Could Governor Palin Wind Up On Sirius XM?
Governor Sarah Palin became an overnight sensation when Senator McCain announced her as a running mate in the elections of 2008. She was easy on the eyes, spunky, outgoing, and controversial. Simply stated, whether elected or not, Palin had become a national figure. Her notoriety continued recently because of a highly publicized feud with David Letterman, and then extended yet again with the announcement that she was retiring from her position as Governor of Alaska.
Ever since Palin gave up the Governors seat, she has been the subject of many stories theorizing about whether she would wind up on television, or even the radio. While nothing has been confirmed, it is obvious that Palin is carrying on discussions with many media entities.
Could satellite radio become a home for Palin? The answer is that it may well be a perfect home for her. Palin on satellite radio would allow her to reach the entire nation with her show and/or message. For satellite, it is perhaps one of the better opportunities to get a new player for a reasonable cost. Let’s face it, Palin is new to this game, and thus would not command the type of contract other big names get. This is not to say there would be no cost, but it certainly would not equate to the Martha Stewart deal.
The republican party is still reeling from the last election. Some have said that there is an identity crisis happening with the right wing, and until that issue is resolved, the party will suffer. Palin is more centrist than personalities like Limbaugh and Hannity, and that may be just the reason Sirius XM should consider bringing her on board. Her appeal will be more wide reaching, and she could bring about fan base that appeals to a demographic not already addressed on the Sirius XM dial.
Certainly Palin will wind up doing some sort of media. I may not agree with all of her stances, but I for one would like to see her on satellite.
Position – Long Sirius XM
Sarah Palin would be great doing a comedy show. She is the funniest darn thing since George W Bush. And we all miss laughing at these morons.
She would be a huge draw. There are millions of people in this country that think she has something to offer.
I would be all for her sitting in a radio studio instead of in a seat in our government.
One problem would be that she would just quit in the middle of her contract though.
What a hoot!
“Certainly Palin will wind up doing some sort of media. I may not agree with all of her stances, but I for one would like to see her on satellite.”
You last sentence is very interesting and some arm-chair psychiatrist’s might even call it a “Freudian Slip” in that you had earlier mentioned her being “easy on the eyes.”
The fact that you can only “hear” her on satellite radio and not “see” her raises the question in my mind as to whether the Company would ever consider simulcasting such a radio show on one of Malone’s Direct TV Channels for an additional fee to Sirius XM . . TV simulcasting of Radio programming is not a new idea and provides new cross-promotional opportunities.
Lol..
I simply think she would bering an audiece.
agreed!
(you must be typing from your Blackberry today . . those damn little keys lol)
you got…I was on the blackberry
While I can’t stand the woman, I have to admit there is a certain audience living in the deep back woods) that would become instant subscribers. Satellite would be the best way for her to reach her supporters!
Satelite is certainly an excellent way to reach subscribers that’s why we are all posting on this Sirius site.
Governor Sarah Palin’s presence on Siri Satellite Radio would be beneficial as she brings in new subscribers and rejuvenates some who may have dropped by the wayside.
The Democrats have Oprah so a little balance would be welcome on the scene for women to add some balance.
Position: Long Sirius/XM
Oh lord. I can’t believe I’m gonna say this….but yeah…it’d be a great catch. Like her or not, the woman who can see “Russia from her house” would generate alot of attention. I’d like to see CNBC try to break this story WITOUT mentioning Sirius! Take THAT CNBC! Lol….God knows they’d TRY.
So yeah, it’d be good free publicity that would keep on giving.
HOWEVER. My own personal opinion is that Palin will land a tv show on Fox News sandwiched between those two knuckle heads O’Reilly and Beck. She is TOO much of a media whore NOT to want face time. I’d bet any amount of money THIS is the brass ring she is reaching for. And they’d pay her BIG money. Trust me.
Not saying she couldn’t be on radio too. But I’d bet anything her dream job is hosting her own Fox News show. She’ll give it some patriotic folksy title like “Palin’s Real America” or something like that. Oh God. Help me.
She was great on a script when she ran, but ask her a question where she had to think on her feet, and she was LOST. This could be potentially embarrassing for her, and she’ll be scrutinized like crazy. But look at that freak Beck. The man is certifiably INSANE, and yet he is totally insulated and protected at Fox. So who knows.
I think Radio would be safer for her….but I get the feeling that her ego is so MASSIVE and she’s tasted fame and doesn’t want to give that up. I think going back to Governor of Alaska was so anti climactic for her, that THAT is the reason she stepped down.
