Okay, this is it!
I, and others, have posted some great tunes in a variety of styles and types; all worthy examples of great music.
This time, Santana and John Lee Hooker - the former one of the greatest bands ever - the latter an exemplar of the essence of the blues.
Lower the lights. Ask her to dance - or just watch. Haunting and sensual.

A song from the 70s, originally recorded by Timmy Thomas, done spectacularly with an added latin flavor by Santana, Steve Miller and Ry Cooder. Another example of the wonderful latin sound.

Can't resist adding this version to complement Señor Vargas' version below. BOTH are magnificent.

Can now answer the question I asked above. The Vargas Blues Band, fronted by Javier Vargas, plays some great music. Here is a sample of a great Latin blues(y) sound that builds and builds.

Ok, we all know musical preference is subjective, but what I think we have here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRGrKGFB2DY may very well be THE GREATEST rock and roll song of all time. I like this version because it is live, and raw. There are several variations; check 'em out.

The problem, at least for me, is separating the liking of a performer, the intensity of the performance, the production values of the performance, sometimes the lyrics, the longevity of the band and your feeling at that moment (or when you first heard the song) with how you view the pure music.
Can't be done, I posit.
So 'great' is entirely subjective since music is mostly emotional.
Anyway, I like the song and the band,
PS. How about Layla for a great song, a classic, one of the best? It's a problem without a solution. Best to be mostly ignored.

Layla? You seem to have forgotten something. I have your back. Again, many version to choose from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI3XaB64fys Layla is a great tune.

That version (Layla) was GREAT! Hadn't seen that before.
I...ah...owe you one for that. Quite a good choice from all that is available on that song.
That was an example of what I posted above. The song is great but that concert video was also fun to watch. That made it even better - to 'see' the song.
Thanks.
My very effusive response is all you're going to get - unless you make another great pick.
Now, back to our original programming. (you believe that crap?)
I feel much better now.

I saw Elton John and Billy Joel in concert at the Palace about 12 or so years ago. Back when they were buds. lol
Great concert.
