Donald Trump no longer leads his blindly loyal, immigrant-hating followers in chants of "Build the wall!" His chant is now "Finish the wall!" -- even though no new sections of wall have been built during the two years he's been President. Noting that "illegal migration is a fraction of what it used to be," Jeh Johnson joins a growing number of officials contradicting Trump's fear-mongering claim of a "border crisis."

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán was convicted yesterday on ten federal drug charges and prosecutors are trying to seize his $14 billion in drug profits and other assets. Cruz thinks the money should be used to build the unnecessary, expensive, ineffective Trump Wall. Well, I suppose that's one way to get Mexico to pay for it.

McCabe became acting director of the FBI after Trump fired James Comey. After three months, McCabe, too, was fired. Comey switched from Republican to independent in 2016. McCabe is a Republican. Current FBI director Christopher Wray is a Republican. Robert Mueller is a Republican. There goes Trump's "angry conflicted Democrats" theory. Trump's 'national emergency' just played the Democrats for suckers

Suckers! As predicted, President Trump plans to declare a national emergency in order to override parts of the deal Congressional negotiators struck when they hammered out a government funding bill for the remainder of fiscal 2019.
In a statement issued this afternoon, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, "President Trump will sign the government funding bill and, as he has stated before, he will also take other executive action — including declaring a national emergency — to ensure we stop the national security and humanitarian crisis at the border."
Exactly what steps the President will take have yet to be revealed, but it seems certain that he will shift dollars from previously approved projects into his "big, beautiful wall" — which is where the sucker part comes in. By declaring a national security emergency where none exists — remember, arrests at the border are far lower than they were a decade ago — Trump will seize the federal purse and, presumably, write himself a giant check for the border wall. Trump is trying to give himself a veneer of constitutionality by using his almost unlimited power to declare a national emergency. But there's no getting around the fact that he is doing so to circumvent Congress' exclusive power to spend federal dollars.
With some luck, federal judges will see through the pretext and stop Trump's effort to usurp lawmakers' authority. If they don't, Trump will have found a way to play Congress for suckers from now until he leaves the Oval Office.

Donald Trump tweeted those words on November 20, 2014, in response to Obama taking several "executive actions" to crack down on illegal immigration. Of course now that Trump is President, subverting the Constitution is just fine 'n' dandy. After all, The Trump Wall is infinitely more important than some silly old document written in 1787.

Hundreds of lawsuits have been brought against the Trump administration in the past two years. Many have been successful. If Trump fulfills his vow to declare a "border emergency" tomorrow, many more lawsuits will be filed. He knows he won't get the $5.7 billion of US taxpayers' money that he's demanding for construction of The Trump Wall and hardly anyone other than Mitch McConnell thinks he should declare an "emergency" -- but Trump will do so, even if he knows it will be challenged in court. He will then be able to tell his immigrant-hating followers, "Hey, look, I tried to get money for the wall, okay?" Thus -- he hopes -- his base will not regard him as weak and a promise breaker.