She wants back in the limelight. And although radio would be cool….I think she wants to look directly in the camera every night, smack her lips and say “YOU BETCHA!” as she signs off.
P.S. I guarantee that that is the single largest photo ever posted to a Tyler Savery article and I will give 20-1 odds to any takers . .
Lol…
I thought I had reduced the size of the photo. I wrote the piece then hit the road. Charles will have to downsize it
In my opinion the Republican Party has been taken over the most extreme religious right (people who love to push their beliefs on others while trying to take away their rights) and that’s who you need to focus on if you real want to win. Good Luck, because as they said in WACO, “We Ain’t Coming Out”.
To all the birthers in La, La Land, it is on you to prove to all of us that your assertion is true, if there are people who were there and support your position then show us the video (everyone has a price), either put up or frankly shut-up. I heard Orly Taitz, is selling a tape (I think it’s called “Money, Lies and Video tape”). She is from Orange County, CA, now I know what the mean when they say “behind the Orange Curtain”, when they talk about Orange County, the captial of Conspiracy Theories. You know Obama has a passport, he travel abroad before he was a Senator, but I guess he fooled them too?
LOL. You’re right….it is a HUGE photo. Lets just thank God it wasn’t a close up of Mel’s smiling face. I think y computer screen would have shattered.
Although without revealing too much of my political leanings….I Sarah’s face is almost as scary.
Even if a woman is attractive, she loses it for me if her personality or political views are too whack for me.
Case in point. I always used to have a thang for the actress Janine Turner from the tv show “Northern Exposure”. That is until I saw her take the stage with Freak-a-zoid Glenn Beck in front of the Alamo and she immediately lost me. Goodby Janine. We’ll always have Cicely Alaska. 🙂
YOUR HEADLINE AND STORY SHOULD READ “EX GOVERNOR”.
I have no problem with Tyler using Governor Sarah Palin—-perhaps he wrote the article before she relinquished the position to the new Governor—-it’s not really important to the question of her taking a position with Siri/XM or any other media source.
If one were using proper protocol one would say or write “Former Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska” not “Ex-Governor”.
Another proper form of protocol in reference to a man or woman who has served in a Governor’s position or as a Candidate for the Vice President of the United States or any political office would be to use “The Honorable”.
She is a quitter. And quitters don’t deserve to be addressed with any honor. She is a shame to our Republican Party.
However, she would be a great host of a comedy show about political antics of the far right.
There is one huge plus for Sirius Xm over TV, and that is that Sirius Xm may be able to create a studio for her show right in her own backyard(with Russia.) She wouldn’t need to travel to LA or NYC to do her job. She would be able to help her family take care of her mentally disabled son.
Tyler, this is simply the most fun article that you’ve written. Thanks for the entertainment. You’ve made my weekend!
I just read a news story that said radio giant Clear Channel PASSED on hosting a Sarah Palin radio show! They actually said no.
This makes things interesting. If anything, it CONFIRMS the rumor that Tyler was talking about is true and that she is actually pursuing a radio show.
And it does make sense that she wouldn’t want to uproot her whole family from Alaska. So perhaps Sirius would be a great fit for her.
I wonder why Clear Channel turned her down though? Was she asking too much money? You’d think that as much as they are hurting for advertisers, they’d JUMP at the chance to have a high profile name like Palin. It’d be good for attracting advertising dollars no? Of course they’d probably be ads for guns and snowmobiles…but hey. Ya can’t be picky. 🙂
The question is…how much would Sirius be willing to pay for her?
I am at the complete opposite end of the spectrum politically, and wouldn’t listen to her even if she was on….but I do hope something could be worked out, because it’d be GREAT free publicity for Sirius. And God knows CNBC goes out of their way NOT to mention them.
I think she would have some listeners at first. The scary part is if she was able to keep them.
imho
vaporgold
Lets see.
Wildly speculative(on the positive side). No basis in facts. Already loving it. It would be great if she did it. Be a huge plus for the company. Tyler….
I LOVE THIS ARTICLE. Thats what we need more of. Thanks for your efforts.
Tyler don’t read this post!
Hey Relmor . . you know Tyler pretty well, right? And I know Tyler pretty well, right?
Hmmmm . . . Tyler has never been one to get too speculative in his reporting . . sumthin’s rotten in Denmark . . could a little birdie have whistled in his ear?
Will Greenstein have a surprise announcement at the CC that will make us happy to pay his raise?
If you are an investor in this equity the discussion is not about politics . . it is about adding subscribers! As Howard Stern always said . . you can change the dial.
I’d give Goldman Sachs and Mark Wienkes a show on Sirius if I thought it would add subs . .
