Apple says their smartwatches will soon be able to function as walkie-talkies. I of course thought of this line from the 1995 movie Tommy Boy: "I can't hear you. You're trailing off. And did I catch a 'niner' in there? Were you calling from a walkie-talkie?" It's nice that Apple is finally bringing their technology up to the standards of 1945.

Here are the highlights from Apple's 2018 Worldwide Developers Conference

Sales of Apple iPhones are poorer than expected but investors needn't feel bad. A year ago, Apple shares were $145.42 and today they're $191.23.

Apple warns suppliers that iPhone demand is falling
    CNN Tech, Jun 8 2018 10:46 AM

Apple may be worried that its next iPhones won't be as popular as its last. The company has told suppliers to to manufacture 20% fewer components for its upcoming iPhones. That could signal it expects waning enthusiasm for its flagship smartphone. A year ago, Apple told suppliers to prepare for shipments of 100 million iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X devices. This year, Apple is taking a cautious approach, telling suppliers to prepare for 80 million iPhones. Apple is preparing to introduce three new iPhones in the fall.

Last week, Apple announced that the demand for iPhones is falling. This week, Apple announced plans to introduce three new iPhone models. Maybe next week, Apple will announce that this week's announcement doesn't make much sense in light of last week's announcement.

Apple is planning 3 new iPhone models this year
    Business Insider, Jun 15 2018

Apple is expected to release three new iPhone models in September. Two of the phones will be built around screens using OLED technology, the same type of display in the iPhone X. One will have an LCD screen, the type of display on the iPhone 8 and all previous iPhones. Electronics manufacturers say Apple expects the lower-cost LCD model to be the most popular.

This is an excellent idea. It will end situations such as "911. What is your emergency?" "I've been shot!" "Where are you?" "Uhhhh.......I don't know. Some big street."

Apple is making a small change to the way iPhones call 911
    Business Insider, Jun 18 2018

Starting later this year, the way iPhones contact 911 will subtly change in a way that could let emergency assistance find the caller faster and more easily.

Apple is teaming up with RapidSOS to include a new way to transfer location data to 911 call centers over the internet, building on the current system which was developed for landlines and uses older, phone-based data. The data provided to 911 centers includes information on location from cell towers as well as data from GPS and Wi-Fi networks.

Now, when an iPhone calls 911, location data within 50 meters will be routed to a RapidSOS dispatch center, which will pass it on to the local 911 center. The new feature could reduce response times in emergency situations.

The moral of this story: The family that shares together needs to beware together.

Chinese scammers are controlling people's Apple accounts
    Business Insider, Jun 27 2018

Scammers in China are hijacking people's Apple IDs and making purchases via an iPhone and Mac feature called "Family Sharing. The feature is designed to help families share apps and music but the scammers are using it to lock out the actual owner of the account and make in-app purchases and buy iTunes gift cards. To protect yourself, you should make sure you have two-factor authentication turned on for your Apple account. That means in order to log in, a password and user ID wouldn't be enough — a scammer would need a 6-digit code from your phone or another trusted device.

I love the idea of red and orange iPhones. Millions of people ignore the law and use phones while driving and the bright colors will make it easier for highway patrolmen to spot them.

I could say the big Mac problem has been fixed but I think a lot of people here don't really appreciate my bad puns.

Apple apologizes for MacBook Pro throttling 'bug' and releases a software fix
    Business Insider, Jul 24 2018

Apple is rolling out an update to the 2018 MacBook Pros that it says should fix the controversial overheating issue experienced by some users, including prominent tech YouTubers.

In a statement, Apple said, "Following extensive performance testing under numerous workloads, we've identified that there is a missing digital key in the firmware that impacts the thermal management system and could drive clock speeds down under heavy thermal loads on the new MacBook Pro. A bug fix is included in today's macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Supplemental Update and is recommended. We apologize to any customers who have experienced less than optimal performance on their new systems. Customers can expect the new 15-inch MacBook Pro to be up to 70% faster and the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar to be up to 2X faster, as shown in the performance results on our website."

The little business started 42 years ago in Steve Jobs' garage is now worth a trillion dollars! Apple was up 2.9% today (August 2) to close at $207.39. I wonder what kind of business I could start in my garage.

Apple is transitioning from wired headphones to wireless headphones. That is an excellent move. No iPhone user should be forced to use an accessory with such a ridiculous name as "dongle."

Apple's 2018 iPhones reportedly will not include headphone dongle
