Another California fire is raging out of control. The Klamathon Fire -- who the heck comes up with these dumb names? -- started in Siskiyou County near the Oregon border. It jumped the I-5 freeway and the Klamath River and quickly burned 8,000 acres. It is only 5% contained tonight.

Yesterday was Southern California's hottest day of the year -- so far -- and fires broke out near Goleta, at Camp Pendleton, in the San Bernardino mountains and (several) in San Diego County. Yikes!

At least 20 structures have been destroyed in the Goleta fire and at least 16 structures have been destroyed in the Alpine fire in San Diego county. The only gold in the so-called Golden State now is the color of the flames of all the wildfires.

Jurassic Park, La La Land, Love & Mercy, The Rocketeer, The Terminator, Rebel Without A Cause and many other movies and television shows have been filmed in part at the Griffith Park Observatory in the hills north of Los Angeles. Today the observatory appeared on local newscasts:

We now know what caused the huge fire in Yolo and Napa counties. How about enacting a ban on electrified fences? Chain link and barbed wire will work just fine -- and will not spark fires.

The latest California fire is near El Portal in Mariposa County. Just a few minutes ago, KFSN-Channel 30 in Fresno reported that the fire has quickly burned 1,000 acres and is only 5% contained.

Tonight there are 56 -- fifty-six! -- large wildfires burning throughout the United States. The majority are in the West and 11 are in California. The huge out-of-control blaze near Yosemite has now burned more than 3,800 acres and forced evacuations of the Cedar Lodge and nearby communities. A few people think California should be split into three states -- but with all the fires, floods, mudslides, drought and earthquakes, there soon may be nothing left to split!

CalFire just updated the grim numbers on the Ferguson fire burning near Yosemite: 9,266 acres have burned and the fire is only 2% contained. Yikes!
