Would it be appropriate to start chanting "Lock him up! Lock him up!"?

New York federal prosecutors seek interviews with Trump Organization executives
    CNN, Feb 5 2019 3:23 PM ET

Federal prosecutors in New York have requested interviews in recent weeks with executives at the Trump Organization, according to people familiar with the matter, signaling a growing potential threat to President Donald Trump and those in his orbit from criminal investigations by the Manhattan US Attorney's office.

Trump and his legal team have long harbored concerns that investigations by New York federal prosecutors -- which could last throughout his presidency -- may ultimately pose more danger to him, his family and his allies than the inquiry by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to people close to Trump. Prosecutors' recent interest in executives at Trump's family company may intensify those fears. The specific inquiry or topics of interest by prosecutors in any interviews with Trump Organization executives wasn't immediately clear.

Prosecutors are examining possible campaign-finance violations by executives at the Trump Organization during the company's effort to reimburse Michael Cohen for hush-money payments he made or orchestrated to silence women who claimed affairs with Trump. A second investigation concerns the Trump inaugural committee and possible financial abuses related to the more than $100 million in donations raised for his inauguration.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Trump "plans to call on the nation to 'choose greatness' in what he has said will be a unifying State of the Union address Tuesday night, even as the White House privately urged allies to use the occasion to attack Democrats — like the President himself did hours before the speech." O Hypocrisy, where is thy sting? O Unity, where is thy victory?

Trump's Teleprompter speech tonight included this thinly veiled message to the Democrats: "If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation." Yeah, those are the words of a man who is totally innocent of collusion, conspiracy, fraud, obstruction, misappropriation of funds and campaign finance violations, right? "I'm completely innocent. Just take my word for it. Do not investigate me! I'm warning you!"

This investigation will focus on Trump's finances and allegations that Russia, Saudi Arabia and other foreign entities have compromising information and leverage against him, forcing him to make policy decisions "in service of foreign interests." In last night's State Of The Union address, Trump declared, "There cannot be war and investigation." Trump, of course, did not write those words. Trump knows he's the target of several investigations -- by Robert Mueller, by Democrats, by the New York Attorney General, by the New York US Attorney and by the New York State Tax Board. The noose is tightening.

Donald Trump's response to Adam Schiff's announcement of an investigation into Trump's finances and Russia connections was immediate -- and, considering how many times he's denounced the Mueller investigation as a "witch hunt," was also very predictable. Speaking to reporters in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, Trump griped, "He has no basis to do that. He's just a political hack trying to build a name for himself. It's called Presidential harassment and it is unfortunate."

If, as Trump continues to insist, he is 100% innocent of collusion and obstruction and financial misdeeds, then what he is so afraid of?

Political leaders of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas have said there is no "border crisis," no "border emergency" and no need for The Trump Wall. Trump, of course, says otherwise. He doesn't believe his advisers, he doesn't believe US intelligence agencies, he doesn't believe US military leaders, he doesn't believe climate-change scientists -- he thinks he is always right and everyone else is always wrong. Well......no, that's not entirely true. Trump believes everything Vladimir Putin and Fox News tell him.

The squawking orange parrot and Tweeter-In-Chief was in his usual fine form this morning, accusing Democrats of "going nuts" and complaining that new investigations are "Unlimited Presidential Harassment" and "a continuation of Witch Hunt!" Republicans didn't launch investigations of Obama, Trump pointed out, seemingly oblivious to the reasons why he, not Obama, is the target of several criminal probes.

Letter from Noel Johnson of Glendale in today's Los Angeles Times:

"Trump suggested that the success of the economy is being threatened by 'partisan investigations.' Trump appointed Jeff Sessions, a Republican, as his attorney general. After Sessions' recusal due to his involvement in the 2016 campaign, his duties fell to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, also a Republican, who then appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel. Mueller, a lifelong Republican, had previously served as FBI director, appointed in 2001 by President George W. Bush, also a Republican. Where are the partisan Democrats?"

Honig, a CNN legal analyst and a former federal and state prosecutor, notes that Trump and his organization are the subjects of 17 investigations and the most damaging could be the probe into the $107,000,000 raised by the Trump Inaugural Committee: Where did all that money come from.......and where did it go?

    Trump's biggest nightmare isn't Mueller
Elie Honig, CNN Feb 7 2019 5:46 PM ET

This week, we learned that the Southern District of New York dropped an incendiary subpoena on President Donald Trump's inaugural committee seeking evidence of mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, conspiracy and illegal foreign contributions, and has requested interviews with Trump Organization executives. This is particularly bad news for Trump because, in many respects, the SDNY poses an even more potent threat than special counsel Robert Mueller.

As accomplished and respected as Mueller is, the SDNY has important structural advantages. While Mueller is limited by his appointment to investigating coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign (and matters that "arise directly" from such coordination), the SDNY has no substantive constraints and can go wherever the evidence leads.

Mueller faces political pressure from Trump and the Department of Justice to finish his investigation; the SDNY isn't going anywhere and can take whatever time it needs. And, unlike Mueller, the SDNY cannot be fired or defunded; sure, Trump could fire the US attorney for the SDNY but there will still be 150-plus apolitical career prosecutors ready to carry on.

Trump keeps insisting he will build a "big beautiful wall." There are already several lengths of wall along the US-Mexico border -- and none of them are "beautiful" -- especially this one:

Arizona town wants feds to remove razor wire from border wall that runs through its downtown -- or it will sue
    CNN, Feb 7 2019 7:06 PM

An Arizona town is condemning the federal government's use of razor wire on the border wall running through its downtown area as an "indiscriminate use of lethal force." The Nogales City Council passed the measure unanimously Wednesday night and included a threat to sue the federal government if it doesn't remove the wire. Nogales is a town of about 20,000 about an hour's drive from Tucson. The city's resolution comes as the Pentagon announced this week it is sending 3,750 additional US forces to the southwest border to support Customs & Border Protection. As part of that deployment, troops are placing 150 miles of concertina wire between ports of entry.
