This story, which fits right in with the above story, comes from TCC, the Trump Cheerleading Channel (also known as Fox News). Trump continues to stoke fear and hatred in his followers by saying the migrants from Central America are "invaders" and falsely claiming their number includes "gang members," "terrorists" and "bad people." By the way, in a new poll out today, Trump's approval rating fell four percentage points in the past week.

Trump: Caravan migrants are 'wasting their time'
    Fox News, Oct 29 2018

President Donald Trump told Fox News this evening that Central American migrants approaching the US-Mexico border in caravans are "wasting their time" and vowed, "They are not coming in."

Trump spoke to Laura Ingraham hours after the Pentagon announced it would deploy some 5,200 troops to the southern border in an effort to "harden the southern border" by stiffening defenses at and near legal entry points. "They're wasting their time. When they are captured, we don't let them out," Trump said. "We're not letting them out. We're not catching, we're not releasing. We're not letting them into this country."

The President repeatedly has raised the alarm about the first migrant caravan approaching the US. "Many Gang Members and some very bad people are mixed into the Caravan heading to our Southern Border," Trump tweeted this morning. "Please go back. You will not be admitted into the United States unless you go through the legal process. This is an invasion of our Country and our Military is waiting for you!"

The White House is also weighing additional border security measures, including blocking those traveling in the caravan from seeking legal asylum and blocking them from entering the United States.

"I'm not fear-mongering," Trump declared today. "Immigration is a very important issue." The migrants are still 900 miles away from our border and they say they will not sneak into the United States but will ask for asylum and seek legal citizenship. Yet Trump thinks we need 15,000 military personnel at the border to keep these migrants out of the "land of the free and the home of the brave. " You're wrong, Donald. You are fear-mongering. You're stoking fear, hatred and racism in your blindly loyal, immigrant-hating followers -- and what is truly sad is that you enjoy doing so.

It is a shame that our immigrant-hating President is so busy calling migrants "terrorists" and "bad people" and insisting we need to build a border wall and talking about sending 15,000 military men to the border and hinting that they will shoot at any migrants who throw rocks and sending out videos claiming Democrats will allow millions of killers into the US. He's so busy, he probably will not see this story. It's okay, though -- he would just say it's "fake news."

Trump's attempts to deter lawful migrants from seeking asylum, his plans for "tent cities" and his policy of separating parents from children are indeed unconstitutional -- but what do you expect from a man who attacks the free press, wants to abolish the 14th Amendment by "executive order" and tries to persuade the Justice Department to punish his enemies? Two years ago, Gold Star father Khizr Khan asked if Trump has ever read the Constitution. Maybe he has, I don't know. It doesn't matter, though. Trump ignores the Constitution.

Only one-fifth of the 7,000 migrants headed northward are expected to make it to the US border and there are no terrorists among their number -- but Trump wants to send as many as 15,000 soldiers to the border to protect us from the "invasion" of "terrorists" and "bad people." Trump also continues to insist he is not fear-mongering. He is.

Trump refuses to admit that his racist, bigoted, hateful, white nationalist rhetoric and his xenophobic, anti-immigrant fear-mongering are greatly hurting our nation. He blames the news media for all the strife, anger, division and hate crimes. Migrants fleeing the violence and poverty in Central America are planning to apply for legal asylum in the United States and the Fearmonger-In-Chief calls them "invaders" and rants and raves as if these migrants are the greatest threat our nation has ever faced. And yes, his hateful rhetoric does have a negative effect. Exhibit 'A': More than 200 armed vigilantes are heading to the border to help fend off the "invaders."

Reports of the migrant caravan bring out the worst in some people, such as the immigrant-hating Texas vigilantes (above), our immigrant-hating President and his immigrant-hating followers, but they also bring out the best in some people. In Texas, churches and donors are providing food and shelter for the migrants. Care, concern, compassion, respect and decency -- what a concept!

"Hey, if the President of the United States doesn't have to respect the First Amendment, we shouldn't have to either." What do the immigration officials not want the public to find out about? Filth? Brutality? Disease? Sexual abuse? Inadequate nutrition? All of the above?

ICE moves to silence detention center volunteer visitors
Los Angeles Times, Nov 6 2018

Immigration officials have stopped allowing a volunteer group to visit people at Otay Mesa Detention Center unless its members agreed not to talk with the media or other groups about conditions inside.

Immigration & Customs Enforcement said members of Souls Offering Loving & Compassionate Ears must sign the Volunteer Code of Ethics to be in compliance with the agency's detention standards. The group so far has refused, arguing that detention standards don't require them to sign away their 1st Amendment rights in order to visit detainees.

"I think they're circling the wagons to stop people from knowing what’s going on inside," said SOLACE volunteer Steve Gelb of Mission Valley. "It gives ICE more impunity."

Since 2012, SOLACE volunteers have made more than 1,450 visits to at least 800 immigrants at Otay Mesa. They try to give detainees who don't have anyone to visit them a feeling of humanity, emotional support and hope. "Without SOLACE, people who are detained at Otay have very little way to communicate with the outside world," said Angela Fujii, who coordinates the program through the First Unitarian Universalist Church. "It's a very vulnerable population that we know is now suffering and being neglected."

The new requirement took volunteers by surprise. They thought they had a good relationship with ICE and had been told the agency appreciated their work. Volunteers speculate that either the political climate or critical media coverage of conditions in immigration detention facilities may have led to the change but they could not think of a specific report that might have triggered the code's restrictive language.

The confidentiality sections of the new code require volunteers to agree not to share information they acquire without written permission from the warden. The volunteers worry that if a detainee told them about abuse at the facility, they wouldn't be able to speak up. They also took issue with a part of the form that says they "represent" CoreCivic, the for-profit prison company that owns and operates Otay Mesa.

To David Loy, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union in San Diego, the restrictions in the code are unconscionable. "This is an absolutely unconstitutional attempt to stifle speech and evade accountability," he said. Loy has sent a letter threatening legal action if ICE doesn’t reinstate SOLACE.

The Deferred Action On Childhood Arrivals program shields from deportation young adults who, as children, were brought to the US ilegally by their parents. Trump sought to end the program. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals just told him he can't.

People fleeing war, violence, persecution or famine in their home country can seek sanctuary in the United States. Asylum is granted on a case-by-case basis. Our megalomaniacal, immigrant-hating President has decided that illegal immigrants are such a huge security risk -- never mind that the majority of mass shootings are committed by American-born white men -- that he plans to deny asylum to all immigrants who illegally cross into the US. Trump may eventually think he even has the power to halt legal immigration. That would not surprise me.
