    Obama Derangement Syndrome
A new Harris poll that reveals some shocking things about how Republican voters view President Obama.

    Key findings:

67% believe Obama is a socialist.
57% believe Obama is a Muslim.
38% believe Obama is "doing many of the things that Hitler did."
24% believe Obama "may be the Antichrist."
"It demonstrates the cost of the campaign of fear and hate that has been pumped up in the service of hyper-partisanship over the past 15 months. We are playing with dynamite by demonizing our president and dividing the United States in the process. What might be good for ratings is bad for the country."

The Washington Times' Year Of Obama Derangement Syndrome
    December 29, 2011 9:50 am ET — 65 Comments
Few right-wing media outlets suffer more from Obama Derangement Syndrome than The Washington Times. Media Matters takes a look back at the Times' most outlandish, bizarre, and inflammatory attacks on President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama of 2011.

    OSAMA BIN LADEN'S DEATH

Wash. Times: Bin Laden "Outmaneuvered" Obama With Taped Message. In a May 19 editorial, The Washington Times wrote that Osama bin Laden "outmaneuvered" President Obama, writing that bin Laden's "final taped message was an eerie refutation of President Obama's major Middle East policy address. Even in death, bin Laden launched a surprise attack with impeccable timing." The Times further claimed that the words of bin Laden's taped message "could easily have tracked across Mr. Obama's teleprompter." [The Washington Times, 5/20/11, via Media Matters]

Wash. Times' Green: "Obama To Allah: Pardon Osama." In a May 6 column headlined, "Obama to Allah: pardon Osama," Washington Times assistant editorial page editor Anneke Green attacked Obama over the administration's decision to treat bin Laden's body in accordance with Islamic custom while burying him at sea by claiming that Obama "is more concerned about placating the feelings of Muslim extremists than closure for the American people." Green further wrote that "[t]he subsequent handling of the body and burial ... raises serious questions about Mr. Obama's dominant priority." [The Washington Times, 5/6/11, via Media Matters]

Washington Times' Miller Complained That "Obama Golfs While Troops Hunt Osama Bin Laden." In a May 2 Washington Times column, senior opinions editor Emily Miller complained that "[w]hile the president was playing golf, the highly-trained U.S. special forces were en route to bin Laden's fortified compound." From The Washington Times:

Capturing Sept. 11 terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden has been the nation's top national-security priority for 10 years, but carrying out the final kill didn't stop President Obama from playing golf on Sunday. In a tiny concession to his job requirements as commander in chief, Mr. Obama cut his golf game short by nine holes in order to get back to the White House to monitor the final moments as Navy SEALs killed bin Laden in Pakistan.

    [...]

While the president was playing golf, the highly-trained U.S. special forces were en route to bin Laden's fortified compound. "The high walls, security features, suburban location and proximity to Islamabad made this an especially dangerous operation," said a senior administration official after the killing. "The men who executed this mission accepted this risk, practiced to minimize those risks and understood the importance of the target to the national security of the United States."

Rick Perry thinks defeating Obama is like defeating Hitler
    byHunter

Did you know that stopping Obama from doing something-something-something is like the Revolutionary War, or is like fighting Hitler? You didn't? Oh, my bad, you must not be completely freaking insane.
With a sense of history on the biggest political day -- to date -- of the 2012 cycle, Texas Gov. Rick Perry today compared the GOP's quest to defeat President Barack Obama to one of the deadliest battles of the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944.
"This election is about stopping a president of the United States and his administration that is abusing the Constitution of this country, that is putting America on a track to bankruptcy," Perry told a hotel ballroom packed with more than 200 volunteers.

"It is a powerful moment in Americans' history, and you are on the front lines," he added. "This is Concord. This is Omaha Beach. This is going up the hill realizing that the battle is worth winning."

If I was an Iowa voter, the only thing I would have learned for certain from this campaign cycle is that Republican politicians are all convinced that I'm a complete idiot.

I don't know what new drug these candidates are huffing in order to come up with their fever dreams about how weak stimulus packages and instituting piecemeal reforms to try to stop certain abuses by health insurance providers is Just Like Hitler, but whatever it is we should ban it pronto. The mental damage it causes seems to be severe.

The Big Lie vs. Barack Obama (Part 1)

President Barack Obama is routinely described as being a "Muslim-Marxist" or "Muslim-Communist" or "Muslim-Socialist."
I am often asked why we have heard or read for over two years the same lies about President Barack Obama. I have tried to explain that the Big Lie Technique is successful only if it is relentlessly repeated. Any lie heard often enough becomes “the truth.” Since WWII, the Republicans have mastered the art of the Big Lie, from Richard Nixon to the neoconservatives’ use of the philosophy of Leo Strauss. Today, I would like to comment on only two of the recurring Big Lies.

Big Lie Number 1: Barack Hussein Obama is a Muslim. If your parents gave you a middle name like that of the former dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, you must be a Muslim. In fact, if we weren’t a nation of immigrants, Obama’s whole name might sound “un-American.” You can see how easily it would be to fool uninformed, angry, and frightened people.

The philosophy of Leo Strauss has been the dominant influence of the Republican neoconservatives who have dominated the party for thirty years. He believed the masses could be controlled by religion, perpetual war, and the Big Lie.
New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof blames himself for causing so many reactionaries to claim that President Obama is a Muslim. Mr. Kristof wrote a column about his interview with the then-future president. He included what he thought was a poignant story, in which Mr. Obama recalled an experience of his youth in Indonesia: the Muslim morning call to prayer that he heard nearly every day was so beautiful that he could still remember it. Mr. Kristof instantly regretted that the whole story got deliberately distorted.

