Barr seems to regard himself as the personal attorney of King Donald the First. He does King Donald's bidding and seeks to reward Trump's allies and punish Trump's enemies. Thanks to Senate Republicans and their impeachment acquittal votes, King Donald is above the law and above the Constitution, free to do whatever he wants with impunity. Is Barr, too, above the law and above the Constitution? It's starting to look that way.

Bill Barr declared that White House officials have "absolute immunity" and cannot be forced to testify. Bill Barr whitewashed the Robert Mueller report showing Trump's repeated obstruction of justice. Bill Barr denounced an FBI investigation as "spying." Bill Barr denounced the Inspector General's report on the Russia probe and ordered a second investigation. Bill Barr overruled prosecutors' recommended sentence for Trump ally Roger Stone. Bill Barr ordered a review of the case against Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser. Bill Barr insists the President has a "legal right" to interfere in investigations and sentencings. Bill Barr's title is United States Attorney General but he's acting as King Donald's personal attorney. More than 2,000 prosecutors, former prosecutors and Justice Department officials are now calling on Barr to resign. Among them is Donald Ayer, a Deputy Attorney General under George H.W. Bush. In an essay for The Atlantic, Ayer says Barr is "un-American" and attacking "the core principles that guide our justice system and especially our Department of Justice." Yeah, well, welcome to the autocracy of King Donald the First.

The Attorney General is working to destroy the integrity and independence of the Justice Department in order to make Donald Trump a President who can operate above the law.

King Donald the First is above the law and above the Constitution. King Donald the First obviously belueves his allies, aides and associates should also be above the law and above the Constitution.

How many criminal cases, investigations, convictions and prison sentences will King Donald the First interfere in? Apparently, every one that involves himself, every one that involves a Republican and every one that involves one of his aides, advisers or associates. King Donald is just getting started.

Now that King Donald the First knows he is free to abuse his power with impunity, he's going absolutely nuts! During his campaign, Trump said he would be "tough on crime and corruption" and now he's pardoning people who were convicted for tax fraud, securities fraud, conspiracy, lying under oath and other charges. An outraged Elie Honig, a CNN political analyst and former state and federal prosecutor, said today, "Someone take away Trump's pardon pen. This is crazy!"

Since 1789, our nation's chief law-enforcement officer has always been the Attorney General of the United States. William Barr is the 94th person (including acting Attorneys General) to hold that position. As of February 5, 2020, the day when Senate Republicans effectively turned our nation into an autocracy ruled by power-mad, self-serving King Donald the First, the most powerful law-enforcement officer is King Donald the First. He says so. King Donald assumes the divine right to ignore subpoenas, withhold evidence, threaten and intimidate witnesses, order criminal investigations of his critics and grant pardons and clemency to his allies. Justice is whatever King Donald declares it to be. Meanwhile, rumors are swirling that Barr is considering resigning as Attorney General.

II Thessalonians 2:4 warns of a "son of perdition" who "will exalt himself.....He will even sit in the Temple of God, claiming that he himself is God." With every passing day, it seems increasingly likely that the man who fulfills that prophecy will be vain, pompous, egotistical, narcissistic, power-mad, self-serving, self-worshipping King Donald the First. He believes he's all-knowing and all-powerful and he knows he's above the law and above the Constitution. It's just a matter of time before he declares himself to be God.

Analysis: Trump's pardon spree deepens crisis gripping American justice system
The President effectively undid complex prosecutions, ignored jury decisions and usurped government prosecutors who put years into high-profile cases.

Excerpts from today's Los Angeles Times editorial, "Trump abuses the pardon power":

"Trump seems to see the pardon as a way to reward supporters and score political points. The beneficiaries have included former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, a hero of the anti-immigrant right who was absolved of a contempt-of-court conviction; conservative provocateur Dinesh D'Souza, who was pardoned after pleading guilty to violating campaign finance laws; and, more recently, several members of the US military, including three service members accused or convicted of war crimes.

Trump commuted the prison sentence of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, an epically corrupt politician who once appeared on Trump's reality TV series Celebrity Apprentice and was prosecuted by Patrick Fitzgerald, a friend of James Comey, who was fired as FBI director by Trump and who has become an obsession for him. As all five Republican House members warned the President last year in a joint statement, 'Commuting the sentence of Rod Blagojevich, who has a clear and documented record of egregious corruption, sets a dangerous precedent and goes against the trust voters place in elected officials.'

Trump granted a pardon to former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to tax fraud and making false statements. Kerik was appointed to that post by then-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, currently Trump's personal lawyer.

Overall, Trump's exercise of the pardon power has been at best whimsical and at worst self-serving and blatantly political. The President would be committing an even worse corruption of the pardon power if he used it to annul the convictions of figures such as Paul Manafort and Roger Stone. Given Trump's contempt for law enforcement and the judicial system, that is a real concern."

Well, another of those "very best people" King Donald the First says he surrounds himself with will be going to prison – but, thanks to King Donald's interference, the sentence was less than half of what prosecutors recommended. In our autocracy, justice is whatever King Donald says it is.

Letter from Karl Schmid of Los Angeles in today's Los Angeles Times:

"Based on the crimes committed by the 11 people to whom President Trump just granted clemency, our President is trying to get us to believe that white-collar crimes – which he himself has credibly been accused of committing – are not crimes at all. Along with imploding the Department of Justice and desecrating our environment, the President is dragging our country down to the lowest possible level of morality. When will it end?"

It will end on January 20, 2021, provided voters deny a second term to lying, cheating, deranged, dishonest, crooked, corrupt, power-mad, self-serving King Donald the First.
