trump "bears responsibility" for the deadly Capitol riot and "should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding" – and then a day later you walked back your comments. You even flew to Mar-a-Lago to beg Trump's forgiveness for criticizing him and you opposed the creation of a bipartisan committee to investigate the riot.

Trump is asking his supporters to give money for his defense. He is a billionaire. He should use his own money.

The federal indictment has been unsealed. Trump faces a total of 37 counts, including 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information. He is charged with one count each of conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document or record, corruptly concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a federal investigation, scheme to conceal, and false statements and representations.

Trump lawyers John Rowley and Jim Trusty resigned this morning. In a statement, they said, "It has been an honor to have spent the last year defending him and we know he will be vindicated." If they are so confident, why did they resign?

Today another indictment was handed down. Walt Nauta and a maintenance worker at Mar-a-Lago moved several boxes of classified documents before the FBI executed a search warrant last August.

During the 2016 Presidential campaign, Donald Trump denounced Hilary Clinton for keeping sensitive information on a private email server instead of on a secure government server. In July of that year, FBI director James Comey concluded that Clinton may have violated some statutes regarding the handling of classified information but he said "no reasonable prosecutor would file such a case." Trump wrote on Twitter that Clinton should be disqualified from running for President. "I'm going to enforce all laws regarding the protection of classified information," he declared. "No one will be above the law." That was then. This is now. Trump believes he is above the law.

All those things Trump said about classified documents were noted in the indictment. I think his lawyers will try to delay the trial until after the 2024 election.

Donald Trump never admits to wrongdoing – ever. When Trump is accused – and even when he's indicted – his tactic is to deny, divert and deflect. Speaking today at a GOP convention in Columbus, Georgia, Trump said the indictment is "baseless" and called special counsel Jack Smith, the lead prosecutor in the Mar-a-Lago documents investigation, "deranged," a "coward" and a "Trump hater." Trump knows how to keep his blindly loyal supporters stirred up. They, same as Trump himself, believe he can do no wrong. They worship Trump almost as much as he worships himself.

During a televised debate on October 9, 2016, Donald Trump told Hilary Clinton, " If I win, I'm going to instruct the attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there's never been so many lies, so much deception. You get a subpoena and after getting the subpoena, you delete 33,000 emails." Trump, of course, was wrong. Emails from Clinton's time as Secretary of State were indeed deleted from her personal email server – but before she was subpoenaed. Regardless, Trump began leading his rally-goers in chants of "Lock her up! Lock her up!" With Trump now facing 37 indictments over his mishandling of classified documents, everyone who believes in justice should be chanting, "Lock him up! Lock him up!"

Trump faces difficult odds in classified documents case
Trump's greatest peril could lie in the charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice, which carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Retrumplicans have bitterly denounced the recent indictments of Donald Trump and complained about what they perceive as "the weaponization of the Justice Department." But if Trump weaponizes the Justice Department, they will wholeheartedly approve. Trump's enemies have to be punished.

Trump vows to 'go after' Biden’s family in bitter Truth Social rant
    The Independent, Jun 12 2023 12:45 PM

A vengeful Donald Trump today swore he’d get even with Joe Biden as he boarded a private jet to Miami where he is set to face his second criminal indictment this year. The ex-President ranted on Truth Social that he planned to use the power of the federal government, should he be elected to the Presidency in 2024, to personally target Biden’s family.

“I WILL APPOINT A REAL SPECIAL ‘PROSECUTOR’ TO GO AFTER THE MOST CORRUPT PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE USA, JOE BIDEN, THE ENTIRE BIDEN CRIME FAMILY & ALL OTHERS INVOLVED WITH THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR ELECTIONS, BORDERS & COUNTRY ITSELF!” fumed Trump in an all-caps rant.

It was a stunning declaration that throws the future of America’s justice system into question as such a move would wholly eliminate the independence and integrity of the Department of Justice, should he be successful.
