"I'll cut taxes before the midterms!" "Democrats are an angry mob who want to take away your guns and your healthcare and allow millions of illegals to come to this country!" "The White House is a smooth-running machine!" How can this orange-skinned buffoon continue to tell so many lies while, at the same time, denouncing the news media as "fake news"?

I like this description by Los Angeles Times Washington DC reporters Eli Stokols and Noah Bierman: "This is Trump at his most Trumpy, two weeks before an election. The salesman is out pitching promises, fear, riches -- anything to make the sale, never mind if it's true, and to get Republicans out to vote."

Hackers are using malicious software to delete, modify or copy voter data. At the risk of being branded as a Luddite, I think we should consider printing out all the voter data and storing it in secure locations and then deleting all the online records. Drastic? Yes. But it would end the problem of hacking.

California has a population estimated at 39,600,000. Six states -- Delaware, Vermont, Wyoming, Alaska, North Dakota and South Dakota -- have populations of less than 1,000,000. Is it fair that California should have the same number of Senators as the low-population states -- or all the other states? Nay, say I. But California has 53 Representatives in Congress, more than any other state, and California plays a major role in the Democrats' goal of retaking the House. Michael Bloomberg knows that.

Michael Bloomberg drops $9.5 million on ads targeting GOP Reps. Rohrabacher and Knight in midterm election
Los Angeles Times, Oct 25 2018 5:20 PM

Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg has spent millions to boost the campaigns of House candidates Katie Hill and Harley Rouda. Bloomberg’s Independence USA political action committee has launched a major ad campaign aimed at unseating Republican Reps. Dana Rohrabacher of Costa Mesa and Steve Knight of Palmdale, spending $4.4 million on advertising against Rohrabacher and $5.1 million to promote Knight's Democratic challenger, Katie Hill.

It is part of the PAC’s expected $11-million final push for Democrats in tight House races in California, with a small amount going to Mike Levin, who is vying to succeed retiring GOP Rep. Darrell Issa of Vista. Bloomberg’s spending underscored California’s pivotal role in deciding which party will control the House for the second half of President Trump’s term. Democrats, who need to gain 23 seats to win the majority, have targeted Rohrabacher, Knight and Reps. Mimi Walters of Laguna Beach and Jeff Denham of the San Joaquin Valley. They also hope to capture the open seats of Issa and departing GOP Rep. Ed Royce of Fullerton. The unpopularity of Trump, who lost all six districts in 2016, has put every one of those seats in play for Democrats.

Trump's "agenda" is on the ballot? What exactly would that be: Bigotry, hatred, threats, bluster, lies, trade wars, persecution of immigrants, attacks on the news media, tax cuts for the wealthy and a dismantling of Obamacare?

Trump is 'not on the ballot' in 2018 but his agenda is, campaign manager Brad Parscale says

Donald Trump refuses to tone down his hateful rhetoric and with midterm elections just seven days away, his aides are trying to portray him as a "unifier," something Trump has never been, nor will ever be. Here is further proof of that -- and when did "@" become a verb?

Trump, showing no evidence, calls Andrew Gillum a 'thief'
    CNN, Oct 30 2018 2:49 AM

President Donald Trump today launched what opponents decried as a racially loaded attack on Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, labeling him a "thief" without evidence and claiming that, as mayor of Tallahassee, Gillum oversees one of the country's "most corrupt cities."

The President's tweet comes jusseven days before the election to decide who will lead the state: Gillum or his Republican rival, former Rep. Ron DeSantis. Early voting is already underway and Gillum, who is vying to become the state's first African-American governor, led by double digits in a recent CNN poll.

Gillum responded less than an hour after Trump's attack and mocked the President for not engaging him more directly. "On Twitter there is a choice between having the courage to @ the person you are trash talking, or not," Gillum wrote. "@realDonaldTrump is howling because he's weak."

DeSantis has keyed in on Gillum's 2016 decision to accept a ticket to see the Broadway show Hamilton from a group that included an undercover FBI agent as evidence that an ongoing federal corruption probe in Tallahassee is closer to the mayor than has been reported. DeSantis has also questioned whether a trip Gillum took that year to Costa Rica with his wife, along with lobbyist and longtime friend Adam Corey and his associates, was appropriate. Gillum has said he paid his own way.

