I don't know much about science...but there was a lot of mass media clambering on about how amazing CAT is doing in the 'emerging markets'...

me...well, I'm always a bit leary about where a stock is heading - you know - after the money guys are finished with it and are now suggesting it to the retail folks.

disclaimer: I didn't look at the chart - probably won't look at it, either. Just know that lots of folks get bit on buying after the news has hit the news and is now being reported on the news...

    just sayin'

    Well, since.....

Well since everybody and their brother is bummed out and doesn't post anymore, I decided that it would be easier to post the following than tap-dance in here:

Little Melissa comes home from first grade
and tells her father that they learned about the history of Valentine's Day.

"Since Valentine's Day is for a Christian saint and we're Jewish,"
she asks,"will God get mad at me for giving someone a valentine?"

Melissa's father thinks a bit, then says "No, I don't think God
would get mad. Who do you want to give a Valentine to?"

    "Osama Bin Laden," she says.

"Why Osama Bin Laden," her father asks in shock.

"Well," she says, "I thought that if a little American Jewish girl
could have enough love to give Osama a Valentine, he might start to
think that maybe we're not all bad, and maybe start loving people a
    Little bit.

And if other kids saw what I did and sent Valentines to Osama, he'd
love everyone a lot. And then he'd start going all over the place to
tell everyone how much he loved them and h ow he didn't hate anyone Anymore."

Her father's heart swells and he looks at his daughter with new found pride.

"Melissa, that's the most wonderful thing I've ever heard."

"I know," Melissa says, "and once that gets him out in the open, the
    Marines could shoot the f_cker."

    More on ships

    Ok -

So today, the up indexes were transports, airlines, hardware
Also, noticed SEA - the ETF is poised for a breakout from resistance - I'm at home, so won't post charts

Of the ships to breakout - (not counting 2 leaders that have been in a steady uptrend) - I have these and some some fundamental grades from 2 different sources..

    DRYS D D 18 A-
    DSX D D 35 B
    EGLE D D 46 A
    GNK C C 59 A-
    ONAV D F 28 C
    PRGN C D 49 B+
    RAMS B B 47 A-

Yeah, I'm not joking here, the best of the "second class" is RAMS, and it's in your favorite range - about $1, and in a different pattern (the rest are triangles, or near daily straight resistance) - it's the pennant.

DRYS today was a leader in price change, just below AAPL.

I'll run some calcs using my handy dandy program on gains/risk/etc to some local price resistance. I'm going to target a "risk"of $100, based on a stop also just from eyeballing the charts - though, the number of shares may not be exact, and I'm not running it to get exactly $100.

[#The first numbers directly below are:
Closing price, target price, stop price, trade amount needed to match risk]

    DRYS sym triangle
    7.37 11 6.25 650

    gain 49.2537%
    gain $320.149
    exit amount $970.149

    loss -15.1967%
    loss $-98.7788
    exit amount $551.221

    risk/reward 3.24107

*So for DRYS, putting up about $650, with a stop around $6.25, you'd lose about $100 if bought on the close.

    ########
    DSX flat channel
    15 18 13 750

    gain 20%
    gain $150
    exit amount $900

    loss -13.3333%
    loss $-100
    exit amount $650

    risk/reward 1.5

    ##########
    EGLE flat channel
    6 9 5 600

    gain 50%
    gain $300
    exit amount $900

    loss -16.6667%
    loss $-100
    exit amount $500

    risk/reward 3

    ###########
    GNK sym triangle
    23 35 20.50 1000

    gain 52.1739%
    gain $521.739
    exit amount $1521.74

    loss -10.8696%
    loss $-108.696
    exit amount $891.304

    risk/reward 4.8

    ##########
    ONAV descending triangle
    3.50 4.50 3.25 1500

    gain 28.5714%
    gain $428.571
    exit amount $1928.57

    loss -7.14286%
    loss $-107.143
    exit amount $1392.86

    risk/reward 4

    ###########
    PRGN sym triangle
    4.75 6 4.20 900

    gain 26.3158%
    gain $236.842
    exit amount $1136.84

    loss -11.5789%
    loss $-104.211
    exit amount $795.789

    risk/reward 2.27273
    ########
RAMS* - pennant - the pattern is much different, so it's based on a more violent clear breakout and taking a buy at $1.20

    1.20 1.60 1.05 800

    gain 33.3333%
    gain $266.667
    exit amount $1066.67

    loss -12.5%
    loss $-100
    exit amount $700

    risk/reward 2.66667
    #############

Tough call - I like the thought of playing different patterns, will go back and code them, after symbol

DRYS or GNK, then EGLE, RAMS, then maybe ONAV (has a good risk reward, but the triangle is steep, I like them flatter).

