I'm starting to think that everyone who ran for President in 2000, 2004, 2018, 2012 and 2016 and lost and is still alive is going to be running again in 2020.

The people of New England aren't waiting for Beto O'Rourke to decide if he'll run for President in 2020. They've decided for him. They believe O'Rourke is the man who can "move our country past four years of turmoil and bigotry" and they've launched https://draftbeto2020.org

Trump's presidency has awakened many who were only minimally interested in Dem politics in the past. The urge among all now is to make right what Trump has damaged, and is, understandably, strong.

But, our emotions can prevent us from seeing clearly. The DNC is banking on it.

Sanders is the only proven progressive. The rest who have expressed interest are typical DNC types regardless of the noises they make. Many have histories that are seriously suspect. Biden has said, "I am no Bernie Sanders."

Those types are not what we need.

These times require extraordinary caution when trying to make the best decision not less. The country's future really does depend on it.

Memo to NBC's headline writer: California and Texas will not "become the new Iowa and New Hampshire." They will always be California and Texas. Doy!

2020 Democratic primary: California and Texas look to become the new Iowa and New Hampshire
    NBC News, Dec 9 2018 4:59 AM

A little over a year from now, millions of Californians will be mailed their ballots on the same day that Iowans head to their famous first-in-the-nation Presidential caucuses. They could start mailing them back before New Hampshire holds its first-in-the-nation primary in 2020. Meanwhile, Texans will have a chance to vote early, too — even before Nevada and South Carolina, which typically round out the earliest portion of the primary calendar.

The explosion of early voting and reshuffling of the primary calendar in 2020 could transform the Democratic Presidential nominating contest, potentially diminishing the power of the traditional, tiny and homogeneous early states in favor of much larger and more diverse battlegrounds. That would be a boon to the best-known candidates with war chests sizable enough to compete in big states early and it would empower black and Hispanic voters in large, multiracial states such as California.

Iowa helped catapult a Georgia peanut farmer named Jimmy Carter to the White House, while New Hampshire did the same for Bill Clinton, who was little known outside his native Arkansas. This time, however, the two biggest states in the country, California and Texas, will for the first time vote on the same day — March 3, "Super Tuesday." That's exactly one month after Iowa's caucuses on February 3 and three weeks past New Hampshire's primary on February 11.

Since both Texas and California have a robust culture of early voting — nearly six-in-10 California Democratic voters cast a ballot by mail in the 2016 Presidential primary — the contests for both delegate-rich states will start even earlier. Well-financed campaigns will take advantage of every opportunity they can get and are likely to begin organizing in California in 2019.

O'Rourke is popular among donors and activists but Democrats gained 40 House seats by appealing to women and minorities and many political observers feel Democrats should not nominate a white male in 2020. California Senator and former Attorney General Kamala Harris is the daughter of a Tamil mother and Jamaican father. Hmmm.

James Comey, who today denounced Trump for his lies and his character and called Trumpism an "attack on our values," doesn't want Trump impeached; he just wants Trump out of office. Comey wants to see a Democrat win the 2020 Presidential race by a "landslide" -- and Comey is a Republican!

Julian Castro still has not announced he's running for President in 2020 -- but his twin brother Joaquin announced it for him.
