The New York Times has caught the President in another lie -- a lie which, sadly, his supporters will probably believe.

    FACT CHECK OF THE DAY
Trump falsely claims GDP growth is higher than unemployment 'for the first time in 100 years'
It has happened 185 times since 1948.

The results of this poll are not surprising. Trump will probably denounce CNN and the poll as "fake news" -- and that won't be surprising, either.

Donald Trump, who lives in his own little world, a world devoid of reality, continues to insist his response to the devastation in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria hit last September was "incredible," even though he did very little other than to criticize the San Juan mayor and the utility company and to throw a few rolls of paper towels to relief workers.

Now Trump is dismissing a George Washington University analysis which blames 2,975 deaths on the hurricane. Trump says there were no more than 18 deaths (which is not so) and he blamed Democrats -- Democrats! -- for coming up with the higher number to make him "look bad" (which is also not so -- and, anyway, Trump needs no help in making himself look bad).

Garret Ventry, an aide to Senator Chuck Grassley who had been coordinating the Senate Judiciary Committee's response to the sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, has resigned over sexual harassment allegations. Oh the irony! Memo to American women: Do not vote for Republicans in November.

Two days ago we earned that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein considered secretly recording his conversations with Trump and considered using the 25th Amendment to get Trump out of office. Advisers are warning Trump against firing Rosenstein before the November elections. The Secretary of State has a differing view. We can refer to these as "dueling headlines":

Donald Trump wants "openness" and "transparency"? Wow, when did that start? Here is the latest update from that "smooth-running machine" (as Trump describes the White House):

Rosenstein to meet with Trump Thursday
    CNN, Sep 24 2018 3:27 PM ET

President Donald Trump will meet with Rod Rosenstein Thursday after the deputy attorney general went to the White House today expecting to be fired. Rosenstein met with chief of staff John Kelly and spoke with Trump, who is in New York for the United Nations General Assembly and meeting with foreign leaders. "I'm meeting with Rod Rosenstein on Thursday when I get back from all of these meetings," Trump said. "We'll be meeting at the White House and we'll be determining what's going on. We want to have transparency, we want to have openness." If Rosenstein leaves, his departure would spark immediate questions about the long-term job security of special counsel Robert Mueller. Noel Francisco, the solicitor general, would take on oversight of Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Donald Trump said he would surround himself with the best people. Donald Trump said he would be "winning" so much that we'd become tired of all the winning. Donald Trump said the White House is a "smooth-running machine." Ya know what? I don't think any of those claims are true. Doy!

Trump is now facing a second lawsuit -- The attorneys general of Maryland and DC filed the first one -- for violating the emoluments clause which prohibits payments from foreign governments without the consent of Congress. Trump's hotels, office buildings and golf courses benefit from foreign spending and investment. And whatever happened to those tax returns he promised to release?

Donald Trump has always claimed to be a "self-made man" who borrowed only a million dollars from his father and soon paid it back. He was lying. Trump and his siblings set up phony corporations so they could get a billion dollars of their parents' money while avoiding 95% of the taxes. And now we know why Donald Trump never released his tax returns as he said he would do. Not even Fox News, a.k.a. The Trump Fan Club, can support him and defend him on these latest revelations.

"You've paid nothing in federal taxes," said Hillary Clinton to Donald Trump during their Presidential debate September 26, 2016. Trump's reply: "That makes me smart." He may wind up being the smartest tax evader in federal prison.

Because of the statute of limitations, criminal charges cannot be brought against Donald Trump for tax fraud. Civil cases, however, have no such limitation. Get your checkbook ready, Donald!

Arizona Senator Jeff Flake is one of the very few Republicans who don't blindly worship at the altar of Emperor Trump. I urge all registered voters to go to the polls November 6 and vote for candidates who will serve our nation and not just their political party.

Biden slams GOP's 'cultish devotion' to Trump as he stumps for California Democrats
Los Angeles Times, Oct 4 2018 8:25 PM

Former Vice President Joe Biden accused President Trump’s Republican allies in Congress of choosing "party over country" as he campaigned in Orange County for Democrats running for the US House.

"The truth itself is being thrown aside in favor of a cultish devotion to the whims of one man," Biden told hundreds of campaign volunteers today at a Cal State Fullerton rally, citing the confirmation hearings of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. "Look at the behavior of Republican senators during the recent testimony of Judge Kavanaugh. Look at the behavior of this president every day. Lies have never been more brazen. Blind rage and brute partisanship have never been more palpable."

Biden, a leading contender for his party’s 2020 presidential nomination, was joined by four Democrats running in Orange County — Gil Cisneros, Katie Porter, Harley Rouda and Mike Levin — and another, TJ Cox, who is trying to unseat Republican Rep. David Valadao in the San Joaquin Valley.

Biden framed the November 6 midterm election as a "battle for America's soul," urging voters to put a check on the president. "Here’s the good news: The folks standing with me here today, in a Democratically controlled Congress, are going to be able to take this president on," said Biden, who served 36 years in the Senate.

California is one of the nation’s main election battlegrounds as Democrats try to pick up the 23 seats needed to take control of the House. Their targets include seven now held by Republicans in districts that Trump lost in the 2016 presidential election.

Biden also berated Trump for his equivocation last year when neo-Nazis marched in Charlottesville and chanted "the same exact anti-Semitic bile heard in the streets of Nuremberg in the '30s." He went on to conflate their ideology with Trump administration policies: "Years ago, they stood like cowards behind sprays of fire hoses and flames of burning crosses. Today, they call refugees animals, they prop up immigrants as a source of all our problems and they abide the sight of infants being ripped from the arms of their mothers on the border."
