I hear ya Bill. Long before 'rap' there was Zappa ... Knew some freinds of a friend kind of thing who were all into him. Seemed like two camps: Those who thought Zappa was god and the others that just went ... huh? His kid on the other hand .... Dweezil, he has some chops ... (Not pork! lol)
There you go! That's more the style I go with - Indirect heat on the Weber. Not having a rib-rack I came up with a leaning, Tee Pee style of pitching the racks, held together with skewers. The rub is the key, most of the store bought hasn't been very impressive, usually will make up my own.
All of those and then some ... Absolutely one of my heroes as well. I did a book report on him in junior high, it's was typically heavy on the plagiarism but even went down to the local drugstore to make copies of pictures for it. Probably the most intensive thing I ever did in school rather than the usual getting it out of the way mentality, I mean it was Jimi!
I got an "A" on it

Before Motorhead there was ... Lemmy would have to challenge for the worst vocals ever, think he gargled small bit's of glass and gravel to perfect those chords of his ... I remember buying a Motorhead album around the time of the NWOBHM era on some recommendation ... "Ace of Spades" was on it. I got home, put it on and thought, what is this crap?
Good grief listen to me, I 'm Mr. snob rock critic now ...
LOL! Watching this vid. and assuming the same era ... I bet that guy was crapping his pants!
Bill you remind me so much of my friends older brothers with a lot of these, just that one era jump if you will. They introduced us to a lot of stuff, Tull being a great example.
Here is a version of one that I couldn't get enough of at the time ...

Bill--
Since you're big on Seattle, I'll suggest a modern-day band from just up the road (Portland) that Jennifer and I recently discovered (via the Margaritaville Channel on Sirius, no less). It's not *rock* per se, but it is really, really good music.

"Hey Eugene" and "Amado Mio" are beautiful songs. China Forbes (the lead singer) has an incredible voice.
Maybe it is your thing, maybe it is not. I'm a rocker like everybody else. But Pink Martini just kind of hit that spot in my brain that says "me like". I hope you do, too.

As for properly cooking some ribs, I'm stunned nobody has mentioned smoking them (electric or gas, doesn't matter to me). We have an electric smoker. Coat the ribs in olive oil, put 'em in the smoker for 2-3 hours, add wood chips every 30 minutes or so.
To. Die. For.
Thanksgiving turkey is also cooked this way, and the relatives swear it's the best they've ever had. Keeps 'em coming back, year after year.
