In 2016, Trump and the Republicans seemed to have only one goal: to undo everything Barack Obama did. Trump promised to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a "beautiful" new healthcare plan. He failed to do so. Two weeks ago, a district judge ruled that since Americans are no longer required to buy insurance, the entire Affordable Care Act has to be scrapped. His decision was widely criticized by legal experts -- and his decision may wind up hurting the Republican party.

After years of assailing Obamacare, some Republicans now fear the political fallout
Los Angeles Times, Dec 28 2018 4:20 PM

Republicans in Congress, fresh off an election that punished their party for opposing healthcare protections, now worry that a recent federal court ruling undermining Obamacare could give Democrats new ammunition for 2020 and they’re scrambling to thwart any attacks. Particularly in the Senate, some Republicans want to prove to voters that they will protect popular benefits mandated by President Obama’s signature 2010 law, especially insurance coverage for people with preexisting medical conditions. They are eager to neutralize an issue that Democrats effectively used in the midterm election to gain a net 40 House seats and take control of the chamber.

House Democrats are considering legislation making minor changes to the healthcare law and undoing some Trump administration regulations, notably one allowing health plans that don’t adhere to Obamacare’s coverage requirements — "junk plans," critics call them, because insurers can drop patients when they get sick. Healthcare is "the number one issue for the electorate and the number one wedge issue between Republicans and Democrats," said Democratic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut. "Do Republicans really want to gift us with this issue for the next two years?"

Federal District Judge Reed O'Connor ruled on December 14 that since Americans are no longer required to buy insurance, the entire Affordable Care Act is invalid. How he reached that conclusion is beyond my ken. (There's a nice old-fashioned phrase.) O'Connor's decision is being appealed. Today a judge ruled that the ACA shall remain in place during the appeal process. That judge is.......Reed O'Connor.

Healthcare tops the list in almost every poll asking voters what they believe is our nation's most important issue -- so why are Trump and the Republicans stil trying to get rid of the Affordable Care Act? I know they want to undo everything Obama did -- but that's not a good reason.

When he was running for President, Trump promised to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a "beautiful" new healthcare plan. He never had any "beautiful" plan -- it was just another empty promise. This month, Trump has renewed his pledge to get rid of the Affordable Care Act -- and he still has no new healthcare plan. The courts are not taking kindly to Trump's attempts to sabotage the ACA.

Here is further proof that Trump and the Republicans still have no real policy other than trying to undo, cancel and reverse everything Obama did. Most Americans don't want the Affordable Care Act abolished but Trump and the Republicans don't care what Americans want. Whatever Obama created has to be destroyed.

King Donald the First keeps trying – and failing – to chip away at provisions of the Affordable Care Act. You're familiar with the Affordable Care Act? It was created in 2010 by President Obama to expand access to healthcare and control healthcare costs while providing better care. King Donald promised to abolish it and replace it with a "beautiful new healthcare plan." That, of course, was just another one of his lies.

The Affordable Care Act has now survived three – count 'em, three – challenges in the Supreme Court.

Trump was wrong about the law, Obamacare politics and his judges
Analysis: The former President promised that his Supreme Court picks would overturn the Affordable Care Act. He met the court's ruling with the deafening silence of defeat.
