Facebook's "impact"? Many millions of people spend several hours each day on Facebook, writing "LOL" and "OMG" and "ROFL" and posting pictures of what they eat for dinner and have become incapable of having a normal face-to-face conversation with another person.

Remember when teenagers would actually talk to each other face-to-face?

It's true: Teens are ditching Facebook
    CNN, May 31 2018 3:18 PM

A new study has confirmed what we've long expected: Facebook is no longer the most popular social media site among teens ages 13 to 17. The Pew Research Center revealed on Thursday that only 51% of US teens use Facebook. That's a 20% drop since 2015, the last time the firm surveyed teens' social media habits. Now, YouTube is the most popular platform among teens -- about 85% say they use it. Not surprisingly, teens are also active on Instagram (72%) and Snapchat (69%).

Over the past decade, and without users' consent, Facebook has allowed Samsung, Apple, Microsoft, BlackBerry and dozens of other companies to access user's personal information. Facebook calls it "data-sharing partnerships." I call it "illegal. "

Another day, another big headache for Facebook and its users:

Facebook glitch changed millions of privacy settings to 'public'
    CBS News, Jun 7 2018 5:14 PM

Posts of as many as 14 million Facebook users were shared with a broader audience than intended. The social-media giant says a software glitch for 10 days last month switched privacy settings to "public" for millions even if they had wanted only friends to see their posts. "We have fixed this issue and starting today we are letting everyone affected know and asking them to review any posts they made during that time," Erin Egan, Facebook's chief privacy officer, said in an emailed statement. "We'd like to apologize for this mistake."

Another day, another big headache for Facebook and its users. In 2015, Facebook was supposed to have stopped sharing users' friends' data with Nissan and other companies. Supposed to have stopped.......but didn't.

Schrage, who will continue to be an "adviser," said his job left him "little time for much else." Yes, I can see how trying to explain all the fake news, phony accounts, data sharing and other scandals would indeed take a considerable amount of time.

Phony accounts, false information, hate speech, propaganda, data sharing. Is it any wonder so many people no longer trust Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites?
