President Obama Brings Facts to Romney and Ryan

And by bolstering his case, the president was able to also pack more punch when he pivoted to broader arguments:

What leaders in both parties have traditionally understood is that [government] investments aren't part of some scheme to redistribute wealth from one group to another…These investments benefit us all. They contribute to genuine, durable economic growth…
It doesn't make us weaker when we guarantee basic security for the elderly or the sick or those who are actively looking for work. What makes us weaker is when fewer and fewer people can afford to buy the goods and services our businesses sell, or when entrepreneurs don't have the financial security to take a chance and start a new business. What drags down our entire economy is when there's an ever- widening chasm between the ultrarich and everybody else.

The above is yet another example of "low effort" thinking.

Conservative Politics, 'Low-Effort' Thinking Linked In New Study

Conservatives and liberals don't seem to agree about much, and they might not agree about recent studies linking conservatism to low intelligence and "low-effort" thinking.

As The Huffington Post reported in February, a study published in the journal "Psychological Science" showed that children who score low on intelligence tests gravitate toward socially conservative political views in adulthood--perhaps because conservative ideologies stress "structure and order" that make it easier to understand a complicated world.

    Ouch.

And now there's the new study linking conservative ideologies to "low-effort" thinking.

"People endorse conservative ideology more when they have to give a first or fast response," the study's lead author, University of Arkansas psychologist Dr. Scott Eidelman, said in a written statement released by the university.

Does the finding suggest that conservatives are lazy thinkers?

"Not quite," Dr. Eidelman told The Huffington Post in an email. "Our research shows that low-effort thought promotes political conservatism, not that political conservatives use low-effort thinking."

For the study, a team of psychologists led by Dr. Eidelman asked people about their political viewpoints in a bar and in a laboratory setting.

Bar patrons were asked about social issues before blowing into a Breathalyzer. As it turned out, the political viewpoints of patrons with high blood alcohol levels were more likely to be conservative than were those of patrons whose blood alcohol levels were low.

But it wasn't just the alcohol talking, according to the statement. When the researchers conducted similar interviews in the lab, they found that people who were asked to evaluate political ideas quickly or while distracted were more likely to express conservative viewpoints.

"Keeping people from thinking too much...or just asking them to deliberate or consider information in a cursory manner can impact people's political attitudes, and in a way that consistently promotes political conservatism," Dr. Eidelman said in the email.

The study was published online in the journal "Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin."

Good one Mr. Film School lol. When you can pass 8 credits of Physical Chemistry, then come talk to me about "low effort thinking". It won't happen in your lifetime, ever. Sorry.

Having studied some Physical Chemistry doesnt have anything to do with whether or not one is susceptible to Conservative Republican talking points. Thats a perfect example of "low effort" thinking. And having Peter Schiff as an investment advisor and favorite economic theorist is certainly an example of some "low effort" thinking as well.

I studied Pollitical Science, Psychology, Philosophy,Calculus, Biology, Art History, Cinema theory, etc in College (a good one at that). A liberal arts education is a well rounded one certainly. Most certainly NOT a "low effort" thinker.

No it has to do with comprehending very complicated material. It trains you.

You most certainly are a low effort thinker. Just taking what the liberal left gives and running with is most certainly low effort. I've made several points that deviate from the right - gay marriage, exempting income tax for those who reconcile for net zero paid at the end of the year, increasing SS tax cap from $106,800 just to name a few.

You are such a low effort thinker that accused me of "stealing" the idea of extempting those that really don't pay income tax.

The arrogance of attempting to compare an MFA in Cinema (and a B.A. major in Political Science) to 8 credits of Physical Chemistry makes one look like a "low effort" thinker. Sad. The guy has obviously never studied Philosophy, Psychology, and all the rest. Too afraid I quess. For all we know he had a C average. lol.

    Anyway...

    This is one study. Interesting.

Physical Chemistry is the most diffucult part of the ENTIRE Chemistry cirriculum......

I did have a C average. C+ actually, but I wasn't one of the 65% who didn't make it. No arrogance at all. Just a fact. In grad school for business the difference between guys like you and guys like me was really apparent. All because of having to really think FACTUALLY and LOGICALLY.

Peter Schiff. Logic and factuality? HILARIOUS. CASE CLOSED.

The anatomy of a Mitt Romney lie
    byJed Lewison

Mitt Romney: A sleazy salesman who doesn't respect his customers (Brian Snyder/Reuters)
Mitt Romney's meaningless 92.3 percent statistic about women and job losses has been thoroughly debunked pretty much everywhere, but let's take one last look at his original statement:
There's been some talk about a war on women. The real war on women has been waged by the Obama administration's failure on the economy. Do you know what percentage of job losses during the Obama years of have been casualties of women losing jobs as opposed to men? Do you know how many women, what percent of the job losses were women? 92.3 percent of the job losses during the Obama years have been women who've lost those jobs.
In large part because of its absurdity, Romney's misleading 92.3 percent claim became the focus of attention after he delivered his remarks. When you reread his original statement, however, it's clear that the bogus statistic wasn't really the main thing he hoped to communicate. Rather, he offered it as evidence to support his core accusation: that "the real war on women has been waged by" President Obama.
As it turns out, the 92.3 percent stat failed to provide any support whatsoever for that claim—even though it was technically accurate. That's important: Romney's 92.3 percent claim wasn't itself a lie, rather it was a meaningless factoid offered in an attempt to mislead his audience about something else. That's a time-honored tactic of unethical salesmen, and the fact that Mitt Romney decided to take such a sleazy approach to the issue is a pretty big clue that he was in the middle of telling a pants-on-fire lie.

Sure enough, that's exactly what it was. Mitt Romney and his Republican Party are waging an all-out assault on Planned Parenthood, birth control coverage, reproductive rights, and even Obamacare's guarantee that women won't be charged more for insurance than men just because they can get pregnant. That's what you call a real war on women. It's being led by Romney and the Republicans. And when they blame it on President Obama, that's a lie.

So what issues have you taken a more "central" position on?
