Mark Warner is a Democrat. I would like to think some of the Republican Congressmen are finally starting to agree with him. He said today, "I think it's time for us to have a legitimate debate about restrictions on gun magazines and assault weapons. These weaponized, militarized weapons need to be off our streets."

A few Republicans -- a very few -- may be rethinking their pro-gun positions but the majority are always going to value guns and the NRA far more than they value human life. Case in point: Marco Rubio, who "has an A+ rating from the gun rights group for supporting NRA-friendly legislation and has received $3.3 million from the group."

I was appalled and disgusted by Rick Santorum's comments about the Parkland survivors and the anti-gun marchers. I was appalled and disgusted by Marcio Rubio's comments. I was appalled and disgusted by Leland Vittert's comments. I am mega-appalled and super-disgusted by Pete Hegseth's nasty diatribe: "Forgive me if I don’t want a lesson on the Second Amendment from a 16-year-old. Forgive me if I don’t want to watch a 9-year-old tell me that her dream is a world without guns." And then he donates money to the NRA! I do not forgive him -- and I hope nobody does. Fox should fire this gun-loving idiot -- but I'm sure the executives will come to his defense. You know, some of that "freedom of speech" that is granted to some people but not to others.

A photo of Emma tearing up a gun target poster was altered to show her tearing up the Constitution -- just the latest dirty trick from the alt-right and the NRA.

Twitter said it would protect Parkland students but a fake photo of Emma González ripping up the US Constitution still went viral

We no longer have muskets and cannons. We have handguns and assault weapons. We no longer need a "well-regulated militia" to protect us from tyranny. And it was only through the efforts of the NRA that the Second Amendment was re-interpreted to mean everyone in the United States can own all the guns they want. I agree with Stevens' op-ed in today's New York Times. The "right to guns" is depriving many thousands of people of their "right to life."

Fake news from an alt-right website -- and of course Trump doesn't say a word about it. He's too busy attacking legitimate news outlets: CNN is "fake news," ABC is "fake news," NBC is "fake news" the Washington Post is "fake news," the New York Times is fake news.......

Man falsely accused in Parkland shooting suing Alex Jones, InfoWars for defamation
    CBS News, Apr 2 2018 5:52 PM

A Massachusetts man is suing Alex Jones after the conspiracy theorist and conservative radio host's website InfoWars misidentified him as the gunman in an article about the Parkland high school massacre. Marcel Fontaine, 24, filed a lawsuit in Texas court todday naming Jones, InfoWars, parent company Free Speech Systems and Infowars employee Kit Daniels as defendants. Fontaine is seeking damages after he says InfoWars falsely identified him as the shooter and posted photos of him in several versions of an article on InfoWars' website.

Fontaine's suit claims a now-deleted InfoWars article including his photo published on February 14 "conveyed the impression that the photograph depicted the suspected Douglas High School shooter." The article, along with Fontaine's photo, spread across social media. Fontaine said he was then threatened and ridiculed online.

    It's only one city -- but it's a start.

Illinois town votes to ban assault rifles
    CBS News, Apr 4 2018 5:44 PM

The mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida has once again ignited the public debate around assault rifles and large-capacity magazines. And while no sweeping gun control laws have been enacted at the federal level, one town in Illinois is taking matters into its own hands. The Chicago suburb of Deerfield voted on Monday to ban the possession, sale and manufacture of assault weapons and large capacity magazines to "increase the public's sense of safety." Anyone refusing to give up his banned firearm will be fined $1,000 a day until the weapon is handed over or removed from the town's limits.

A district judge upheld Massachusetts' 20-year-old ban on assault weapons, calling them "military weapons" that are beyond the scope of the Constitutional right to "bear arms." Despite the unceasing and obsessive pro-gun efforts of the NRA and their Republican puppets, sanity occasionally prevails. Thank you, Judge Young!

Broward County is home to Marjory Stoneham Douglas High School. The school board wisely concluded that state funds should be spent on hiring more resource officers and not on training and arming teachers.

What a sad testament to the violent times we live in: A student who was shot five times in a hallway and didn't die is considered to be lucky.
