Howard Stern Speaks Out About Artie Lange, His New Contract and His Divorce

"Neil Strauss spoke to Howard Stern for over three hours at SiriusXM headquarters in New York. They discussed Stern's traumatic divorce from his ex-wife Alison, the wild period in his personal life that followed before he met his second wife Beth, former sidekick Artie Lange's suicide attempt, his many years in therapy and his plans for the next five years of his radio show."

    Howard on Artie Lange

"Finding Artie was a great joy. But Artie's demons got a hold of him, and I'm probably the last one to really have realized what he was going through. To me, Artie was coming in and doing his job and he did it so well that I really didn't think he had a problem. Toward the end, I got it. You'd have to be blind not to see it. But I'm not a drug guy, really. Early in my life, I took drugs, but I'm very naive about it. Maybe I just wanted to have blinders on, I don't know."

This article and cover has got an awful lot of run in the press. I think mainstream media is now covering Howard more than ever. There was a time around his 3rd year at Sirius that I thought media really did stop caring.

He was great on Jimmy Fallon last night! Fallon had an ipad on his desk and showed how the app looks and even played a clip from Stern's radio show.

But Stern himself declared the promotional tour is now over; speaking as a shareholder, I would prefer he stay out in the public eye more often on this 5 year contract than he did during the last.

Stern - “So I’ve done the talk show circuit, and now this is it. I’m done,” he said of his decision. “For five years I’ll just only do my show and go into hiding. No more Lettermans; no more any.”

He was pretty good last night, not as good as Letterman but, good. What always strikes me as strange is that Kimmel is a good close friend but, his appearances on Jimmy's show always fall flat. I wish he wouldn't do that remote crap. If he can't do it live, he shouldn't do it.

    Stern on Letterman

Tyler Savery could learn an awful lot from this clip, particularly during the eleven seconds running from 1:49 to 2:00 . . . . . if ya know what I mean . . .
