The state of Illinois filed a lawsuit yesterday against Facebook and Cambridge Analytics over the data harvesting. Zuckerberg's woes are just beginning.

This is from the Los Angeles Times. And may I say to Mark Zuckerberg that it is time to "face the music."

Allow me to respond to this headline. "Too little"? Probably. "Too late"? Definitely.

March 2018 has certainly been "Bad News Month" for Facebook, hasn't it?

Muslims face hatred and violence in Sri Lanka. Facebook has made things worse
Los Angeles Times, Mar 29 2018 2:20 PM

With Sri Lanka under a state of emergency after a spasm of anti-Muslim bloodshed, lawyer Jeevanee Kariyawasam went on Facebook to complain. The company hadn't blocked users inciting violence, she wrote, and the government hadn't arrested those sending out the offending posts. Facebook's response was swift: It suspended Kariyawasam's account.

The company restored her account within 24 hours but the incident highlighted how Facebook has become a powerful vehicle for hate speech worldwide and how the Silicon Valley giant's efforts to police incendiary rhetoric in distant countries have often fallen short. As Facebook confronts a scandal over data privacy in the United States and Britain, it faces widening criticism in Asia for stoking discord in countries with few legal protections for religious, ethnic and political minorities.

This is outrageous! Facebook needs to shut down. Let people go back to talking to each other face-to-face or by telephone, the way they did in the years B.C. -- before computers.

Facebook -- even as it apologizes for scandal -- funds campaign to block a California data-privacy measure
    Breitbart News, Mar 26 2018

Just a few weeks before Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologized for the "breach of trust" that allowed Cambridge Analytica to access the private social media activity of 50 million people, Facebook plunked down $200,000 to fight a data privacy initiative in California. The social media giant’s donation matched others from Google, AT&T, Comcast and Verizon, a million-dollar sign that the issue of how companies collect and share personal information is likely to grow into an expensive fight as election season unfolds in California.

The businesses are fighting an initiative proposed by San Francisco real estate developer Alastair Mactaggart, who’s already spent $1.7 million on a measure that would allow Californians to prohibit companies from selling or sharing their personal data. His campaign is gathering signatures with the goal of landing the California Consumer Privacy Act on the November ballot.

As I said on March 28, Facebook's recent moves are probably too little and definitely too late. Here is the latest example:

Facebook removes 135 accounts and 138 Facebook pages that were linked to Internet Research Agency, the Russian troll farm indicted for meddling in 2016 US election

Facebook went way up today -- and I'm not talking about stock prices. I'm talking about the number of users whose data was improperly shared. It was far more than the 50,000,000 that was initially reported.

Facebook raises the number of users impacted by Cambridge Analytica leak to 87 million

I wonder if Zuckerberg will have to face the music. A judge will probably throw the book at him. (See what I did there?)

    April 4 Business Insider headline:

Mark Zuckerberg says he's still the best person to run Facebook after scandals: 'I think life is about learning from mistakes'

Wow. He must have learned a lot by now!
