Often I see a news headline that causes me to gasp and exclaim, "Wow, what a surprise!" This is definitely not one of those headlines:

Donald Trump's approval rating has dropped in every state since he was inaugurated

Yes indeed, just as he promised he would do, Donald Trump surrounds himself with "the finest people." Never mind all the hundreds who have resigned, been fired, been indicted or been arrested. Or this man:

EPA chief Andrew Wheeler engaged with racist, conspiratorial posts on social media
The Huffington Post, Oct 9 2018 3:19 PM

Andrew Wheeler, the acting administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, repeatedly engaged with inflammatory content on his personal Facebook and Twitter accounts over the past five years, including some in the past month. The previously-unreported interactions include liking a racist image of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on Facebook and retweeting an infamous "Pizzagate" conspiracy theorist.

The findings paint an embarrassing, if unsurprisingly partisan, picture of the 53-year-old former coal lobbyist and Republican aide. Wheeler has kept a significantly lower profile than his predecessor, Scott Pruitt, the disgraced agency chief whose resignation in July amid mounting scandals cleared the way for Wheeler’s promotion. The most incendiary interactions occurred before Wheeler, whose past social media activity has drummed up controversy before, became acting administrator. In an email to HuffPost today, Wheeler said he didn’t recall liking the image of the Obamas and clicked on tweets from conspiracy theorists without reviewing the source.

American Bridge 21st Century, a Democratic political action committee, first uncovered the social media posts, which HuffPost reviewed. In January 2013, Wheeler liked a photograph of the Obamas sitting at a sports game, depicted looking at a white person’s hand holding a banana. The image was posted by a page called Mia mamma è vergine, Italian for "My mom is a virgin," which posts memes and videos.

In July 2014, Wheeler joked that Hillary Clinton was in the Bible's apocalyptic predictions, a common right-wing trope painting the former secretary of state as demonic. In a comment under a post from the page Atheist Republic bemoaning Clinton's reverence for the Christian holy book, he wrote, "I think she's mentioned in the Book of Revelation right after the Four Horsemen."

In February, the personal Twitter account Wheeler has maintained since April 2009 retweeted Jack Posobiec, the right-wing provocateur who propagated the debunked "Pizzagate" conspiracy theory that Democratic elites operated a child sex ring at the Washington restaurant Comet Ping Pong. The theory became so popular by the end of 2016 that a 28-year-old man armed with an assault rifle stormed the pizzeria that December, threatening employees and customers.

Last month, Wheeler liked right-wing documentary filmmaker and former convict Dinesh D'Souza's tweet casting doubt over Christine Blasey Ford's sexual assault accusations against newly-confirmed Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. In August 2016, Wheeler publicly defended Milo Yiannopoulos after the alt-right troll was banned from Twitter for encouraging his fans to harass Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones.

A number of Trump administration officials have resigned over past bigoted remarks. The Reverend Jamie Johnson, the head of faith-based and neighborhood partnerships at the Department of Homeland Security, resigned last November after comments surfaced of him calling black people lazy and painting Islam as a violent, illegitimate religion. Carl Higbie, the face of the federal government's volunteer service AmeriCorps, stepped down in January after racist, sexist and other prejudiced remarks he made on the radio appeared on CNN. Ian Smith, another former Homeland Security policy analyst, quit in August after The Atlantic published leaked emails showing his ties to white-nationalist activists.

Letter from Frances Terrell Lippman of Sherman Oaks in today's Los Angeles Times:

"President Trump has no sense of shame but plenty of nerve. He actually stood there in the White House, apologizing "on behalf of our nation to Kavanaugh and his family for the terrible pain and suffering you have been forced to endure." Kavanaugh will have to endure being paid an annual salary of about $214,000 to hold his lifetime seat. He will help decide serious and life-changing issues that will affect Americans' lives for decades. He has already demonstrated his bias very loudly and belligerently.

Meanwhile, Christine Blasey Ford and others had the courage to come forward with their allegations of sexual misconduct at great risk to themselves. For this, they were made to feel as if they didn't matter. The apology is owed to Ford. She and the #MeToo movement are the real profiles in courage."

"Like father-in-law, like son-in-law." (See October 2 story on previous page.) Jared Kushner, a White House adviser and Trump's son-in-law, repeatedly padded numbers, falsified documents and overstated losses to avoid paying income taxes. Trump keeps calling Hillary Clinton "crooked" but in reality it is Trump and Kushner who are crooked.

So many firings. So many resignations. So many financial scandals. So many indictments. So many convictions. So many lies. So many threats. And Trump tells 60 Minutes that reports of chaos in the White House are "fake news." I guess we have to expect such a denial from the Fake President.

Donald Trump was a registered Democrat from 2001 to 2008, not enough time for him to destroy the Democratic party. He managed to destroy the Republican party after only a year of campaigning and a few months in office. Many high-profile Republicans, including Michael Cohen, Michael Bloomberg and former White House lawyer Richard Painter, as well as many thousands of Republican voters, are so appalled and disgusted by Trump, they're becoming Democrats. The "blue wave" is rising!

In the past year, Trump added $113,000,000,000 to the federal deficit -- but, goshdarnit, the wealthiest 1% of Americans really needed those huge tax cuts.

"A dog." "Very unattractive." "Horseface." "Miss Piggy." "A fat pig." "Lying." "Blood coming out of her wherever." "Bleeding badly from a face lift." "Crooked Hillary." "Grab 'em by the pussy." All these nasty insults, and many others, come from the President of the United States, who in 2016 declared during a debate with Clinton, "Nobody has more respect for women than I do" -- and the audience laughed. Michael Avenatti's assessment is 100% accurate: Trump is "a disgusting misogynist and an embarrassment to the United States."

Donald Trump is the type who would drive the wrong way on a one-way street and think everyone but him is going the wrong direction.

Trump tells AP he's not to blame if Republicans lose House
The Associated Press, Oct 16 2018

Facing the prospect of an electoral defeat that could imperil his presidency, President Donald Trump said today that he won't accept the blame if Republicans lose the House in November, arguing that he is "helping" Republican candidates in the midterms.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press, Trump also accused his longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen of "lying" under oath, defended his use of the derisive nickname "Horseface" for porn actress Stormy Daniels and argued that the widespread condemnation of the Saudis in the disappearance of a Washington Post columnist was a rush to judgment.

Democrats are hopeful about their chances to recapture the House, while Republicans are increasingly confident they can hold control of the Senate. If Democrats take the House and pursue impeachment or investigations — including seeking his long-hidden tax returns — Trump said he will "handle it very well."

At all the campaign rallies Trump has attended in the past few weeks, he says very little about immigration, health care, jobs, women's rights, crime, the environment or any other major issues which concern the American public. He mostly just tells the crowds, "Don't ever vote for Democrats. They're a dangerous and crazy mob that wants to take away your guns and let millions of illegals come here to rape and kill and sell drugs." Here is a USA TODAY editorial which addresses Trump's ridiculous rhetoric:

Calling Democrats a 'mob' shows how little the Republicans know about them
If you watch only Fox News, then you have no idea what Democrats really stand for.
