Do I have a bad unit?

About three weeks ago I bought a Sirius Stratus SV3 receiver of of e-Bay, advertised as new. It didn't come in a box or anything, just the unit. Later, I purchased the Cigarette lighter power adapter. The power cord works. It's light illuminates and I meassured that I'm getting 5VDC from it. I plug it into the Receiver and depress the receivers on/off switch. The display doesn't do anything. I don't have an antenna but shouldn't the display at least illuminate and maybe give me an error message about not having an antenna or something. The receiver doesn't have to be in a docking station for it to work, does it. BTW, I bought it from Sattelite_Radio_Specialists and they have, like 9500 feedbacks - all 100% positive, so I feel I purchased it from a reputable dealer.
Any clues what could be wrong?
    Thanks

Yes, even without an antana, the unit should turn on, and even work just fine if you have terrestrial repeaters near you that broadcast the Sirius XM signal.

I would suggest emailing the seller, as they typically sell multiple items like this and may possibly know what is wrong or have dealt with a situation like this before. If that does not help, come on back and we will see what we can do here.

Thanks an welcome (hopefully at least) to the wanderful world of Satellite Radio!

Is the voltage output from the adapter the same as the input needed for the receiver?

Dont connect anything direct to the radio. I see no mention of a stratus SV3 dock which is required to operate this radio. Do you have a dock?????

Yes, the unit requires 5VDC and that's what the adapter is putting out.

    No, I don't have a dock.

So I must slide the unit into a docking station and hook the power cord to the docking station before the receiver will work. Is that what you're saying?

Absolutely almost all the new radios require a dock. You should go on ebay and seach for either an SUPV1 or SV3 Stratus dock

I received a dock yesterday, plugged the receiver into the dock, then powered up the dock.
    Works perfectly.
