Barack Obama invokes Hitler in warning against complacency and rising nativism
    Geobeats, Dec 7 2017 8:32 AM

Former President Barack Obama on Tuesday warned against staying complacent in the face of rising nativism, citing the rise of Hitler as an example of what can happen if democracy is not defended. "We have to tend to this garden of democracy or else things could fall apart quickly," Obama told the audience at the Economic Club of Chicago. "That’s what happened in Germany in the 1930s, which despite the democracy of the Weimar Republic and centuries of high-level cultural and scientific achievements, Adolph Hitler rose to dominate. Sixty million people died. So, you’ve got to pay attention. And vote."

Though Obama didn’t specifically mention anyone other than Hitler, the comments were largely interpreted as being directed towards President Trump.

Exclusive: Previously undisclosed emails show follow-up after Trump Tower meeting
Jim Sciutto, Manu Raju, Jeremy Herb, CNN, Dec 7 2017 4:55 PM ET

The British publicist who arranged the June 2016 meeting with Russians and Donald Trump Jr. sent multiple emails to a Russian participant and a member of Donald Trump's inner circle later that summer, sources told CNN, the first indication there was any follow-up after the meeting. The emails raise new questions for congressional investigators about what was discussed at Trump Tower. Trump Jr. has for months contended that after being promised he would get dirt on Hillary Clinton, the brief meeting focused almost exclusively on the issue of Russian adoptions, saying there was no discussion with the participants after that session.

The emails from the publicist, Rob Goldstone, were discovered by congressional investigators and raised at Wednesday's classified hearing with Trump Jr., who said he could not recall the interactions, several sources said. None of the newly disclosed emails were sent directly to Trump Jr. They are bound to be a subject during Goldstone's closed-door meetings with the House and Senate intelligence panels, which are expected to take place as early as next week.

An email from Goldstone to senior Trump aide Dan Scavino, now the White House director of social media, reveals a previously undisclosed topic that was discussed at the meeting. It encourages Scavino to get candidate Trump to create a page on the Russian social networking site VK, telling him that "Don and Paul" were on board with the idea -- a reference to then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Trump Jr. A CNN search of VK pages could not find any indication that such a page was ever set up.

Trump touts poll placing his approval rating at 45 percent
    Veuer, Dec 8 2017 7:03 PM

It seems almost every time a poll with good approval ratings for President Donald Trump is released, he makes sure to boast about the rating on Twitter. For example, last month a Rasmussen poll had Trump’s approval rating at 46 percent -- and he made sure everyone knew. It was a similar situation when a new Morning Consult and Politico poll came out Friday. He tweeted his latest approval rating of 45 percent, which is a slight increase compared to last week's poll that had his approval rating at 43 percent. What he didn’t tweet out was the fact that in the same poll, 51 percent disapproved of his job performance.
