The exodus continues. I wonder how many former Trump administration staffers have filled out résumés and written, "Well, I worked for Donald Trump for almost a month."

The exodus continues. Remember when newly-elected Donald Trump said he would hire "the best people"? Yeah, right.

Omarosa Manigault Newman became well known for her participation in Donald Trump's reality tv series The Apprentice and Celebrity Apprentice. Trump fired her from both programs. When he became President, he hired her as a communications director. After a year on the job, she was -- yes -- fired.

In her memoir, Unhinged: An Insider's Account Of The Trump White House, which went on sale August 14, Omarosa calls Trump a racist and a bigot. Trump responded by calling Omarosa a lowlife and a dog. (Several commentators believe Trump used "dog" as a euphemism for "bitch.") The White House press secretary said the book is "riddled with lies and false accusations" -- but she admitted she had not read the book.

The Hollywood Reporter details the major revelations in the book. And be warned: Because the book recounts the turmoil in the Trump White House, it -- and this article -- contains a lot of offensive language.

In January, Trump and his lawyers tried to stop publication of Michael Wolff's Fire & Fury: Inside The Trump White House. Now they're threatening legal action in an attempt to halt Omarosa's Unhinged book. Dictators have huge egos. Dictators work for their own good, not the good of the nation. Dictators do not believe in freedom of the press. Dictators attack those who disagree with them. Dictators try to silence their critics. Need I say more?

We're awaiting the jury's verdicts in the 18 criminal charges filed against Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. On September 17, Manafort will go on trial again, on charges of money laundering, foreign lobbying and lying to the FBI. Trump's longtime attorney is also embroiled in a criminal investigation, one that could have severe repercussions for Trump. Remember when Trump said he would surround himself with "the very best people"? Many have been fired, many have resigned, many have been indicted -- and these are the best?

Michael Cohen, Trump’s ex-lawyer, investigated for bank fraud in excess of $20 million
The New York Times, Aug 19 2018

Federal authorities investigating whether President Trump’s former personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen committed bank and tax fraud have zeroed in on well over $20 million in loans obtained by taxi businesses that he and his family own, according to people familiar with the matter.

Investigators are also examining whether Cohen violated campaign finance or other laws by helping to arrange financial deals to secure the silence of women who said they had affairs with Trump. The inquiry has entered the final stage and prosecutors are considering filing charges by the end of August.

Any criminal charges against Cohen would deal a significant blow to the President. Cohen worked for the President’s company, the Trump Organization, for more than a decade. He was one of Trump’s most loyal and visible aides and called himself the President’s personal lawyer after Trump took office.

At this late stage of the inquiry, it is still possible Cohen may plead guilty rather than face an indictment. He has hinted publicly and has stated explicitly in private that he is eager to tell prosecutors what he knows in exchange for leniency. A cooperation agreement would likely include a provision that Cohen also provide information special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible involvement by the Trump campaign in Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election.

Longtime Trump attorney Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to eight crimes, including violating campaign finance laws by, at the direction of Donald Trump, paying hush money to two women with whom Trump had affairs. (Trump reimbursed him for the payments. Faked invoices were created to hide where the money really went.) Cohen admitted he knowingly violated the law in an effort to influence the election. Trump, of course, initially lied, denying the affairs and denying any knowledge of the payments.

The publisher of the National Enquirer has a safe filled with damaging information about Trump's affairs and hush-money payments and he's been granted immunity so he can testify. A majority of Republicans stand by Trump no matter what he says or does. Eventually they will start turning against him or risk the Republican party being forever damaged. Not everyone is sticking by Trump, however:

Trump never released his tax returns as he promised to do, but the Trump Organization CFO knows all about Trump's taxes and finances and he will be giving details to a federal grand jury. Allen Weisselberg helped Michael Cohen set up the hush-money payments to women with whom Trump had affairs. Trump denied knowing anything about those payments but Cohen released an audiotape of Trump discussing the payments with him. Ooh, liar, liar, pants on fire! Because the payments and their cover-up violated campaign finance laws, criminal charges may be filed against Trump. Stay tuned.

Trump is slipping. In yesterday's and today's nasty tweets, he attacked Jeff Sessions, Robert Mueller, "angry" Democrats, Comey's "lies," "crooked Hillary" and her emails, and "Russian collusion by Dems" but he neglected his usual parrot-like squawk about the Russia investigation being a "rigged witch hunt." Well, there's always tomorrow.
