MSNBC just aired portions of today's Trump-Putin press conference. One reporter asked Trump, "Will you denounce Russia's election meddling and warn Putin to not do it again?" Trump, of course, did neither. He insults Democrats, Mexicans, Muslims, immigrants, women, abuse victims, the handicapped, war heroes, federal judges, news papers, news channels, the FBI, the CIA, the EPA, Theresa May, Sadiq Khan, Justin Trudeau and Angela Merkel but he never says so much as one unkind word about his BFF Vladimir.

Another reporter asked Putin, "Did you want Trump to win the election and did you direct your officers to help him win?" Putin answered yes to both questions. He finally admitted it! (He reasoned that Trump would strengthen US-Russia relations.)

Regarding meddling in the 2016 election, Trump today said National Intelligence Director Dan Coats "thinks it's Russia." MSNBC played clips of Coats declaring that he knows Russia meddled in our election. He urged Trump to confront Putin about it. There is rampant speculation that Putin possesses compromising information about Trump, possibly video of Trump's trysts with Russian prostitutes. Trump dismissed the idea, saying "If he had anything, he would have released it by now." Wrong. Several analysts say Putin would keep the compromising material and use it for blackmail and the obtaining of favors.

And what three words did Trump end the press conference with? He once again described the Mueller investigation as a "rigged witch hunt." Wrong again. All those indictments and guilty pleas are not the result of a "witch hunt. "

Fact checkers at The Washington Post analyzed all the claims made by Trump and Putin at yesterday's press conference. (Spoiler alert: Trump and Putin disregard the facts and make up their own.)

Does Donald Trump's book The Art Of The Deal have a chapter on backtracking and damage control? Yesterday Trump said he saw no reason why Russia would meddle in our elections. Today he declares that what he really meant to say was that he saw no reason Russia would not meddle in our elections. No, Donald, you said exactly what you meant: You trust your BFF Vladimir more than you trust our nation's intelligence agencies.

Russia meddled in our 2016 Presidential election. Russia. No one else. Just Russia. That was the unanimous conclusion of every US intelligence agency. Today Donald Trump, reading a damage-control speech written for him by his staff, said he accepts the findings of our intelligence agencies that Russia meddled in our election. Then he went off-script, adding, "Could be other people also." CNN editor Chris Cillizza was not fooled by Trump's speech:

Five words that reveal Trump still isn't convinced Russia meddled in the 2016 election

"So many people at the higher ends of intelligence loved my press conference performance in Helsinki," Trump tweeted this morning. Yes, he called it a "performance." And yes, the Egotist-In-Chief made another false statement.

And the lies just keep on coming: "There's never been a President as tough on Russia as I have been." We all saw Trump wink at Putin before the press conference started. They are best buddies. And again Trump contradicts our intelligence agencies and denies Russian election meddling.

This headline reveals -- as if there is any doubt -- where Trump's loyalties lie: He loves Putin and Russia and hates the First Amendment and freedom of the press. A July 15 New York Times editorial called Trump a "treasonous traitor" for cozying up to Putin and ignoring Russian election meddling. Any arguments? No?

The "three R's" used to be reading, 'riting and 'rithmeric. Now the three R's are Russians, Republicans and the Rifle Association. And the web gets more and more tangled:

Maria Butina, explained: the accused Russian spy who tried to sway US politics through the NRA
She met with Donald Trump Jr. and lived with a Republican consultant. Where will this investigation lead?

Trump will never say or do anything against Putin -- and the Congressional Republicans will never say or do anything against Trump. These failed resolutions, while having no force of law, would have expressed support for our intelligence agencies, something Trump does not do. He attacks the FBI, the CIA, Muslims, Mexicans, the news media, the court system and thousands of other entities but he has the highest praise for Putin, Duterte, Erdogan and other dictators. Midterm elections are four months away. We need to vote these spineless Republicans out of office.

When our President refuses to believe Russians are meddling in our elections, he may as well be putting out a welcome mat for them.

Microsoft says Russia has already tried to hack three campaigns in the 2018 election