    That's my take...

*I didn't read a lick of news on any of them, nor did I check their earnings dates...

    I'll do that now too.
GNK and RAMS are the earliest - oct 28th.

Though, to be prudent I should check when the other 12 or so ships I cover are looking to report.

Anyway - just throwing out trading ideas, I'm not looking to buy unless these guys breakout tomorrow, or the next few days.

As usual, I didn't read any news, but did my own kind of DD - I cover more stocks this way, it took me about an hour to make this report.

Note - those first 2 columns of fundamental grades should look bad, as these stocks are at the bottom of the heap - ie. they haven't rallied with the rest of the market.

Also to note, in the big grand scheme of things, the industry groups that were up yesterday were consumer staples and energy, both of these are defensive... meaning the bullish plays aren't so hot at the moment, or at least yesterday.

My trend software had a few hits on these guys, as well as a pattern matching software I have too. I"m all crazy... still though, needs breakouts to confirm, and control the losses... as the market looks a little over heated, and money is flowing into defensive plays.

Evolution Fuels Announces Branding Campaign and Fuel Station Rollout Strategy

    Wed Oct 21, 2009 9:30am EDT

    Featured Broker sponsored link
DALLAS, Oct. 21, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Evolution Fuels, Inc. (Pink
Sheets:EVFL) (the "Company") today announced its strategy for a rollout of
    "Evolution Fuels"-branded renewable fuel stations.

The Company's rollout plan extends from Texas and Oklahoma, and eastward through
Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. The plan calls for the
establishment of select "marquee" stations within key cities in each of these
states over the course of the next twelve months, to be followed by additional
stations as permitted by the degree of the Company's future successes.

The Company plans to provide superior quality fuels to competing fuel stations
by virtue of the blending capability within the fuel dispensers at its stations
and offering the blends at competitive prices. The planned stations will offer
    ethanol/gasoline blends of fuel including 10% ethanol/90% gasoline (E10), 20%
    ethanol/80% gasoline (E20), and 85% ethanol/15% gasoline (E85). The latter two
blends are intended for flex-fuel vehicles, although recent studies have shown
that many legacy vehicles on the road today may use an E20 blend without
incurring damage to the engines or fuel systems.

Additionally, a B20 (20% biodiesel/80% petroleum diesel) biodiesel product is
planned at the pumps that can be used in diesel engines without any
    modifications to the vehicle.

Research and testing has been conducted by groups in collaboration with the U.S.
Department of Energy (DOE) that show blends of up to 20% ethanol can be used in
most legacy automobiles. Specifically, in the summer 2007, the DOE initiated a
test program to evaluate the potential impacts of intermediate ethanol blends on
legacy vehicles and other engines. Results of those tests can be found in the
National Renewable Energy Laboratory's report (Effects of Intermediate Ethanol
Blends on Legacy Vehicles and Small Non-Road Engines) published in February
    2000: http://feerc.ornl.gov

In December 2007, the American Coalition for Ethanol reported that research
findings "show that mid-range ethanol blends -- fuel mixtures with more ethanol
than E10 but less than E85 -- can in some cases provide better fuel economy than
regular unleaded gasoline, even in standard, non-flex-fuel vehicles." The report
    may be found here:
    http://www.ethanol.org/pdf/contentmg...evel_Study_fin
    l_12507.pdf

The Company is in negotiations to acquire ownership in existing stations to be
converted to "Evolution Fuels" renewable fuel stations, and plans to announce
new developments regarding this facet within the next five days.

    About Evolution Fuels, Inc.

The Company endeavors to market renewable transportation fuels at retail fuel
stations that will provide blends of ethanol ranging from 10% to 85% (E10 to
E85), and biodiesel blends from 5% to 20% (B5 to B20). The Company's plan calls
for the development of a chain of renewable fuel stations that extend from Texas
to Mississippi that will be a combination of "Evolution Fuels"-branded fuel
stations/convenience stores and western-motif truck stops modeled after the
Willie's Place Truck Stop in Carl's Corner, TX. The Company's Web site is
    www.evolution-fuels.com.

Sorry I haven't posted up this week, but honestly...my portfolio is the same as many of yours.

And there just isn't much worth discussing these days. These stocks are stagnant.
