The 13th Floor Elevators formed in 1965 in Austin and released four albums and seven singles before breaking up in 1969 after Roger "Roky" Erickson was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. (Too much LSD, I'd say.) Their first single, You're Gonna Miss Me, reached #55 on the Hot 100 in October 1966. In the early 1980s, Erickson released two albums with his new group The Aliens. He also recorded solo.

Bongo Rock reached #14 on the Hot 100 in June 1959. A year later, Epps reached #78 with Bongo Bongo Bongo. He released several more singles including Blue Bongo, Bongo Hop, Bongo Boogie, Bongo Shuffle and Bongos In Pastel but never had another chart hit. Obviously, where record buyers were concerned, two bongo records were more than enough. Epps also played on Say Yeah, a 1965 single by Andre Franklin.