Many of us remember that White House chief of staff Donald Regan complained about having to schedule Ronald Reagan’s trips and speeches around Reagan’s horoscope – Nancy had an astrologer, Joan Quigley, that she and the president relied on. Maybe we should ask Rahm Emanuel whether he has to schedule Mr. Obama’s daily itinerary around his numerous required Muslim prayer rituals.

I’m aware of no one who has known or worked with our president who thinks he is a Muslim. Even John McCain during the 2008 presidential campaign had to take the microphone from a pathetic woman who insisted Obama was a Muslim. Senator McCain tried to straighten her out, but I fear he may as well have been talking to the back wall.
Richard Nixon built his entire career around the use of the Big Lie. In his races for the House, Senate, vice presidency, and the presidency, he challenged the patriotism of his opponents: they were communists, Reds, pinkos, soft on communism, un-American.

Big Lie Number 2: President Obama is a socialist. No, but Mr. Obama is certainly somewhere in the liberal tradition of the Democratic Party that has existed from Thomas Jefferson to Ted Kennedy. He is clearly more progressive than moderate Democrats like Arkansas’s Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln.

Republican president Theodore Roosevelt referred to those in his own party who did not want to reform capitalism as the “lunatic fringe.” TR and his Democratic successors Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson wanted to save capitalism from itself – from its own worst excesses. They succeeded so well that after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, we let our guard down. Now, Mr. Obama has fortunately returned to that same tradition.

Sadly, the “lunatic fringe” still exists, but now it’s the dominant wing of the Republican Party. Rather than submit to reforms and regulations, it apparently would prefer to see every bank fail, every auto manufacturer go out of business, every oil and coal industry pollute the planet, every one who loses a job go destitute, and every sick or injured person who can’t afford health insurance “die and decrease the surplus population.”

Many of us have utilized many or all of the following: public school systems; state universities; adult education centers; public libraries; public water utilities; fire and police departments; county health units; traffic and street lights; trash pickup; street and highway construction and maintenance; city, state, and national parks, wildlife refuges, and recreational areas; National Guard; U. S. Armed Forces; Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. All of these are socialistic services, but how many of us consider ourselves to be socialists?

Everyone knew before the Election of 2008 that it was George W. Bush who doubled the national debt, and it was he who authorized the bailout of the banks. Obama’s emergency responses to the Great Recession have only added about 10 percent to the anticipated debt. Voters are notorious for having short memories, but the instantaneous amnesia that set in after Obama’s inauguration in 2009 has been ridiculous and irresponsible.

Yes, health care reform did put restrictions on the for-profit insurance companies. They will not be able to drop clients because they get sick and will not be able to deny coverage because of pre-existing conditions. And yes, millions of people previously uninsured and uninsurable will be able to get coverage.

However, the choices we will have for health coverage are entirely in the private sector. No public option was created. Why? All the Republicans and many moderate Democrats believed that a public option would be so successful and so popular that private insurers would not be able to compete with it – this position was stated by Republicans in committee. Yes, President Obama was aware that the public option was the best way to go, but he never fought for it. Never!

Socialist Party USA Responds To Rick Perry's Obama Socialist Claim
The Socialist Party USA is skeptical of Rick Perry's claim Sunday that President Obama is a socialist.

"The notion that Barack Obama is a socialist ranks among the greatest fairy tales in American society -- right up there with the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and the idea that if you work hard enough your children will live a better life than you," Socialist Party spokesperson Lynn Lomibao said in an email. "Socialists know what Obama is: another corporate funded politician placed in the White House to protect the wealth and status of the 1%."

During a Sunday morning debate, Perry said, "I make a very proud statement and a fact that we have a president that's a socialist." Perry said states could do a better job than the federal government in delivering education, health care, and environmental regulations.

The Socialist Party, which The New York Times reported last year has 1,000 members, doesn't see much socialism coming from the Obama administration.

"When Americans needed a solution to mass unemployment, Obama gave away billions in cash to bail out the banks," Lomibao continued. "When Americans needed a single-payer healthcare system, Obama promoted a pro-health insurance healthcare 'reform' package that forced millions into junk healthcare plans subsidized by public funds. And when American workers asked for the right to join a union without employer harassment through the Employee Free Choice Act, Obama showed who he really answers to by betraying the promises he made to working people during his campaign."

Obama Derangement Syndrome: Kill Obamacare, Let Bin Laden Go Free

This is why it's hard to take the right wing seriously. Via The Politico:

GOP strategist Rick Wilson recently asked a focus group of Republican voters whether they would rather “kill Obamacare” or have killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden:

If Democrats suffered through “Bush Derangement Syndrome” during the last decade, Republican primary voters view the current president with near-contempt, thanks to the lousy economy and a liberal governing agenda. Obama’s unpopular health care law still is driving much of that anger. Wilson said he recently conducted a focus group where Republicans were asked whether, if they had a choice, they would rather “kill Obamacare” or have killed Osama bin Laden.

“They would have killed Obamacare and waited for the actuarial tables [to] play out for bin Laden,” Wilson said.

Of course, what they don't acknowledge is the number of Americans that would also die as a result of a lack of access to health coverage. I guess those people are right on par with Bin Laden in the eyes of the right.

Is Barack Obama A Marxist Mole?

In his biography of Barack Obama, David Mendell writes about Obama’s life as a “secret smoker” and how he “went to great lengths to conceal the habit.” But what about Obama’s secret political life? It turns out that Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communist.
