Services like finding a stolen car and onstar are not very likely at this point. Satellite radios are receivers only, and not approved for transmitting. In order to locate a car, police would need to receive a signal transmitted from the satellite radio. In addition, the satellites are not designed to locate sdars radios.

Onstar requires two way communication. Sdars does not have that yet. To get such a plan in place will take two years at least, and likely need FCC approval.

This is not to say that it is not possible. It is. However, there would be a lot that needs to happen in order for it to be real. There are more pressing issues that need to be dealt with first. Dreams like this will be on the back burner.

Hate to break it to you, but the new sat. has uplink capabilities. Onstar? Onstar uses SiriusXM sats. I dont know if the uplink is just for Hughes black box, or for other uses, and new "revenue streams". As stated in there CC. Repeater upgrades and new sat. enables "new revenue streams".

sats all have uplinks. It is how Sirius and xm get the content to the birds. Onstar uses part of xm's bandwith to send, but not receive. Any of the Sats are capable of sending. The biggest issue is that the existing radios are receivers only, thus a lojack type service would be years away.

The first new rev streams would likely be getting info and items to a consumer, not from them. Given how long it takes to get something into the own channel, we have a while to wait yet.

Ok, but you know what I meant. It has more uplink capabilities than any of its predicessors. Plus, they stated, NEW REVENUE STREAMS. From specifically upgrading repeaters and with this new sat. So maybe write an article about what those might be. As you refuse to mention the little black box, maybe I am on to something. No one mentions it, yet it does specifically what this new sat can do.

Hardware add on maybe. Turn them into signals. Onstar already uses the technology to communicate to the sats.(position, etc...). How is this such a leap of faith?
