House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants the whistleblower who informed the Inspector General of Trump's phone call to Ukraine's President to testify before Congress. She warns that if Trump refuses to let him testify, just as he's ordered many of his aides to ignore subpoenas and refuse to testify, the Trump administration "will be entering a grave new chapter of lawlessness which will take us into a whole new stage of investigation." Saying Trump's "outrageous and obscene behavior" threatens the rule of law, former Vice President Al Gore is calling for an impeachment investigation. He is not alone.

Weld, a former Governor of Massachusetts, notes that the penalty for treason is death (per the US Code) or removal from office (per the Constitution). Well, Bill, whichever penalty is carried out would boost your chance of winning the GOP nomination – but I don't think either one is likely.

The President's GOP rival says Trump's phone call with Ukraine goes beyond "undermining democratic institutions."

Emperor Trump displays a "profound disregard for Presidential norms," says a former Watergate prosecutor. Trump's continual abuse of power shows Trump believes himself to be above the law and he's becoming increasingly defiant. Asking Ukraine's President to help him defeat a political rival? No big deal, Trump declares. "I'm the Emperor! I do whatever benefits me!"

Analysis: Instead of 'No collusion!' Trump now seems to be saying, so what if I did?

House Democrats are considering forming a committee to investigate Emperor Trump's attempt to enlist a foreign power to help him politically. The findings could lead to impeachment proceedings. New York Representative Antonio Delgado said today, "The first responsibility of the President of the United States is to keep our country safe but it has become clear that our President has placed his political interests above the securiry of our nation. I believe articles of impeachment are warrented."

"I think it's ridiculous. It's a witch hunt," Emperor Trump told reporters today, using one of his favorite expressions. "I'm leading in the polls" – a false statement – "and they [Democrats] have no idea how they stop me. The only way they can try is through impeachment. This has never happened to a President before." – another false statement.

Four hundred five days till Election Day.

CNN has released its 21st monthly "power ranking" of the Democrats most likely to win the 2020 Presidential nomination. Biden, Warren and Sanders remain at the top. Kamala Harris has dropped from fourth to fifth. She's not even doing well in her home state of California, which holds its Democratic primary on March 3. A California Public Policy Institute poll released yesterday shows 23% of likely voters support Warren. Biden has 22%, Sanders has 21% – and Harris has 8%. Time to drop out of the race, Kamala.

In 2016, Trump asked Russia to locate Hillary's missing emails. This year, he's urged both Ukraine and China to dig up dirt on Joe Biden, his likely rival in the 2020 election. Trump also sought the Australian Prime Minister's help in discrediting the Mueller investigation. Seeking the help of foreign leaders for his own political gain is a severe abuse of power. Add to that all his efforts to keep details of his phone calls with Putin and Zelensky secret; his efforts to halt investigations by firing Comey, McGahn and other officials; his orders that White House officials ignore subpoenas; and his praise for Putin, Kim, bin Salman, Xi Jinping and other dictators. Trump is facing impeachment for abuse of power, obstruction of justice and several other charges and he's lashing out at everyone involved. Trump is hoping an impeachment helps his chances of re-election. Biden, meanwhile, is taking advantage of Trump's deranged mental state.
