Another California fire is raging out of control. The Klamathon Fire -- who the heck comes up with these dumb names? -- started in Siskiyou County near the Oregon border. It jumped the I-5 freeway and the Klamath River and quickly burned 8,000 acres. It is only 5% contained tonight.

At least 20 structures have been destroyed in the Goleta fire and at least 16 structures have been destroyed in the Alpine fire in San Diego county. The only gold in the so-called Golden State now is the color of the flames of all the wildfires.

We now know what caused the huge fire in Yolo and Napa counties. How about enacting a ban on electrified fences? Chain link and barbed wire will work just fine -- and will not spark fires.

Tonight there are 56 -- fifty-six! -- large wildfires burning throughout the United States. The majority are in the West and 11 are in California. The huge out-of-control blaze near Yosemite has now burned more than 3,800 acres and forced evacuations of the Cedar Lodge and nearby communities. A few people think California should be split into three states -- but with all the fires, floods, mudslides, drought and earthquakes, there soon may be nothing left to split!