This post is politically neutral.subscriber bullish.
If it happens, Id be very happy. Tyler is never usually speculative like this. Makes me wonder…..
Yes, definitely . . and consider this (Tyler turn your eyes away):
1.) 7/28/09 at 10:15 AM: At the behest of his employer, JC at theroad.com, Moritz writes a hatchet-piece to seed a short position;
2.) 7/28/09 at 3:23 PM: Tyler Savery of Sirius Buzz publishes a rebuttal article with a firm but polite rebuke of Moritz’ bash piece;
3.) 7/29/09 at 3:52 PM: Moritz publishes a condescending follow-up piece which again reveals blatant fomenting;
4.) 7/29/09 at 4:57 PM: Tyler Savery of Sirius Buzz undresses Moritz in the public square. Discussion over.
5.) ???????????????????????????????????;
6.) 7/31/09 at 3:08 PM: Tyler Savery publishes uncharacteristic opinion-piece speculating on the possibility of Sarah Palin signing with Sirius XM.
My theory as to # 5? Please go to the intraday thread in the forums:
https://siriusbuzz.com/forum/showthread.php?p=44016#post44016
“I’ve never believed that I, nor anyone else, needs a title to do this – to make a difference… to HELP people. So I choose, for my State and my family, more “freedom” to progress, all the way around… so that Alaska may progress… I will not seek re-election as Governor.”
Does it matter if she can’t string a sentence together? I guess SXM will get its name in the papers if she quits doing the show after a month or two…
Any speculation on Mel being the first man on Mars?
Wow, I really can’t believe how much hate there still is!
He guys you won, leave her alone!
Maybe the dumocrats are afraid she will be elected before they can put a women in office.
She was the Vice president and all the media could focus on was her.
Really shows you how biased they really are.
How is that HOPE AND CHANGE going for you?
She can never win another election. She quit, she gave up on all of the Republicans that voted for her. She is a quitter and quitters never win. Didn’t your mother teach you that?
Obama walked away from his job!
I guess he is a quitter too!
Actually, President Obama took a job in a higher elected office serving All of the citizens of his country. Sarah Palin quit her job so she could get another job that pays a bigger paycheck in the private sector. The comparison that you make simply shows that you have no understanding of what it means to serve the public.
She’s so “mavericky” that this just might work, though I’ll have delete the channel using parental controls.
If Palin joined SXM it might just be the hottest thing ever. Possibly bigger buzz than Howard. Howard is somewhat predictable, Palin is not. We would not be able to predict anything because we do not really know her. She would be a huge draw for sure and leap SXM into the stratosphere. Everyone would have an interest just to see what she is going to say and do and with guests, etc.
She is done with politics and I believe she knew it. She is worth a lot of money just being who she may have been! If SXM gets her its going to be a few million dollar a year deal, maybe 3-5MM but she will bring in 5 times that over a two year contract.
Listen SXM, get her now or you are a bunch of dummies!!!!
Oh, ps,,,,,,,,,,
I read about how stupid most of you feel she is. Well, she’s got you outsmarted. Your a home eating hot dogs and she is going to millionaire status quick. She will make more money in two years than most of us will ever see. So, you still think she is stupid?
I listen to Howard Stern every morning and he absolutely hates Sarah Palin. If she were to sign on, the media would eat it up and Howard would be pushed further into obscurity. This would produce conflict on the Stern show. And conflict is just what it needs to get people interested again. David Letterman’s comments about Palin’s daughter would be a spring shower compared to the hurricane that Howard would unleash.
This is why I’m an investor in Sirius. You never know when the next bombshell will hit.
How about replacing Robin with Palin on Howards Show!
Rick. Calm down dude. For one thing, when does money equate with happiness? If that were true, all Sirius shareholders would be friggin retarded. Lol. I KEED! I KEED!
Seriously tho. Nobody is saying she’s stupid. Well…not exactly. She was smart enough to parlay her looks and personality to became Governor of Alaska. So you gotta give her some props.
But on a National level? I’m sorry man…she was waaaaay out of her league. And I think she realized that. She was plucked from National Obscurity by a desperate McCain who made a tactically savy but desperate move to steal Obama’s thunder in the twilight of the election when he saw the presidency slipping away from him.
It was a total fluke of luck for her. And as much as I disagree with her politics, she kinda handled the sudden thrust into the spotlight with a lot of charisma(well next to McCain that aint exactly hard)….at first anyway.
Pretty soon, it became PAINFULLY obvious that the prospect of her being a mere heartbeat away from the presidency was a TERRIFYING possibility. And I’m not just talking about from those with opposing political views either. But many Republicans were even more horrified.
