Blake Mycoskie established the "Shoes For Tomorrow" project and founded TOMS Shoes in 2006 in Santa Monica, California. ("TOMS" derived from "Tomorrow.") He pledged that for every pair of shoes sold, he would give a free pair of shoes to a needy child in Argentina, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Haiti, Mexico or other country. The company now also sells coffee, clothing, handbags and jewelry.
