Trump is rolling back clean-air and clean-water regulations and trying to reduce the size of national parks and monuments so the land can be opened up to drilling and mining. Ryan Zinke does Trump's bidding. Thus:

Trump and Stalin both have called the news media "the enemy of the people." Trump goes even farther by constantly squawking like a parrot: "Fake news! Fake news! Fake news! Awwwkkk!"

Senator John McCain today echoed the comments made by Senator Flake, saying, "Trump has threatened to continue his attempt to discredit the free press by bestowing 'fake news awards' upon reporters and news outlets whose coverage he disagrees with. Whether Trump knows it or not, these efforts are being closely watched by foreign leaders who are already using his words as cover as they silence and shutter one of the key pillars of democracy. Trump’s attempts to undermine the free press also make it more difficult to hold repressive governments accountable. For decades, dissidents and human rights advocates have relied on independent investigations into government corruption to further their fight for freedom. But constant cries of 'fake news' undercut this type of reporting and strip activists of one of their most powerful tools of dissent."

We somehow managed to survive Donald Trump's tumultuous first year in office. Now a company is planning a tv series so we can relive that tumultuous year -- as if we didn't see enough of it every day on the nightly newscasts.

Fire & Fury to be adapted into TV series
    Variety, Jan 17 2018 11:37 AM

Michael Wolff’s Fire & Fury: Inside The Trump White House is being eyed for an adaptation into a television series. Endeavor Content has purchased the film and television rights to the book, which goes inside the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency. It largely portrays Trump as unprepared for the enormity of his office and asserts hat he is unable to focus his attention on policy details. The book also includes quotes from former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who referred to the 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer as "treasonous." Bannon eventually resigned his position at Breitbart News over the furor caused by his statements. The book proved to be an immediate best-seller and was sold out at bookstores in several major cities the day it was released. No studio is currently attached to the project. Wolff will serve as an executive producer on the project with former BBC executive Michael Jackson also producing.

Republican Congressmen are owned by the NRA and, no matter how many mass killings take place, will never support any gun-control legislation. They know that if they did so, the NRA would mount a campaign to remove them from office. Russian hackers used Facebook and other social media to help Trump get elected and now it seems Russia may have also helped fund the NRA's pro-Trump efforts.

Ben Roethlisberger was accused of rape in 2009 and again in 2010. It figures that he would be friends with Donald Trump.

Porn star Stormy Daniels says Trump made Ben Roethlisberger 'take care' of her after alleged sexual encounter
    Business Insider, Jan 19 2018 11:59 AM

Porn star Stormy Daniels says President Donald Trump had Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger take her back to her hotel room a day after her romp with the future president in 2006. Daniels made the comment in 2011 to InTouch, which published the full interview Friday. The comments were published after The Wall Street Journal reported that Daniels received $130,000 from Trump's lawyer just weeks prior to the 2016 election to keep quiet about the alleged encounter.

Daniels told the tabloid that the night after she hooked up with Trump, which she says happened at a Lake Tahoe celebrity golf tournament, she caught the Manhattan billionaire at a party with the the young Steelers quarterback, who was coming off of his first Super Bowl win. She said Trump "excused himself" and made Roethlisberger "promise to take care of me."

As Trump's first year in office ends, his support base has eroded and the opposition is energized
Los Angeles Times, Jan 19 2018 3:00 AM

Donald Trump began his presidency a polarizing figure; he ends his first year a beleaguered one. As the anniversary of Trump’s inauguration approaches on Saturday, the president’s support has eroded, his opposition has gained energy and his party faces bleak prospects for the midterm elections in November, according to a new USC-Dornsife/Los Angeles Times nationwide poll. Only 32% approved of Trump’s job performance, compared with 55% who disapproved and 12% who were neutral.

Widespread disapproval of Trump’s performance has also dragged down his party’s standing. Asked which party’s candidates they would favor if the congressional elections were being held today, 51% sided with the Democrats and only 40% for the Republicans. Democrats have held their own supporters better than Republicans have: Eight in 10 people who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 said they definitely would vote for a Democrat for Congress if the election were held now. Just two-thirds of people who voted for Trump had a similarly definite intention of voting for a Republican.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer complained today that every time Democrats and Republicans would get close to an agreement to avoid a government shutdown, Trump would rebuff the Democrats' call for action on DACA and refuse to approve any deal. From Chuck Schumer, here is the quote of the day for January 20:

"Negotiating with President Trump is like negotiating with Jell-O. It's impossible to negotiate with a constantly moving target."

More than 50,000 fake Twitter accounts were set up by Russians with the intent of ensuring that Trump, not Clinton, would win the Presidency. This is where the President will once again spout his usual parrot-like mantra: "Fake news! Fake news! Witch hunt! Witch hunt! Democratic hoax! Democratic hoax! Awwwkkk!"

Twitter: More than 677,000 U.S. users engaged with Russian troll accounts
    Politico, Jan 19 2018 06:16 PM

Twitter said Friday it is notifying 677,775 people in the U.S. who either followed, retweeted or liked a tweet from accounts of the Kremlin-linked troll farm known as the Internet Research Agency during the 2016 election period. The company also said that since briefing Congress in November, it has identified an additional 13,512 Russian-linked bot accounts that tweeted prior to the election, bringing the total to 50,258.

"Any such activity represents a challenge to democratic societies everywhere and we're committed to working on this important issue," Twitter wrote in a blog post. The company said it will share the account handles with congressional investigators looking at Russian interference in the election. Twitter offered several examples of Internet Research Agency content, including tweets with pro-Donald Trump images and slogans.

Friday's disclosure — 14 months after the 2016 election — is the latest sign that social media companies are still coming to grips with the extent of Russian activity on their platforms during the campaign. Intelligence experts, congressional investigators and others have concluded that Russian elements exploited Twitter and Facebook to distribute propaganda and misinformation during the 2016 campaign — much of it focused on damaging the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.
