After the Parkland massacre, Dick's Sporting Goods quit selling assault rifles. Now the chain is taking another positive step by destroying its unsold stock -- and the gun-worshipping NRA is denouncing Dick's actions as a "waste." Hey, NRA, how about the waste of thousands of human lives in shootings and massacres? Huh? How about that?

    "Never again." Oh, if only.......

Parkland survivors David Hogg and Lauren Hogg to publish book #NeverAgain
Entertainment Weekly, Apr 18 2018 04:02 PM EDT

David Hogg and Lauren Hogg, students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and survivors of February’s deadly mass shooting in Parkland, Florida have signed a deal with Random House for a book to be published June 5, 2018. The siblings have been leaders in the gun control movement that took shape among students in the aftermath of the Parkland shooting. Their book, #NeverAgain: A New Generation Draws The Line, is described as "a statement of generational purpose and a moving portrait of the birth of a new movement." The book will explore their efforts taking on some of the most powerful forces in Washington and beyond and will detail their commitment to new legislation aiming to prevent future tragedies.

Prosecutors have released three cell phone videos made by Nikolas Cruz. He vowed to be "the next school shooter" and "kill at least 20 people with an AR-15." We need to do a much better job of diagnosing and treating mental illness and we need to ensure that crazy people can never get their hands on a gun, especially an AR-15.

Almost 800 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School seniors graduated today in a closed-to-reporters ceremony at the Florida Panthers' arena. Four students killed in the February 14 massacre received their diplomas posthumously. The commencement speaker -- Surprise! -- was the host of The Tonight Show.

The students will focus on cities with high rates of gun violence, beginning with Chicago, and on states where NRA-backed lawmakers are running for office. The NRA puppets in our Republican-led Congress refuse to ban assault weapons or restrict gun ownership or enact stronger background checks for gun purchases but many of today's young people will eventually be in Congress and things will change.

The tour has begun, with the goal of getting young people to register to vote. Of course then they need to actually vote. Otherwise, nothing will change.

The FBI just released a study of 63 men who went on shooting sprees. More than half posted threats online. In the case of Nikolas Cruz, the threats were reported to authorities and nothing was done to stop him. A third of the killers recorded videos explaining their "reasons" for planning to kill people -- and 58 of the 63 bought their weapons legally. Until Congress can take meaningful action besides offering their de rigueur "thoughts and prayers," nothing will change.

Emily Weinberg, an anti-gun-violence advocate and organizer of a March For Our Lives walkout at her high school, has written an excellent review of the new book by two survivors of the Parkland massacre. The book is a "call to action" to stop gun violence. Sorry, Republicans, doing nothing other than saying your "thoughts and prayers are with the victims" is not "action."

Gun violence affects some families much more than others. Here is another horrific death caused by a robber who got what he wanted.......and still fired his gun. Okay, Republicans, time for another round of "thoughts and prayers."
