Facebook will discontinue a verification system that never should have been enacted in the first place. It required certain email users to give their passwords to Facebook. Passwords should never be shared with anyone who can't be trusted -- and that certainly includes Facebook.

Facebook is asking some new users for their email passwords and appears to be harvesting contacts without consent

On the first post of this thread -- Go look! -- I said social media can cause more harm than good. In a new poll, six in ten Americans feel the same way.....but they still use social media. Go figure!

I'm thinking that the majority of people who have a "secret crush" probably prefer that it stays secret.

Facebook's Dating app wants to connect you with your secret crush
The service is also expanding to 14 new countries.

Facebook's 2018 fourth-quarter profit was $6.9 billion, a 61% increase over the 2017 fourth quarter. It's nice to see Mark Zuckerberg spending his money wisely and not wasting it on foolishness. Wait, what?

Hundreds of Facebook employees partied at a luxury hotel after announcing a big new redesign of the social network
The entertainment on offer included casino tables, karaoke, free massages, an open bar and a magician.

Facebook is now banning "dangerous" people who use slurs and hate speech and incite racial or ethnic violence. It would be nice if Twitter would follow Facebook's lead and ban a certain "dangerous" person.

Facebook bans Louis Farrakhan, Milo Yiannopoulos, InfoWars and others from its platforms as 'dangerous'

Legislators from ten nations want to talk with Zuckerberg about Facebook's disinformation, security breaches and privacy violations. Zuckerberg is refusing to talk with them. They may wind up having to wait outside his home in Palo Alto and pounce on him when he comes out.

Hughes says Facebook is a "powerful monopoly" and Mark Zuckerberg has "unprecedented power." He wants government regulators to break up the company. The government broke up Standard Oil in 1911 and the Bell System in 1982 – but Facebook is a social media platform which is free to join and is supported by advertising. In other words, Chris, it ain't gonna happen.

Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes says it's time to break up the social media giant
