The bidding wars continue. The sooner these sales are completed, the sooner the Justice Department can challenge them. (Yes, I know I'm cynical -- and not without cause, either.)

Comcast and Disney are locked in a separate $70 billion-plus battle to buy most of Fox's assets, which would include Sky.

Does anyone disbelieve the adage that "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer"? Here ya go:

Jeff Bezos becomes the richest person in modern history
    Bloomberg, Jul 16 2018 11:50 AM

Jeff Bezos is the richest person in modern history. The Amazon founder's net worth topped $150 billion Monday morning, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. That's about $55 billion more than Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, the world's second-richest person. Bezos crossed the threshold just as Amazon prepared to kick off its 36-hour summer sales event, Prime Day. The company's share price was $1,825.73 at 11:10 AM, extending its 2018 gain to 56% and giving Bezos a $150.8-billion fortune.

Twitter has been aggressively removing fake accounts, malicious accounts, suspicious accounts and other accounts belonging to no-account trolls. (Say that five times fast.) There were many more millions of such accounts than we ever imagined.

Twitter suspended 58 million accounts in final three months of 2017

The company says it's destroyed $116,000,000 worth of merchandise in the past five years. Think of all the favorable publicity Burberry would have gotten if they had donated all those items to homeless shelters. I think it's time to launch a #BoycottBurberry movement.

Burberry has burned millions of dollars worth of unsold stock
The London-based luxury brand would rather incinerate leftover trench coats, shirts, bags, beauty products and accessories than sell them at a discount.

The old saying "There's no such thing as a free lunch" is not true. Many technology companies provide free lunches as a way to lure workers. However, two San Francisco Supervisors are trying to ban the free lunches, which supposedly are hurting local restaurants and businesses. I see this issue as government overreach and it could wind up in court.

This news is not surprising. In the year 2018, how many kids still play with Matchbox cars, Hot Wheels cars, Barbie dolls and American Girl dolls?

Trump's various tariffs and trade wars are hurting farmers, Alcoa, the auto industry, the motorcycle industry, the oil industry, solar panel companies, beverage companies.....and Trump is oblivious to the damage he's causing. Sad!
