The #MeToo thread
CNN reported this story on October 15, 2017:
#MeToo: Social media flooded with personal stories of assault
Two simple words have become a rallying cry on Twitter to stand against sexual harassment and assault: "Me too." Social media was flooded with messages Sunday, mostly from women, who tagged their profiles to indicate that they have been sexually harassed or assaulted. Actress Alyssa Milano tweeted a note that read "Suggested by a friend: If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote "Me too" as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem. If you've been sexually harassed or assaulted write 'me too' as a reply to this tweet." An onslaught of women -- some famous and many not -- have tweeted "Me too" and shared their experiences.
The movement started in response to the Harvey Weinstein scandal and its ensuing fallout. Weinstein has been disgraced after several women have accused him of sexual misconduct. In addition to losing his job and his wife, Weinstein was stripped of his membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

CNN on November 9 called #MeToo "the hashtag that rocked the world," noting that more than 1.7 million women and men have used the hashtag in 85 countries and expressing hope of "a lasting movement that that will create social change and reduce sexual abuse of women."

Wave of Hollywood sex assault claims sends LAPD into uncharted territory
Los Angeles Times, Nov 22 2017 11:15 AM
The flood of sexual assault allegations coming out of the Hollywood entertainment industry has the Los Angeles Police Department negotiating uncharted territory. Never before has the department received so many sexual assault allegations involving high-profile figures at one time, including many complex cases that are years old with multiple alleged victims. The department has re-engineered its detective staff to deal with the influx. The LAPD has established five teams of two detectives to exclusively investigate allegations of sexual misconduct in Hollywood. The teams include members of the cold-case unit, because those detectives are experts in dealing with old criminal allegations that lack physical evidence.
The LAPD now has 28 open investigations related to Hollywood and media figures, including mogul Harvey Weinstein, actor Ed Westwick, writer Murray Miller and agent Tyler Grasham. The department has also taken 37 other sex crimes reports that it has sent to other law enforcement agencies, believing the alleged crimes occurred in those jurisdictions.

Al Franken to resign from Senate amid harassment allegations
New York Times, Dec 7 2017
Senator Al Franken of Minnesota, in an emotional speech on the Senate floor, announced on Thursday that he would resign from Congress. At turns defiant and mournful but hardly contrite, Franken called it "the worst day of my political life," as he denied allegations of groping and improper advances from at least six women. Instead, as his Democratic colleagues looked on, he took a parting shot at President Trump and Roy S. Moore, the Republican candidate for Senate in Alabama; both have also been accused of sexual misconduct.
Franken said, "I, of all people, am aware that there is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party."
Hours later, Representative Trent Franks, Republican of Arizona, resigned after the House Ethics Committee opened an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment — a move that made him the third member of Congress to leave under a cloud of claims of sexual impropriety in three days. On Tuesday, Representative John Conyers Jr., Democrat of Michigan and the longest-serving African-American in House history, also quit.

Letter from Myra Sosin of Irvine in today's Los Angeles Times:
"Sorry as I am to see what's happening to Al Franken, I applaud the Democrats for taking the moral high ground on the problem of sexual harassment, even when that could cost them an important vote in the Senate. Now let's see an equal number of Republicans take the same moral high ground against a possible future senator who is an accused sexual predator and against a president who is a self-admitted sexual abuser. I'm dreaming, of course."

For the past several days, it seems as though every hour there are new sexual abuse allegation against someone. What has happened to the so-called "moral fabric" of American society?

At the post office, we're always making jokes back and forth and many are sexual in nature. Even a lot of the women take part in the joking. Do we have to start worrying than 10 or 20 years from now, we'll be accused of sexual harassment? Some of these accusations in the news are pretty childish and ridiculous.

Bernie Sanders also thinks Trump should resign because Trump has been accused of worse things than Franken is accused of and Trump has more accusers. I do not think Trump will ever resign, not even if he is impeached. Nixon was going to be impeached and he resigned first but I can't see Trump doing that.