I think even she would acknowledge that she was way out of her league. But I also think she was smart enough to realize that her “ticket” as it were….was all but assured if she played her cards right. And I think she KNEW she’d step down from the Governorship almost immediately. She knew she wasn’t cut out for that kind of scrutiny as a politician. But she also knew that she LIKED the power and adoration her “role” gave her. So…She “BECAME” the part.
By stepping away from politics, she was free to always be held in esteem by her base. She had her “in”. If any celebrity wannabe can get a book deal and reality show these days….SURELY the first Republican female vice presidential nominee could write her own ticket. And that is precisely what she intends to do.
Do I still think she’d be the scariest president in the world? LOL…YUP. Do I think she is stupid? Um….well….lets just put it this way….she’s smart enough to know that she would go down in history as a worse president than George Bush. She’s realized her limitations, and was smart enough to step down from being Governor.
She’s gonna be rich. And all she has to do is remain a personality without any of the pressure of politics and she’s got it made. She will never run out of loyal fans. She’s kinda like a Moose shooting female version of Howard Stern in that regard. Lol.
So no…she ain’t stupid. She’s crazy like a Fox…..Fox “News” that is.
I bet you any amount of money that by the end of next year Fox news announces the “SARAH PALIN Show”. Between now and then, she’ll write a book. Make some guest appearances while she is being CAREFULLY groomed and coached and advised. This is her shot and she’s gonna take it.
Blah, blah, blah. Who cares whether you personally agree with her or not? For that matter, many music fans detest Stern; but as stockholders, we should only care whether we attract and keep subscribers. The more variety, the better. Anyone who grabs attention could be a good thing. Personally, I can’t imagine ANYONE listening to Martha Stewart, but obviously, I have no idea what is interesting. Geez, Martha Stewart?! 😉
If she decides to run in 2012, it will confirm it…very stupid. And Rick, if she didn’t egg everyone on with all her “liberal media elite” and “we eat, therefore we hunt” b.s., she wouldn’t be such an easy target. She antagonizes and plays the victim card over and over.
By the way, I’m sure this has been said, but why would she do radio when it doesn’t take advantage of her number one asset: her pretty little mug.
As David McCullough and other historians have complained schools aren’t teaching history anymore, so it is I will preface with a little history.
The original Populist was William Jennings Bryan from Nebraska. Like Sarah Palin, he hit the political scene in a bolt.
At the 1896 Democrat convention, Bryan’s only task was to give the keynote speech. It, forever known as the “Cross of Gold” speech, was so dynamic the party forgot all about the candidates and nominated him for President, not once but three times.
Palin is a Populist like Bryan, rural, plain speaking, with fundamental values, and the ability to command attention from a very significant number of people. Also, like Bryan, I doubt she can ever be elected President.
Be that as it may, what I’m really concerned about is my SiriusXM investment. Her on satellite radio will be very good for her and SiriusXM.
I was surprised to find over the last few years that there are people who will not subscribe to Sirius because of Howard Stern. Sarah Palin might dilute that resistance.
The key thing to read here is that sirius xm provides an instant national platform, without the need for syndication.
Ironic that if Palin gets a show on Sirius/XM, its not even officially available to those in her state of Alaska. Alaska & Hawaii continue after years to be ignored by the satellite service, even tho Sirius applied for repeaters in both states 4 years ago!! Maybe with her on board the 49th and even 50th state might finally be recognized as part of the USA??
where has boo boo gone? siriusxm is at .47 today. i thought it was supposed to be going down in price according to the all knowing boo boo?!?!
“but, I for one would like to see her on satellite”
I agree entirely- which planet should we hope for?
GOD….somebody write a new article already. I can’t look at Sarah’s grinning face anymore. It’s getting annoying now. 🙂
hot isn’t she? 🙂
Nice hair & face but her legs & bum aren’t all that great…………
Mica Brezenski(sp) on “Morning Joe” is better looking all the way around. Lot of class too.
Speaking of looks & class, Faith Daniels(in her day) was hard to beat. Way finer than Palin……….
BTW,
SiriusFM ought to have “Morning Joe” on P.O.T.U.S. but the dickheaded programmers on SiriusFM can’t get their collective noses out of Greenstein’s butt long enough to get anything done.
Tyler ,
please oh please write something anything to get her off the front of this blog !!!
let me guess…..you voted for osama.
I DID NOT vote for Oboma (I voted 3rd party) and I still think her legs and rear aren’t anything to brag about.
Nice face with Hillary’s legs!!(just longer)
