Starmate Replay static

I've had my Starmate for over 11 years now and I just recently started getting static. I pulled it off the window mount to fiddle around with it and sometimes it clears up. Is it just age?

I happened to get a new Stratus 7 sent to me recently for my wife's new car but she decided she doesn't want it. So I think I'll replace my Starmate with it. Too bad it doesn't have a remote control like my Starmate. And the power adaptor is different so I can't use the hardwired power that is currently in my car.