No one connected to Gillum or the investigation has been charged with a crime and Gillum has repeatedly said the FBI has told him he is not a focus of the probe. There has been no suggestion of outright thievery, as suggested by Trump, even by Gillum's political opponents. The probe centers on whether developers successfully influenced city projects.

"These desperate falsehoods make it clear the Trump Administration is more concerned with saving the failed gubernatorial campaign of its loyal lapdog Ron DeSantis, than it is with the truth," Gillum said in a statement. "It's simply wrong to say Mayor Gillum is under FBI investigation and the FBI has confirmed it. Conspiracy theories aren't true just because President Trump and Ron DeSantis pretend they are."

More than 1.2 million Floridans have already voted and I doubt many of them are happy with the Republicans' many attempts to gut Obamacare or the Republicans' declaration that cuts to Medicare and Social Security are necessary in order to offset the costs of the huge tax cut given to the wealthiest Americans.

The number of hate crimes against Jews has risen dramatically in the last few years. Our nation's deadliest attack on Jews occurred just three days ago when a white nationalist shot and killed 11 people in a Pittsburgh synagogue. And now we have a Republican Senatorial candidate perpetuating a negative stereotype by sending out a mailer depicting his opponent, a Jew, clutching several hundred-dollar bills. Lovely.

In six days, we will discover the extent to which Donald Trump's Hallowe'en tricks have hurt Republican candidates in the midterms. "The synagogue shooting is the news media's fault!" "The mailing of pipe bombs to Democrats is the news media's fault!" "The migrant caravan includes terrorists and gang members! The migrants are invaders! They won't get into the US!" "I will abolish the 14th Amendment by executive order! The United States is the only country to allow birthright citizenship!" (Actually, there are 30 others.) "Paul Ryan says I can't abolish the 14th Amendment but he's wrong! He doesn't know anything about it!" (Actually, Ryan is correct.) "The hatred and anger in this nation is the news media's fault! There is absolutely no way my hateful, bigoted, anti-immigrant, white nationalist rhetoric has anything to do with it!"

Trump surprise rattles GOP in final stretch
    The Hill, Oct 31 2018

President Trump's plan to end birthright citizenship has tossed a grenade into the final stretch of the midterm elections, roiling centrist Republicans and further endangering a House majority already at risk of slipping away. While Trump's proposal could boost Senate GOP candidates and earned applause from allies such as Senator Lindsey Graham, others worry it could hurt the party's chances in key suburban swing districts, critical territory to retaining the House.

Trump's call to change the Constitution via executive order also struck a discordant note with a GOP conference that filed court briefs in a lawsuit against former President Obama's executive actions on immigration.

"You obviously cannot do that. You cannot end birthright citizenship with an executive order," Speaker Paul Ryan told Lexington radio station WVLK. "We didn't like it when Obama tried changing immigration laws via executive action, and obviously as conservatives, we believe in the Constitution."

Florida Rep. Carlos Curbelo, who is locked in a tough reelection battle in his Miami-area district, blasted Trump over the proposed move. "Birthright citizenship is protected by the Constitution. No, Donald Trump, you can't end it by executive order," Curbelo tweeted. "What we really need is broad immigration reform that makes our country more secure and reaffirms our wonderful tradition as a nation of immigrants."

Trump's vow seemed aimed at stoking his base but the reaction from Republicans indicated they are increasingly worried about how the fight to retain their House majority is going. Trump's proposal is just the latest escalation of his hard-line immigration rhetoric, which has ramped up in the final weeks before Election Day.

Hunter and his wife were indicted for using $250,000 of campaign funds for vacations and shopping sprees and claiming part of that money went to "wounded warriors." San Diego County voters would rather re-elect a corrupt, lying, embezzling Republican than vote for an honest, Christian Democrat -- and that is truly scary.

The future of our democracy is at stake. Are we going to vote for the party that will restore some sanity and decency to our federal government or are we going to vote for the party of misogynistic, immigrant-hating, self-serving white nationalists who give huge tax cuts to the wealthy, roll back anti-global-warming regulations, seek to destroy Obamacare and plan to make cuts to Medicare and Social Security?
