The Supreme Court ruled that the 2nd Amendment protects the individual's right to own "guns in common use." Semi-automatic assault rifles are the weapon of choice for mass shooters but are not in "common use." They were banned from 1994 to 2004. The ban should never have been allowed to lapse. It should have been strengthened. "America is terrified," declares an editorial in the New York Post noting 11 recent massacres and urging Trump to "ban weapons of war." We can only hope.

In Trumpworld, the Land of Delusions, spewing a steady stream of hateful, racist, divisive, fear-mongering, anti-immigrant, white nationalist rhetoric has absolutely no connection to the rise of hatred, bigotry, xenophobia and anti-Mexican sentiment in the United States. None whatsoever. No, the problem is violent movies, violent video games, mental illness and the Internet. And, oh yeah, the news media. Always blame the news media. For everything.
Analysis: Trump blames everything but his own words for hate in America

Even when our nation is reeling from several mass shootings, the orange-skinned parrot just can't resist attacking the news media and squawking, "Fake news! Fake news! Awwwkkk!"

@realDonaldTrump
The Media has a big responsibility to life and safety in our Country. Fake News has contributed greatly to the anger and rage that has built up over many years. News coverage has got to start being fair, balanced and unbiased, or these terrible problems will only get worse!

Why is it copycats want to copy bad behavior, never good behavior? What is wrong with society that anyone would look to mass murderers as role models?

Today's children and teenagers did not live through the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 – but they're living in fear because, for them, every mass shooting is the equivalent of a small-scale 9/11. Their friends and family members and classmates are dying and nobody knows who will be next. Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans could take immediate action to ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammo magazines, enact universal background checks and provide more funding for mental health research – but they won't. They do the bidding of the NRA. Guns are more important than human life. This story is heartbreaking:

In January, Oregon Senator Rob Wagner introduced a bill (SB 501) which would require licenses for all guns, limit ammo magazines to five rounds, limit purchase of ammo to 20 rounds per month and require all guns to be locked up when not in use. Earlier today, Mike Turner, a Republican Congressman who represents Dayton and served as the city's mayor from 1993 to 2002, reversed his earlier position and now supports a ban on semi-automatic weapons. He also wants to keep guns out of the hands of "mentally unstable people." Turner's proposals are sensible. Wagner's proposals are draconian – but understandable. To halt the rising tide of gun violence and mass shootings, Wagner's proposals and Turner's proposas need to be enacted on a federal level. Now.

Democrats have been urging Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell to reconvene the Senate for a vote on a House-passed bill that mandates universal background checks for gun purchases. McConnell, a Republican, refuses to do so. For the NRA-puppet Republicans, guns are of supreme importance. Human life? Eh, not so much.
Republicans fear 'extinction in the suburbs' over gun control

Semi-automatic, military-style rifles are the weapon of choice for mass murderers – and Trump says there is "no political appetite" to ban them. So.......Republicans have an appetite for more mass shootings? More bloodshed? More deaths? More wounded? Or do they just not want to take any action that would cost them the support – and campaign contributions – of the NRA?

"Homeland Security officials battled the White House for more than a year to get them to focus more on domestic terrorism," a White House source told CNN. "The White House wanted to focus only on the jihadist threat which, while serious, ignored the reality that racial supremacist violence was rising fast here at home." In other words, Emperor Trump sees Islamic terrorists as evil monsters but American-born white nationalist terrorists are "very fine people."

The NRA ousted its president and its top lobbyist, three board members resigned – and then there was that little issue of being infiltrated by a Russian agent. The NRA is in chaos right now but they need to hurry and get their problems taken care of. In the next 15 months prior to Election Day, the NRA will be very busy trying to ensure no gun-control legislation gets passed. Gunmen armed with semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity ammo magazines have an inalienable right, granted by the 2nd Amendment, to commit mass murders. The NRA is not about to let any loony, leftist, un-American "gun grabbers" take away that right.
The gun control fight has started. Could turmoil at the NRA be a game-changer?

In his 1941 State Of The Union address, President Franklin Roosevelt said everyone should be guaranteed freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want and freedom from fear. Since Emperor Trump has been in office, each of those freedoms is being eroded. Trump demonizes Muslims, Hispanics and immigrants. He ruthlessly attacks Democrats and the news media. His trade wars are hurting American farmers and the middle class. His hateful, racist, fear-mongering, white nationalist rhetoric is dividing us, not uniting us. It is Trump and his blindly loyal supporters vs. everyone else in our nation. Trump has not made America "great." He has made America hate. Our nation and our democracy can not survive an additional four years of Emperor Trump. We need to ensure he loses in 2020.

Despite Emperor Trump's claims to the contrary, the shooting victims in Dayton and El Paso did not shower him with "love and respect." Many refused to meet with him. Trump used his hospital visits as a photo op. He smugly grinned, gave a thumbs-up and posed for pictures while those who were wounded in last weekend's massacres lay in hospital beds and the bodies of those who were killed remain at the morgue. In Trumpworld, the Land of Delusions, everything is about Trump. Everything.

Prior to his inauguration, Emperor Trump told the NRA, "You have a friend in the White House." He's threatened to veto two House-passed bills expanding background checks should the bills be passed by the Senate. Today he told reporters he wants stronger background checks that will keep guns out of the hands of "sick and demented people." He claims Mitch McConnell and the Republicans are "on board" with him. They are not. A Microsoft News poll beneath this Washington Post story asks, "Do you think Trump is sincere in his support for stronger background checks?" Right now, 63% say no, 24% say yes and 13% are unsure.

Yes, because if a 19-year-old white nationalist catches a glimpse of copies of Metro Exodus, Cadence Of Hyrule and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare as he's walking to the back of the store to buy a semiautomatic assault rifle, a high-capacity ammo magazine and several rounds of ammunition, there's no telling what he might do!

On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza shot and killed his mother, then shot and killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School before killing himself. Since that time, there have been almost 2,200 mass shootings in the United States. Two hundred fifty-three of those have occurred in the first 28 weeks of this year. Is America "great" yet?

This 23-year-old had an unregistered firearm and was planning to make Molotov cocktails and IEDs and attack Jews and gays. He had been in contact with a white supremacist organization that encourages attacks on gays and minorities. And Emperor Trump, a racist, bigoted, immigrant-hating white nationalist, doesn't see the white supremacy movement as a growing threat. Welcome to Trumpworld.

All the Democratic Presidential candidates want expanded background checks. All the Democratic Presidential candidates want assault weapons banned. And all the Democratic Presidential candidates cite the same obstacles to getting gun-control legislation passed: Trump, Republicans and the NRA. Voters need to ask themselves why Trump, Republicans and the NRA are uninterested in trying to reduce gun violence. Why do they regard every American's right to life as unimportant?

While Emperor Trump is busy attacking Mexicans, Muslims, immigrants and asylum seekers, almost all the mass shootings in the United States are committed by white, male, American-born, right-wing extremists. Trump chooses to ignore that fact. Front-page headline in the print edition of today's Los Angeles Times:
