The Four Seasons formed in 1955 in Newark. They were originally known as the Variatones and changed their name to the Four Lovers in 1956. They became the Four Seasons in 1961, taking their name from a local bowling alley. They had 31 top-40 hits, 15 top tens and five number ones (Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry, Walk Like A Man, Rag Doll, December 1963).
